I’ve heard some crazy reasons why you haven’t started at a gym .. my all time favourite being, I’m not strong or fit enough yet .. whaaaaaat!???? How are you rectifying this if not in a gym? 16.01.2022 When you become a member at UnitVIII you will have the opportunity to go through a fundamentals class. . . It’s a very small class where the fundamental movements, deadlift, squat and press are broken down and shown why and how to perform them optimally and safely. .... . The first goal is for us to give you the knowledge and confidence to attend a class and not be nervous or intimidated by the movements, whilst having a new understanding of the importance of learning to move well before how fast or how heavy you can move. . . Fundamentals is the opportunity for members to strip down movements with a coach and learn how to move safely and effectively. .... . The feedback from these classes always shows that new members believed they were already moving well but didn’t realise how much was actually involved in moving effectively and safely through a squat, deadlift and a press. . . Members leave feeling more confident in their abilities and lose the fear of the unknown about coming to classes. . . We are still offering a fundamentals with every new membership. Having learnt the snatch/ clean/ split jerk over the past few weeks from higher hang positions last night they performed their first snatches from the floor and did so superbly. .... . 04.01.2022 RU OK? . I’ve sat here and read other people posts regarding RU OK? day. Comparing their messages to what message I would like to share, but the truth is when it comes to mental health, there is nothing to compare. There is not one experience that is exactly the same. There is not ‘one size fits all’ . Mental health doesn’t have a ‘type’, it doesn’t have a preference. ... . There’s no doubt 2020 has been a roller coaster of a year and it’s not even done. A year of turmoil, unexpected events and high stress. This has had a huge impact on a number of people and their mental health. There’s no doubt everyone has their struggles and it’s all relevant to that person. . So never compare yourself to anyone else and never compare what’s going on inside your head to anyone else’s . . Some people like to chat, others don’t, some will share their personal journey on social media and some cant even talk to their loved ones. Some people will get help and others will try to fight it alone. There is no right answer. . So what can we do? We can do more. Check in with those you love and care for. Don’t only only ask, RU OK? But ask them for coffee, a chat, a walk, share your thoughts and ask them theirs. Invite them for dinner, give them a smile, a wave, buy them that chocolate they love. Remind them they are someone special to you. Laugh, cry, sing, dance, scream, shout, Do a knarly workout! Do whatever you need to do to get through those dark days. . 03.01.2022 This incredible lady, Leeane is 52 years young!! . . She started with us because she had educated herself on the benefits of lifting weights and how it can prevent or even reverse ageing. .... . Leeane couldn’t do a body weight squat a couple of months ago without rounding at the back and collapsing her chest. This is her now performing an Over Head Squat which takes an incredible amount of balance, strength, stability, mobility and coordination. . . She’s worked hard for this and continues to do so. . . Never let age stop you learning new things and stop letting weights intimidate you however old you are. . .
