25.01.2022 One month on since the devastating #Beirut explosion, UNCIEF is working hard to restore safe drinking water and sanitation to children and families. Hundreds of water systems in buildings near the blast have been destroyed, affecting the water supply. UNICEF and partners are on the ground to: re-connect buildings to the water system install water tanks for affected families distribute hygiene and baby kits ... Without this critical necessity, the risk of water-borne diseases can skyrocket and protecting against #COVID19 remains difficult. We will continue to ensure families have access to safe water as they recover and rebuild.

24.01.2022 One month since the #Beruit explosions, children are longing to go back to school.

24.01.2022 While they don’t draw that much media attention, everyday activities like simply eating breakfast, exercising, or getting enough sleep can have some of the strongest benefits on adolescent’s mental wellbeing. 22.01.2022 Even flooding can’t stop this humanitarian worker from reaching children in need. When flood waters swept parts of South Sudan, UNICEF was on the ground to ensure children had access to clean water and sanitation. Here Joseph is offloading buckets to be used for water purification. Whether by boat, train or foot, we are there for children in times of crisis. #DeliverFutures #FearlessDeliveries

22.01.2022 What do you do when there is no school for your children to go to? You build one. #DeliverFutures

22.01.2022 Water is life. It sustains and revives us. But it’s not always as easy as turning on the tap. From humanitarian crises to drought, too many children are going without access to clean water. This October, we’re challenging you to join #WaterWalk and help raise funds to support children who spend too much of their time walking to collect water. Choose to walk 7km a day for 7 days, or 49km during the month. Help provide children with access to safe and clean water no matter where they are.

22.01.2022 Despite being one of the world’s most prosperous countries, Australia has some of the lowest mental wellbeing outcomes among young people compared to other high-income nations. We can see that even before the COVID-19 pandemic our strong economy wasn’t consistently translating into outcomes for children. We need to prioritise children and young people’s wellbeing, through a focus on early childhood education, mental health support and strong social protection, says UNICEF Australia Program and Advocacy Manager Juliet Attenborough. 21.01.2022 From worrying about the cost of food, to struggling to feed a child after a long day at work, parents everywhere face similar challenges. And when children’s diets are poor, they are robbed of the chance to meet their full potential. A new report by UNICEF and Western University Sydney titled ‘Feeding My Child’ listened to mothers around the world, including here in Australia, about their experiences providing their young children with healthy food. Only 16 per cent of children between six months and two years consumed food from at least five food groups daily, with mothers citing time and financial constraints as key barriers. 21.01.2022 Baby Tives was just a month old when Tropical Cyclone Harold hit his village in Vanuatu. When the risk of landslide threatened their family home, his mother Loretta fled with him in her arms. UNICEF and our partners are working tirelessly to help families rebuild their lives so that children like Tives can still grow up healthy and have a secure future.

20.01.2022 BREAKING: UNICEF will lead the procurement and supply of #COVID19 vaccines in the largest and fastest ever operation of its kind. Once a COVID-19 vaccine is available, UNICEF will work to ensure it reaches the most vulnerable people around the world. Every child, community and country deserve to benefit equitably when a successful vaccine is found, says Alice Hall, COVID-19 Vaccine Lead at UNICEF Australia. UNICEF is currently the largest buyer of vaccines in the world, ...helping to keep children healthy and safe from disease. Every year, we reach almost half of the world’s children with life-saving vaccines. UNICEF is working on behalf of the COVAX Facility, a global effort to ensure that no country is left without access to a future vaccine. The plan aims to provide at least 2 billion doses by the end of 2021. We are committed to ensuring access to affordable, quality-assured vaccines #ForEveryChild.

20.01.2022 I feel like the first time around it was definitely easier. I was super productive, and I didn't mind it too much, but I just think the content and learning everything again is very different online than it would be in person. As second wave lockdown restrictions were tightened in Victoria, many young people were unable to attend school in person. Dealing with the reality of disrupted learning has been a key issue for teenagers around the country. Our recent report, Swim...ming with Sandbags, has found that 55 per cent of teenagers in Australia say that they are now behind in their education, compared to where they were before the pandemic. This rises to 59 per cent in Melbourne. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3hPjtiL

20.01.2022 Someone looks happy and she should be! This little girl just got her birth certificate, in Accra, Ghana. You may not realise it, but your birth certificate is one of the most important things you own. Without birth registration, access to education, healthcare, and other essential health services can be limited in many countries. As countries face the additional pressures of COVID-19, UNICEF is working to make sure that no child is left out.

20.01.2022 This little one is receiving a vaccination at a healthcare centre in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The COVID-19 pandemic is placing significant strain on the Indonesian health system as workers and resources are diverted to support the response. Fear of contracting the virus and physical distancing is also leading some parents to defer routine immunisations. UNICEF is making sure women and children, like this little one, can still access essential vaccination services throughout... the pandemic. Globally, UNICEF is seeing an alarming decline in the number of children receiving life-saving vaccines, threatening to undo years of progress and risking children’s lives. We must ensure they continue to receive life-saving immunisations and medical care. #ForEveryChild #Health

20.01.2022 I wish the explosion never happened. Maybe when my teacher gets better, we will study together again, says Abdel, 10. Coming to the safety park helps with the team from UNICEF we play games and we learn some easy things together. Children like Abdel have had their lives turned upside down after the #Beruit explosion last month. Unable to return to his damaged school, Abdel now attends a child-friendly space to continue his learning. UNICEF is on the ground in Lebanon supporting the rebuilding of primary schools and replacement of furniture and equipment. Increased support is needed to ensure that all children can access education when the new school year starts later this month.

19.01.2022 Whilst we all wait for a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine to be announced, UNICEF is getting ready to deliver the vaccine to the world’s most remote communities. We’ve started negotiations with 350 airlines, freight operators and shipping lines to ensure that we can deliver this precious cargo to over 92 countries as soon as the vaccines become available. It’s all hands on deck as we get ready to deliver not only COVID-19 vaccine doses, but also syringes and personal prote...ctive equipment to protect front line workers around the globe. By protecting these workers, we are ultimately protecting the millions of children who depend on their critical services. #DeliverFutures #FearlessDeliveries

19.01.2022 It’s like you are in a swimming race, swimming with a corona-free person who has had the greatest year 12 experience. But I [have] all these bags of sand on my back trying to swim the same race. We surveyed over 1,200 young people across Australia to understand how the pandemic has impacted our youngest generations this is what they had to say.

19.01.2022 How far would you walk for water? Every day women and children around the world spend about 200 million hours collecting water. This journey can be dangerous and the jerry cans of water that children carry can be heavy. Often, there isn’t any time left in the day to attend school or play. That’s why UNICEF works to ensure every child has their rights to water and sanitation fulfilled. #ForEveryChild, water.

16.01.2022 Play can be the ultimate bonding experience for children and their parents. Now more than ever, children need support and care as we all navigate unprecedented times. Today we wish dads, granddads and carers everywhere a very happy Father’s Day! #earlymomentsmatter #UNICEFSuperDads #fatherhood #superdad #earlylearning #causes #giveback #FathersDay #Foreverychild #play

15.01.2022 COVID-19 isn't over for anyone until it's over for everyone. This is how UNICEF is working to stop the spread of coronavirus close to home.

15.01.2022 Through rivers, over mountains and across desserts, UNICEF works to reach every child. Here, local health workers are bringing vaccines through some seriously difficult terrain in Nepal. These life-saving vials will protect children from deadly diseases such as measles, rubella and polio. #FearlessDeliveries #DeliverFutures

15.01.2022 In Syria, brothers Ahmad, 7, and Saad, 5, help their mum carry the family’s new hygiene kit back to their tent in a camp for displaced persons. Children in Syria are facing the double threat of conflict and now #COVID19. UNICEF is supporting children and families in need, delivering 2,000 hygiene kits to displaced families living in rudimentary camps in northern rural Aleppo. Each kit contains soap, detergent, shampoo and dishwashing liquid. Our teams are also increasing ...water supply to the camps and holding awareness-raising sessions to help children and their families learn how they can protect themselves from COVID. #ForEveryChild #Saftey #Health #Peace

14.01.2022 We are doing everything we can to make sure Liya has a happy childhood. In Kazakhstan, Daniyar tries to spend every spare moment with his daughter. He describes himself as an involved dad", he knows her schedule, her interests, her favorite games and books by heart. 2020 has shown just how important carers are to their child’s development. This father’s day is a time to reflect on all the Super Dads around the world and the amazing work they do every day. #earlymomentsmatter #UNICEFSuperDads #fatherhood #superdad #earlylearning #causes #giveback #FathersDay #Foreverychild #play

14.01.2022 5 ways we’re working to stop COVID-19 and protect our neighbours. Providing soap and clean water to children across Asia and the Pacific. Finding innovative ways to keep health workers informed. In the Pacific Islands, UNICEF-supported radio programs are reaching remotely based medical staff with up-to-date information on COVID. ... Keeping children learning in ways that work for them from books to smartphones we’re finding new ways to deliver education while schools are closed. Going door-to-door in areas cut off from TV and internet to make sure families have accurate information. Delivering much need PPE supplies to protect frontline healthcare workers so they can keep caring for their patients.

14.01.2022 Stuck on what to get dad this Father's Day? Forget the normal socks or ties, give him something that will last a lifetime.

13.01.2022 The only way up these mountains is by donkeys and camels. For the first time in 10 years humanitarian workers have reached these children in Jebel Marra, Sudan. #DeliverFutures #FearlessDeliveries

12.01.2022 I miss school a lot because the math teacher brings us toys and we play all together with the blocks, says Fatme, 8, sitting at home with her books. It’s been one month since an explosion tore through #Beruit, damaging more than 160 schools and impacting tens of thousands of students. Unlike Fatme, many families whose homes were destroyed have been forced to relocate, leaving them without learning materials for their children. UNICEF is planning to distribute laptops and tablets and is finding innovative ways to ensure connectivity at home so children can continue learning safely whilst their schools are rebuilt.

11.01.2022 The economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have left millions of families unable to access or afford their regular supplies of nutritious food. This could leave a staggering 6.7 million more young children dangerously malnourished this year and the effects could last a lifetime - unless we act now. In Java, Indonesia, UNICEF is helping ensure women and children continue to have access to essential health and nutrition services as well as key information on COVID-19. #ForEveryChild #Health

11.01.2022 Food creates moments of joy and memories that last a lifetime. It’s also vital for physical and mental wellbeing, especially in young people. ‘Food and Me’, a new report by UNICEF and Western Sydney University surveying adolescents from 18 countries, found that parents and families are the biggest influence on young people’s daily food choices. Yet, in Australia only 50 per cent of adolescents ate one meal a day with their family. Despite these obstacles, young people see healthy eating as a priority and essential to their growth. 11.01.2022 Yop is finally able to attend school, easily. The nine-year-old used to climb hills and cross creeks to reach school, made even more difficult by a physical disability. Today, he attends an UNICEF-supported early childhood development centre near his home in Papua New Guinea (PNG). All my children don’t know how to read or write so I want my grandson to be educated, says his grandmother Gangena, happy to see him in school. In PNG, children have low enrolment and complet...ion rates for primary school. For children with disabilities, education is even further out of reach due to negative attitudes, lack of resources and inaccessibility. That’s why UNICEF supports inclusive early childhood centres in PNG, so all children have the chance to succeed in life. #BetterWorldForAll #DeliverFutures This project is supported by generous Australian donors and the Australian NGO Corporation Program (#ANCP).

10.01.2022 It is hard to get my child to eat [healthy food]. Like, he won’t eat fruit... basically I do what they like to eat. Ask parents about the biggest challenges of raising children and most will mention food. Two new reports from UNICEF and Western Sydney University show that mothers, their babies and adolescents around the world including here in Australia struggle to access the healthy food and nutrition they need. In their own words they told us about their experiences. Learn more

09.01.2022 I was away from home, away from my children. My first and only thought was that my children must have been killed. I ran home as fast as I could. I felt my feet moving, but it was as if I was going nowhere.

09.01.2022 When you wake up, Aysha’s already left home to start her walk across barren land. This is a day in her life.

09.01.2022 Oh hello there. One-year-old Mekdes is back home, safe and well with Mum and Dad in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She spent the past month and a half in hospital recovering from measles. A highly contagious disease, measles can be deadly in young children. Thankfully, little Mekdes is now doing well. A community health worker noticed Mekdes was unwell during door-to-door testing for COVID-19 and referred her to medical care. Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in Ethiopia UNICEF has been providing medical supplies and equipment, supplying water to isolation, treatment and quarantine centres, and raising public awareness through risk communication and community engagement.

08.01.2022 Sali is practicing Kangaroo Mother Care with her 10-day-old niece, at a hospital in the North of Côte d'Ivoire. Sali’s sister-in-law sadly passed away giving birth to triplets. Now, Sali and her sisters plan to take care of the three little girls. Kangaroo Mother Care helps keep premature babies, like this little one, warm when incubators are not available or in short supply. It also regulates baby’s heart rate, breathing, and helps start a long-lasting relationship between baby and carer.

07.01.2022 A fire at Moria refugee camp on the Island of Lesvos, Greece yesterday has left 4,000 children without shelter. UNICEF is deploying emergency response staff to assist partners on the ground. The safety of vulnerable children is our first priority. So far, UNICEF has set up an emergency shelter for children, where 300 unaccompanied minors are now staying. We remain ready to fully support the Greek authorities.

07.01.2022 Each morning Abdulmouin tends to his colourful balcony garden, an important part of his routine during the COVID-19 restrictions. I love all the plants I grow equally. If a plant is not loved, it never sprouts, he says. Born with skeletal deformations, Abdulmouin, 16, has spent most of his time at home, long before lockdowns. When his family was displaced by war in Syria, he was forced to drop out of school. Children living with disabilities are less likely to attend sch...ool due to negative attitudes or a lack of resources. That’s why UNICEF advocates for accessible and inclusive learning spaces to ensure children like Abdulmouin are not missing out. For Abdulmouin, gardening is a school in itself. It takes immense patience to grow a plant and keep it healthy, he says. What have you learnt during lockdown? #BetterWorldForAll

07.01.2022 I will wash my hands more often and carefully. I don’t want anyone in my family to be sick because of me. Asia, 7, is learning the correct way to wash her hands to prevent the spread of #COVID19. In a country already hit by conflict, Yemen is facing an emergency within an emergency. UNICEF is working to ensure children like Asia have access to safe water vital to help stop the spread of disease. In August, UNICEF delivered 81.7 tons of medical supplies to allow frontline health works to continue their life-saving work.

06.01.2022 Here’s something to smile about: Deandra and Chloe are heading back to school in Vanuatu. In April, Tropical Cyclone Harold hit our neighbours across the Pacific hard, forcing families to flee landslides, leaving many without access to clean water and destroying homes and schools. UNICEF helps families prepare for emergencies. We act quickly when disaster strikes and we work hand in hand with communities and governments for long-term recovery. In Vanuatu, we’re on the ground reaching children with the tents, books and supplies they need to return to school and continue learning.

06.01.2022 This is my son Mohammad and he just turned one. Every time I see him he has grown more! Little by little, he has started walking, laughing and playing with me Mohammad’s father, Shaheen, has watched with fascination at how fast his son is growing and the amazing ways his brain has developed in twelve months. In early moments, play is vital to the development of a child’s brain. 06.01.2022 This sweet little girl might not look too impressed but the smile on her mother’s face says it all: vaccines keep children safe from preventable disease and give parents one less worry! She is one of more than a million children in Papua New Guinea who were vaccinated against measles, rubella and polio last year. But now COVID-19 threatens to halt this hard-won progress due to movement restrictions and lack of protective equipment. In a country with already low immunisatio...n rates, the life-saving work of running vaccination campaigns must not stop. That’s why H&M has partnered with UNICEF Australia to support life-saving vaccinations for children in PNG. From today, you can make a $2 donation with your purchase to help protect children from debilitating and deadly disease. Together we can build a healthy future #ForEveryChild.

05.01.2022 What are these friends smiling about? Water! Mataram and Falmata, both eight, are collecting water from a pump installed by UNICEF at their camp in Niger. Before that, clean water was only possible thanks to water trucking. More than 2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe, readily available water at home. Improving families’ access to safe drinking water is a key part of UNICEF’s efforts. While we have made great strides, too many children are missing out on this ...basic human right. 05.01.2022 What I love about my work is seeing a child who used to be stunted but has now improved. It makes me really happy. Meet Paul, a health worker in the Solomon Islands who travels up to three hours by boat to educate mothers about nutrition. #DeliverFutures #FearlessDeliveries

03.01.2022 We’re so proud to join with educators, researchers, health professionals, parents, community organisations, and economists from across Australia calling for universally accessible early education as part of the Thrive By Five campaign, an initiative of the Minderoo Foundation. We know that education in the early years is vital for young children’s development. A universally accessible system will also enable more parents to re-enter the workforce and remove the financial barriers for women taking on full-time work. For every child, a fair chance.

01.01.2022 Exhausted, confused and a long way from home. This girl has fled with thousands of others from brutal violence in Tigray, #Ethiopia to a refugee camp in Sudan. Almost half are children and the majority have arrived with nothing. On arrival, families face overcrowded camps amidst a COVID-19 pandemic. UNICEF is on the ground, working to reach refugee children with safe water, nutrition and psychological support. Newly arrived children are also being vaccinated if needed to protect them from deadly disease. More than anything, the children of Tigray need peace.
