25.01.2022 SW Len took Brennan to Konalilla Falls, just outside Monville on the Sunshine Coast, QLD. Brennan did extremely well walking a 6km track (3 hours), from the top down into a rainforest valley. The Skene Creek cascades down 80 metres into the jungle valley setting with spectacular waterfalls. It was hard work to get back up the steep steps, but they got to experience the spectacular views and Brennan was very pleased with these efforts. The Kondalilla Falls circuit includes more than 300 steps! Len enjoys working with the people we support, taking them out to new places -both close to home and far away, as everyone deserves to be given different experiences. Great work guys
25.01.2022 Yasmin from South of Brisbane, has created this fabulous drawing for SL Mick. He is so happy to be making connections with the people we support. Thanks for sharing.
25.01.2022 Support Worker of the Month is Edward Opue from Gold Coast. Nominated by his team, this is what they had to say. Edward is the most consistent, calm headed, thoughtful and socially conscious Support Worker. His contributions include assisting the residents in keeping impeccable hygiene standards, e.g the rooms are always clean and tidy when he has finished a shift. Availability and reliability for shifts and tasks, e.g. Edward says "Wherever you need me to work, I'm a sol...dier". Forethought as to where the team may need help e.g. contributes to meetings with ideas and possible solutions to issues, not just problems. Calm and conscious attitude towards conflict resolution, e.g. Listens to residents and empathises to get the whole picture before offering any advice or help. Doing the work within the everyday routines makes all the difference to the people he supports. Edward is to be congratulated on his consistent hard work, high standards and quality of care for the people he supports. When SL Scott told Edward we are recognising him this month, he was quite humble and embarrassed, but very appreciative of being Support Worker of the Month. Edward mentioned that we wouldn't be an outstanding Support Worker if it wasn't for the fantastic team around him. Congratulations, we appreciate your hard work. #weareudc
24.01.2022 Todd lives North of Brisbane and has recently joined a local fishing group called Able Anglers. Each week the group meets at a local fishing spot to throw out a line and have a chat. Todd is hoping to catch a fish soon so we can support him to cook it up at home. We like to remind Todd that it's called 'fishing', not 'catching' because it always brings a smile to his face. 06.01.2022 Hi, I’m Nina Wittlings and I look after Operations at United Disability Care. I’m based at our head office in Robina on the beautiful Gold Coast and have been with the organisation for 2 years now. I started in the Intake team and helped transition people onto the NDIS in late 2018 and early 2019, ensuring funding and service agreements are in place according to the new NDIS guidelines. From mid-last year, I started researching SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) and s...lipped into the role of helping people achieve SDA funding in their NDIS plans and working hand in hand with their Support Coordinators and families to realise people’s dream of living independently in an accessible home. What a joy to see people being able to move into their new homes that works best for them! Since January this year I have taken on the role of Operations Manager which involves all new business development, looking after new enquiries and helping people transition into United Disability Care. In Operations we also look after over 40 properties in QLD, NSW and SA and ensure they are well maintained, so people feel comfortable in their homes. We also work closely with housing providers to find people appropriate accommodation options including SDA. I do love working for United Disability Care and being a part of enabling people we support to love their lives and live their dreams.
