25.01.2022 sometimes I wonder if Mary breastfed Jesus. if she cried out when he bit her or if she sobbed when he would not latch.... and sometimes I wonder if this is all too vulgar to ask in a church full of men without milk stains on their shirts or coconut oil on their breasts preaching from pulpits off limits to the Mother of God. but then i think of feeding Jesus, birthing Jesus, the expulsion of blood and smell of sweat, the salt of a mothers tears onto the soft head of the Salt of the Earth, feeling lonely and tired hungry annoyed overwhelmed loving and i think, if the vulgarity of birth is not honestly preached by men who carry power but not burden, who carry privilege but not labor, who carry authority but not submission, then it should not be preached at all. because the real scandal of the Birth of God lies in the cracked nipples of a 14 year old and not in the sermons of ministers who say women are too delicate to lead. #poemsfortheresistance #advent

18.01.2022 In what is meant to be a season of hope, joy and togetherness, Love Makes A Way stands in solidarity with these people who continue to be detained or cut off fr...om the Australian community this Christmas, singing and praying for their safety and freedom. This season marks the 7th Christmas in arbitrary detention for many who have been held in offshore processing in Papua New Guinea and Nauru, and the 10th Christmas in detention for some who are held in Australia. These people continue to exist in limbo with no idea of their future, and basic needs such as healthcare often remaining unmet. Whats more, since 2013, there have been 32 known asylum seeker deaths (in Australia and in, or associated with, offshore detention) including 23 by known or suspected suicide. This Christmas we call for love to make a way, and justice and kindness be done for refugees. #LoveMakesAWay #Carols4Compassion #Refugees #Manus #Nauru #Australia

08.01.2022 At Ascot Vale uniting Church we have a few special Christmas events and services. - This Thursday we will be having a Blue Christmas service at 7.30 pm at the church. It is a quiet reflective space especially for those who may struggle with the Christmas period. - Saturday December 21st at 6pm, we will be having Christmas pageant which will include carol singing and which will be followed by a Christmas meal. you are invited to bring some Christmassy food to share and come pr...epared for a fun performance of the Christmas story. (bring some Christmas dress-ups if you have any - - tea towels acceptable). - Sunday December 22nd, we will be having our normal Sunday service at 10am but you are also invited to support Carols for Compassion. (see below for details) - Christmas Day Celebration service is at 9 am. it will be a family service with lots of carols. - Christmas Day at 6 pm there will be a shared Christmas meal at the church. Everyone welcome to come and share with the church family. Bring something to share if you are able.
