13.01.2022 Weekend Report 2nd Grade continue their winning streak against there division teams bowling Barron out for 86, getting the win in the 24th over with 4 wickets remaining securing them a bonus point too. Tajinder Singh with another strong performance taking 3/31 from his 8 overs and adding a solid 32 with the bat. Hamish Wright (2/9) and James Belczacki (2/9) both finished with 2 wickets. Kaleb Eaton finished with 15* helping steer the team to a win. The bonus point helps the...m move to equal top of the ladder. 3rd Grade also walked away from the weekend with a bonus point win against Barron. Batting first they put up their highest score of the season 6/194. A strong opening partnership from Steve Lindsay (30* retired) and Jason Hardwick (28) was followed by an action-packed middle order 50 from Dibas Bhandari (52*). As usual the strong bowling team were able to secure the win bowling Barron out for 113. Dibas Bhandari (3/21), Ganesh Chhetri (2/8) and Bishal Tamang (2/29) leading the way with the ball. Special mention the Life Member Rob Cuda taking a wicket with his first ball of the season. Jimmy Mahar Cup Gold came away with a 7 wicket win against Mulgrave. With some great bowling and fielding they kept Mulgrave to 8/98. Myles Howard was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/11, with Steele Gadd (2/9), Kaleb Eaton (2/15) and Hamish Wright (1/11) all getting in on the action. Finishing with 3/136 Hamish Wright top scored with 43 with Scotty Naess (30*), Aidan Firman (23) and Josh Welsford (15) all chipping in with solid scores. Jimmy Mahar Cup Blue Tully Mission were too good for the Combined Norths Cricket Cairns and United Team, winning by 7 wickets. Jaden Bakurski top scored for the team with 20 and Kalan Wilson (1/30) and Curtis Wright (1/31) both taking wickets. James Hopes Cup United came away with a 44 run win in their best game of the season to date. Posting a score of 173 with Xavier Curtin (45*), Dane Salerno (27) and Matt Williams (25) all chipping in big. And in the field, they restricted Mulgrave to 129 with Dane Salerno (4/15), Ashton Salerno (2/5), Dean Madsen (1/12) and Noah (1/14) taking the wickets. The Brendan Nash United Girls only had 4 regulars, but Norths girls loaned us 2 to get the game in. Everyone put in 110%. Was great to watch them play. Definitely improving skills. 01.01.2022 Weekend Report 2nd Grade got the win over Mareeba. Great effort by the team, especially with a young squad of 6 under 18's, this shows what great talent we have coming through. Toss proved crucial as wicket was very sticky and green. James B (3/21), Taj (3/16), Navjot (2/25) and Kaleb (1/13) all bowled well to the conditions with only their tail adding any runs as the wicket hardened. James B batted well for 24, Kaleb made a crucial 35 and Ben Harrison (20 no on debut) as... our middle order did all but win the game but losing 3/12 in final few overs made the finish tighter than it should have been. We eventually won with 2 balls to go. Catching was the difference as we held almost all of ours, they dropped 5 or 6 very easy catches including the winning run. An wonderful performance from Shameer Fonseka was not enough for 3rd Grade to get the win against Mulgrave. Shameer, in his first game of the year, took 5/14 with the bowl and made a solid 32 opening with the bat. This weekend saw the start of the Jimmy Maher Cup with the Combined Norths Cricket Cairns and United Team starting with an 8 wicket win. There was a great batting performance by both Kaleb Eaton (63 retired no.) and Joseph Glover (48) to help get them get the win. Great win to 2nds and JM Cup Gold and bad luck to 3rds. P.S. There no senior cricket this weekend but the Brendan Nash and James Hopes Cups start on Saturday morning and don't forget to comedown to our 2019/2020 Presentation Afternoon this Sunday!
