20.01.2022 Difficulties with social communication is a hallmark trait of children on the Autism Spectrum. These challenges can also be experienced by children with other diagnoses including Developmental Language Disorder, global developmental delay, anxiety or general learning difficulties. Even neurotypical children (and adults!) can have trouble navigating the unwritten 'rules' of social interactions. This is a great little article on the importance of encouraging the development of these skills in our kids from an early age. https://www.abc.net.au//helping-your-child-be-a-g/12034688

20.01.2022 We understand that COVID-19 is causing a great deal of uncertainty at the moment within our community, across the country, and around the world. We’ve recently been in touch with all our clients to let them know about additional measures we’ve implemented to keep the clinic as clean and hygienic as possible. We’re taking things a step further and have started the process to transition most of our clients to therapy via telehealth. ... In a nutshell, telehealth is therapy delivered over the internet via video link. It’s evidence-based and allows clients to receive therapy without the need to come into the clinic. We’re doing our part to #flattenthecurve and curb the spread of COVID-19! We’re confident that we can pull through this crisis together if we all do our part. Stay safe!

In recent years, we’ve seen a decrease in the number of publicly available allied health services and an increas...e in private providers. The result is often a disconnect between the various professional disciplines. We’re committed to strengthening our professional networks and building our skills through ongoing collaboration to best serve you and your family.

04.01.2022 23-29 August is Speech Pathology Week! There are 1.2 million Australians living with a communication disability. Communication disability can take many forms and is often invisible to others. ... Speechies work hard to raise awareness in the community around communication disability. We aim to provide strategies to help affected people and their families to make the most out of life. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has established that 1.2 million Australians have a communication disability. Communication disability affects a person's ability to understand and be understood by others. Levels of limitation range from mild to profound and can be temporary or last a lifetime. Children and older people make up the majority of people with communication disability. Children are more likely to have profound/severe communication disability than older people. People with communication disability were less likely to have a non-school qualification (42%) than people without communication disability (61%). Thirty-eight percent of people with communication disability are participating in the labour force compared with 80% of people without communication disability. One in 7 people with communication disability need formal assistance with communication. Half of all people who need formal assistance with communication have an unmet need for this assistance. Three in 5 people who have an unmet need for formal assistance with communication were children. For information about Speech Pathology Week visit www.speechpathologyaustralia.org.au/week
