22.01.2022 The Business School’s first Leading in a Post-COVID World (LPC) program wrapped up earlier this week with the Business Not As Usual Forum, where student teams pitched their solutions for local and global challenges to a panel of industry leaders. First place went to Harrison Adkin, Rachel Park, Charley Du and Bright Shi for their solution to address the affordability and quality of housing in NSW. I liked the idea of shifting the burden of responsibility away from the vulner...able and towards landlords, said industry judge Janelle McMaster. The integration of tech and recognition of what role tech can play is key. The LPC Forum marked the culmination of a series of masterclasses with expert speakers and experiential workshops aimed at empowering students to collaborate in order to solve critical problems. The masterclasses were just amazing to give us a more rounded understanding of the business world, said winning team member Harrison Adkin. The thing that resonated with me was thinking about the wicked problems that our generation is going to face and how coronavirus has compounded those wicked problems. The winning teams will now attend a round table with Professor Greg Whitwell, Dean of the Business School, along with LPC program leaders Associate Professors Juliette Overland and Peter Bryant, and a virtual catch-up with a masterclass leader of their choice. Congratulations to all LPC participants and thanks to our masterclass leaders Milo-Arne Wilkinson, Bernard Salt AM, Chris Riddell and Jamie Fitzgerald, and to forum judges Professor Richard Miles, Kelly McJannett, Jenelle McMaster and Jason Hosking. 07.01.2022 Most case competitions revolve around multinational for-profit corporations, but the second University of Sydney Business School Case Competition, which took place over the weekend, took a more community-focused approach. Organised by the Sydney Consulting Club, the competition saw five teams from universities across Australia and New Zealand compete virtually to write a case addressing how youth mental health non-profit headspace could rapidly improve their services in the f...ace of COVID-19. The team from UTS won first place. "We chose headspace because it felt particularly relevant considering the mental health crisis and surge in demand for youth mental health services during the pandemic," said Katie Jones, President of the Sydney Consulting Club and Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws student. "We wanted students to consider intersecting challenges like providing appropriate, individualised services for groups who often struggle to access traditional services: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, the LGBTIQA+ community, young men, rural youth and homeless young Australians." Congratulations to the Sydney Consulting Club and all competing teams!
