24.01.2022 Catch the DANCE RITES festival on now until the 14th, courtesy of our friends at @sydneyoperahouse and an amazing lineup of performers... and you might glimpse TaPS student Akala Newman and @gawura_cultural_connection performing tonight, 8pm! This year DANCE RITES will be online at: https://www.YouTube.com/liveatthehouse Rhoda Roberts, AO says, "Welcome to DANCE RITES 2020 from across Australia as we acknowledge the diverse ancestral lands, waterways and Sky country. Through... our ancient ancestral narrative, the Sydney Opera House is dedicated to creating a visibility and First Nations space that fosters a new forward thinking through a 21st century voice that is authentic and true. This year has seen many challenges but through the changes we have all experienced in our daily lives, many opportunities have arisen. First Nations communities are among the most vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have decided to continue the competition through our digital platforms whilst still ensuring there was a meaningful interaction between the registered groups as well as you, the audience." 24.01.2022 From the Rex... welcome back into the studio Deborah Pollard and team! Deb writes: ‘I Can’t Save You’ is an Intermedial performance that explores the construction and selling of truth pertaining to Climate Change. As celebrities conflate their Oscar winning speeches with calls to action and collapsing icebergs are rendered in breath taking slow motion, does this actually achieve anything? Has Climate Change itself been coopted into our neo-liberal world, leaving us as passive observers gripping tightly to our ‘keep cups’ and recycle bins in the hope that small gestures will somehow contribute to change, but not to much change?
