22.01.2022 Your child may be missing more than just their friends during this COVID-19 lockdown! If your child is in highschool, or aged 12-19, they may be missing out on their vaccinations. These are usually given in school, but your GP also provides them. They are supplied by the government and come at no cost to you. Highschool students in Victoria are given 3 vaccinations. 1. Children between 12-14 years of age (or Year 7) need a Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis booster. They wo...uld have been given these vaccinations as three year olds, but they need top-ups every 10 years. 2. Children above 12 years of age need Gardasil vaccinations to minimise their risk of acquiring HPV, a virus which causes cervical cancer. HPV has also been implicated in other cancers, including throat cancers. The Gardasil vaccination is for both girls and boys. 3. Children between 15-19 years of age (or Year 10) need a Meningococcal ACWY vaccine, as people between 15-24 are at increased risk of acquiring Meningococcus. See our GP today to discuss and get vaccinated now.

21.01.2022 COVID-19 and hay fever share some similar symptoms. This means it may be difficult to tell the difference between them. If you have any COVID-19 symptoms (even if you suspect it’s just your first allergy attack of the season), get tested immediately for COVID-19. If the test result is negative and symptoms persist, talk to your GP about a management plan during the COVID-19 pandemic. ... https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//frequently-asked-questions.

18.01.2022 Are you suffering from chronic pain? If you have suffered from muscle damage before, or long-term exertion which has given you low back pain, and various types of joint muscle pain, migraine, sciatica etc., we understand the adverse effect the pain has caused to your work, family and social life. In Australia, there are the few types of health practitioners who can help you treat the problem: 1.) Physiotherapists, 2.) Chiropractor and 3.) Osteopath. Many people do not know w...hat these treatments are focusing on, so before seeking treatment, it is best to discuss the problems you are experiencing with your family doctor first. She/he will guide you to help you find the most suitable therapist . Physiotherapists focus on the treatment of impaired bodily functions, post-ops, or physical disability. Physiotherapists use massages, exercises, stretching exercises and hands-on procedures to treat pain or dysfunction to improve your current condition. According to the standards of the Australian Physiotherapy Association, physiotherapists can help with the following aspects: muscle and joint rigidity and pain, postoperative recovery, nervous system disorders, menopause assistance, etc. Chiropractors focus on the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal problems throughout the body by manipulating and adjusting the spine manually. They help patients treat or manage back pain, neck pain, headache and arthritis. Osteopaths focus on caring for the health of the whole body, not just focus on the injured or affected part, but also pay attention to the patients’ bones, joints, muscles, nerves, blood circulation system, connective tissues, and visceral function. You can find an osteopath to treat back pain, headache, sports injuries or digestive problems. Osteopaths help you balance the various systems of the body through painless massage and contact therapy. Before receiving any treatment, you can always ask your GP to make a treatment plan for you, which will help you get five free consultations per year. Your GP will also help you to arrange an X-rays or any other scans needed. We are here to help you find an effective way to relieve the pain.

09.01.2022 What is anaemia? Anaemia is a deficiency in the number of red blood cells. Red blood cells contain haemoglobin, which carry oxygen from the lungs and transport them throughout the whole body. When the number of red blood cells drops, the blood cannot carry enough oxygen. Symptoms of anaemia are caused by insufficient oxygen supply, including unexplained fatigue, chest tightness, shortness of breath, dizziness, paleness, etc. [Cause] One of the most common causes is iron defic...iency. Iron is one of the most important nutrients for red blood cell production. If the body is lack of iron, it will not generate enough red blood cells. Blood loss is another common cause of iron deficiency in adults. For men and postmenopausal women, iron deficiency usually indicates gastrointestinal bleeding. For premenopausal women, menstrual bleeding is the most common cause of iron deficiency. For infants, young children, adolescent females, and pregnant women, iron deficiency can also be caused by insufficient iron intake in normal diet. Many patients with iron deficiency anemia have pica (an eating disorder in which a person eats things not usually considered food.) People with pica are eager to digest something, and the most common thing is ice, but sometimes it can be non-food as well, such as dirt, clay and etc. [Diagnosis] A blood test can usually find out if you are iron deficient. [How to treat? ] Since excessive bleeding is the most common cause of iron deficiency, the first step is to determine the source of bleeding and to stop the bleeding. Normal dietary iron intake usually does not quickly bring iron level back to normal. Therefore, people with iron loss must take iron supplement Oral intake of iron is usually required. However, iron can darken or blacken stools and often cause constipation. In addition, it takes at least 6 months to slowly restore the iron level. Therefore, if a large amount of iron is required or the patient cannot tolerate oral iron intake, iron can be given via an infusion. The blood needs to be checked regularly to determine whether iron supplementation is adequate or not. If you experience any of the symptoms above, or want to know your current health level, please contact the United Medical Center Waverley at any time. Our doctors have abundant experience in giving iron infusion. The United Medical Center Waverley is also one of the few clinics in Melbourne that can do iron infusion. 02.01.2022 Pancreatic cancer: Unfortunately, there is no screening test to achieve early treatment. Since this cancer is hidden in the onset, most of the cases are already in their middle or late stage at the time of diagnosis, resulting in only 6 months from the onset to the end of life. Therefore, it is vital to tell you some important facts about this cancer. Prostate cancer: If you have a first-degree relative who has had diagnosed with prostate cancer before the age of 65; or if ...a first-degree relative who has had diagnosed with breast cancer, then you are considered as a high-risk group of having prostate cancer and you should find a time to visit us, and to learn how to protect your own prostate. Ovarian cancer: This is another cancer that has hidden onset and is often already metastatic when discovered. If you have a first-degree relative who has had diagnosed with ovarian cancer; or if you do not have a first-degree relative, but more than one relative in the family has had diagnosed with ovarian cancer, then you are considered as a high-risk group. Please come to us and to learn how to protect yourself. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are also atypical, so if you have abdominal distension, lower abdomen swelling, loss of appetite, nausea, weight loss but your belly is bloated, you should visit a doctor. Testicular cancer: If you have ever had cryptorchidism (absence of one or both testes from the scrotum) or have undergone orchiopexy (testicular fixation), or have testicular atrophy, or have a family member diagnosed with testicular cancer, then you are considered as a high-risk group and you should find a time to consult with a doctor and learn how to protect yourself. In addition, if you can feel the lumps around your testes, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. Skin cancer: If you work outdoors all year round or like outdoor sports; if you have been exposed to a lot of radiation; if you have a lot of ‘moles’ on your skin; or if your family has been diagnosed with skin cancer, then you are in a high-risk group. In this case, we would recommend you to perform a full body skin examination every 6 to 12 months. If any existing ‘moles’ have become itchy, painful, enlarged or changed in shape recently, or bleed easily when touched, these are the signs that are reminding you that you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. We are always here to help you.

02.01.2022 Smoking and quitting smoking are a common topic. However, as long as one person is still smoking, we as doctors will continue to bring this topic up, because smoking is really has no good but harm. Smoking leads to a rapid increase in the chance of developing cardiovascular diseases (myocardial infarction) and stroke; patients with chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and lung cancer all have a history of smoking. Smoking is also associated with many types of cancers, including ...lung cancer, throat cancer, oesophageal cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, cervical cancer, leukaemia and etc.). The number of disadvantages regarding smoking is countless, which includes affecting the baby’s development and health during pregnancy, causing oral and dental problems, inducing diabetes and osteoporosis etc. Since smoking is such a negative thing, why are there so many people who failed to quit smoking? Studies have found that some people can successfully quit smoking through strong self-will, but most people cannot due to the following reasons: 1. ) Some people may be suffering by depression or illness, which can cause a lot of stress in their lives. Smoking acts like a tool they use to relieve stress. Therefore, in order to quit smoking, these deep-seated problems must be solved at the same time. 2. ) Tobacco and alcohol have never been separated. Some people still have the problem of over-drinking alcohol. For the same reason, we will help you to quit smoking and also find a way to solve the problem of over-drinking alcohol. 3. )Some people may have become dependent on nicotine in the cigarette, and it is impossible to quit smoking by themselves. 4. ) Smoking may has already become a habit and part of some people’s live, as if most Australians are accustomed to drinking 5-6 cups of coffee every day. If you feel that any of the reasons above is related to your inability to quit smoking successfully, then the good news is that there are drugs to help quit smoking. We know how to use drugs along with psychotherapeutic counseling to tackle the issue. Let us quit smoking! Don't hesitate anymore, and it’s time to act!
