24.01.2022 Sanne has sanded her lovely small bodied falcate braced classical she is crafting so well from an amazing figured crotch section of Qld maple with a sinker Western Red Cedar top and Pink Gidgee fretboard and bolt on bolt off raised fretboard. I can't wait to see it with finish on it, should be another stunner. Meanwhile Cath has done the first half of the bracing on her sinker Cedar top steel string guitar too.

22.01.2022 This week Sanne is carving her neck at home having finished the shaping and carbon for her top bracing, we think we have figured out how to make a raised fretboard on a bolt on bolt off neck and she has her sides and blocks all trimmed and ready to stick to the top. More of Brett's Blackwood top has disappeared and he has shaped his White Cedar body for the archtop build, put a headstock veneer on his red Cedar neck, cut out a queen ebony fretboard and scratchplate and will ...be relieving some weight in the body during the week. His dreadnaught build is coming together too; the sides and blocks are now in a perfect ten foot round shape and slotted with the six housed joints ready to accept the back and bracing next week when the humidity hopefully drops again and we can finally close the box. The neck now has a steamed back headstock veneer, he made lovely bindings and a tail garnish and has the neck heel join nicely fitiing and will have the rest of the neck shaped in a jiffy, the tap tones on the red Spruce top are lovely. These three builds are now getting to the exciting assembly stages and looking great. See more

17.01.2022 Sanne has her little classical well advanced now, the top and sides are together, back ready to join, the neck will have a raised fretboard and be bolt on bolt off, frets slotted, tuners on the way. The figured QLD Maple is really something to behold and the pink gidgee and cedar complement it wonderfully, another masterpiece in the making.

15.01.2022 Brett is getting ahead on several fronts having finished the Red Spruce top for his dreadnaught, roughed out a neck from torrefied Cambia Ash plus joined a bunch of red cedar for his electric body and neck blank. Meanwhile Sanne has got the rosette in and her falcate bracing started on the top of her second classical, joined the back with the marriage strip and scarf joined the neck. Luke dropped in to stick his bridge on and we got a last coat on Jabarra's guitar and strung it up. Wow, sounds amazing, just the nut and action to adjust a little now. Roz finished the kerfing on her side and prepared all her bracing for the sinker cedar top and Cath also got her bracing prepared and both made good progress on their necks and blocks. Even Charles has been busy assembling, so cool having so many builds nearing completion at once.

09.01.2022 Roz and Cath were back this week and keen to get further along having now completed their sides, morticed their heels for the brass insert to act as the nuts for the bolt on neck and have started shaping the necks in earnest. Their builds are coming along so well, hopefully the humidity will be kinder next week for gluing the top layers of carbon onto the top braces and getting it ready for gluing the sides, blocks, all to it all those bits is now ready for assembly. Meanwhile Brett has his ebony bindings bent (whew) and the inside surfaces sealed with shellack so we joined the back on and while that dried worked on his carved top electric

09.01.2022 First coats of laquer on Sanne's latest classical really brought out the figure in the QLD Maple. Meanwhile the other girls Cath and Roz stuck the sides top and blocks together.

08.01.2022 Ian has gotten to sizing up the next glueing phase where his wooden resonator becomes a box, something like his prized National steel guitar. Brett has two necks mostly done and has glued and then routed out his lovely blackwood archtop. Sanne has got her back on and also done her bindings and is busy sanding the body at home this week, she has prepared the bolt on bolt off neck a bit more.

07.01.2022 In another stellar days work the rest of the bracing for these two sinker Western Red Cedar tops was made, lots of woodchips flew carving down the top braces. Cath got the top layer of carbon down and the headstock veneer on while Roz cut the fret slots in her Zebrawood fretboard. Ian had a short sweet mission; get the resonator top and sides and blocks all glued together. Voila!

06.01.2022 Ian has started making the tone ring for his resonator from Cheesewood which is renowned for being nice to carve. Rocky joined his Maple top and Charles got the electric to be electric following some wiring and fiddling, just the setup to go. Sanne has gotten her bracing to the next stage for the falcate braced classical. Brett has roughed out the inside of his carved top electric body made from Red Cedar and made the neck blank.

04.01.2022 We were happy with the satin finish on Luke's Macassar Ebony steel string and the Casuarina fretboard polished up a treat so before long we had set it up and heard it ring for the first time, wow! The sinker Cedar falcate braced top works a treat, lively, full and woody with lots of volume, the characteristic warm but punchy tone of Western Red Cedar and a full 12 seconds of sustain, it is wonderful rewarding instrument to play. We made an armrest for his previous classical ...build too which has been played in a lot more now and sounds magnificent too. Meanwhile Ben has been busy, we attached his fretboard to his funky fibionacci Huon Pine and Blackheart Sassafrass classical cutaway and started making an armrest for that too. Brian got his maple top joined and spent more time tweaking his LP style electric and brought in a Mosrite type electric project he started at home and Rocky got into the carving of the maple top for his electric too. Brett made up the block mortice and drilled the neck tennon for the bolt on Red Cedar neck and before we knew it got his back sides and top joined for his black Wattle dreadnaught as well as tweaking the electric bild some more. Sanne braced her QLD Maple back and got the rest of the bracing stuck down on her falcate braced classical top and worked more on the figured QLD Maple neck so she could take it home and carve it, what a great week. 04.01.2022 I snapped these three pictures now Charles has got his guitar back from the markers as his year 12 major project and just as he had finished setting it up and had done the intonation, which was just before we plugged it into Brian's 50W JCM800 valve combo, for it's first run, yeah! The pop out tone controls split the coils so it has a great choice of tones and it is a beast. The body is camphor he found lying in the shed, the neck is Red Cedar and the fretboard is Pink Gidgee. He did a great job, a unique and very coolly sculpted high quality guitar, he did well.

02.01.2022 Brett has bindings on his blackwood and white cedar carved top hollow body electric, the Queen Ebony fretboard polished up well and the neck is glued in too and the headstock is now cut down to size. Who thinks it should have the pickguard? The dreadnaught he has also been building has it's fretboard glued down and the neck carved, the bridge shaped and ready to glue on, the body sealed and is almost sanded to finishing stage, just some fretwork to do. Both these guitars are shaping up really well and will look stunning with all that highly figured Tassie Blackwood. Ian has made some more progress on the resonator which is made of Blackwood (Acacia melanoxolyn) too.

01.01.2022 Stick week; both Seth and David were in the workshop working on their 10 and 12 string tapping instruments. We are keen to try out Lace Alumitones for the low magnetic pull and extended range and both builds are progressing well. Seth did two 9 hour sessions to sculpt his white cedar stick, put in the truss rod, glue on, polish and slot the fretboard, inlay the dots, and bash in the frets and bevel them as well as stick on a headstock veneer matching the Casuarina fretboard. He has taken it home to sand and sculpt some more. David has been working hard at his Macadamia wood blank with tapered laminations and has made a start on fretting his Hairy Oak fretboard. The monster deathbucker and x-bar 5 inch pickups look like they are placed right at home there.
