14.01.2022 Our theme for Christmas in 2020 was released todayA thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices. This is an excerpt from O Holy Night, but has never been more timely than it is today. We know that this year has been draining and that many across the church are tired. However, the Christmas season, and the birth of the Jesus Christ, provides an opportunity for celebration, not just within the Uniting Church but within our communities. Christmas resources will be available in next week’s Uniting News. COVID-19 should not be a deterrent for any congregation to organise a Christmas event. However, please make sure a safety management plan has been completed and that you have organised necessary ticketing and contact tracing requirements. Should you require further support, please contact a member of the Synod COVID-19 team.

12.01.2022 Warwick Uniting Church recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. Since the St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church opened on 22 November 1870, the congregation has moved buildings and withstood natural disasters, continuing to thrive and provide vital services to the community.

11.01.2022 To commemorate the strength, resilience and innovation that we have all shown during 2020, Wesley Mission Queensland's residents, clients and staff created a very special memorialthe gratitude wall and a time capsule. The gratitude wall is made up of rocks painted on by clients and staff about what they were grateful for. In the time capsule there were lots of beautiful memories including poems from Wheller on the Park Retirement Village (Chermside) residents expressing thei...r feelings towards this year and the pandemic. This memorial is an important reminder that despite this year being challenging with the impacts of the pandemic, we can still be grateful for many things.

08.01.2022 Volunteering is something most people think of doing from time to time. But in many instances, the time and effort required to find an organisation with a suitable opportunity means that volunteering gets thrown into the too hard basket. But FreddyMatch, an online platform launched this month, aims to remove this obstacle by matching organisations and volunteers based on their unique interests, skill sets, location and availability.

06.01.2022 #RemembranceDay Loving God, we give thanks for the women and men who have answered the call to serve their nation in the defence forces in the past. We give thanks for those who serve today. At this time may we remember the past sacrifices that have been made and the current sacrifices that are being made by these people. May we never take peace and security for granted. We pray for the silencing of weapons and the cessation of all forms of harm and abuse. In the name of the prince of peace we pray. Amen. Rev John Ruhle
