22.01.2022 CPSU-NSW Professional Staff Union Delegates have identified members at Charles Sturt University (CSU) who are impacted by up to $5,500 in unpaid superannuation. This reinforces the importance of being a member of the CPSU-NSW. It demonstrates the value of being able to seek advice and representation from our delegates, industrial and legal staff to ensure you are remunerated appropriately. If this oversight had not been identified, current staff leaving employment through redundancy would have stood to miss out on more than $250,000 in superannuation payments.

22.01.2022 The University of Sydney will earn almost as much in student revenue this year as it expected before the pandemic, after the domestic market stayed strong and fewer international students dropped out than it had feared.

21.01.2022 Your union, the CPSU NSW. has been provided with Workplace Change Proposals from Macquarie University in the areas of IT, Finance and Learning and Teaching. The CPSU NSW is extremely concerned about the job losses proposed by the university and will fight to protect your interests at this difficult time. At the meeting of the Professional Staff Implementation Committee on 11 November the CPSU NSW raised concerns about workload issues arising from the Voluntary Redundancy process and the health and safety implications of restructures.

20.01.2022 The exodus of international students due to the COVID-19 pandemic has cost Sydney's economy $2.5 billion as small businesses go quiet and rental properties remain empty.

19.01.2022 Employer groups have welcomed emergency provisions that will allow businesses to cut workers’ pay and conditions for at least the next two years. The Australian Industry Group and Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry praised the Coalition for suspending the better off overall test on workplace pay deals, a move that has already prompted fierce backlash from unions.

18.01.2022 The Morrison Government’s omnibus IR Bill will allow employers to make agreements that cut the wages and conditions of workers. Working people have already sacrificed so much during this pandemic, these proposed laws will punish them. This bill must be stopped.

16.01.2022 TOO BIG TO FAIL Members of the PSA and CPSU NSW would know our coverage is as diverse as the confectionery aisle at the local supermarket. We cover white and bl...ue-collar jobs, male- and female-dominated industries, office and field work, national and state systems. But generally in the midst of this pandemic there has been one commonality an increased demand for the vital services our members provide. There is one exception the university sector. Not that the jobs our members perform there in nonacademic roles are being underutilised but the sector is experiencing its own unique demand crisis. COVID-19 and resultant border closures have led to a huge drop in international student numbers and a consequent financial crisis on a scale that we have never witnessed before. But like Hansel and Gretel (hopefully with breadcrumbs intact), how we got here gives us some indications on how we get out of it. 09.01.2022 Universities are pushing for international students to return to campuses in early 2021 as new research shows Australia could lose students to countries with firm plans in place to allow them to return to face-to-face teaching.

07.01.2022 After decades of chalking up record profits, Australian universities are now mired in a deep crisis. But if we’re going to defend let alone rebuild the sector, its champions have to reject the subordination of education to the bottom line.

03.01.2022 MESSAGE TO CHARLES STURT UNI MEMBERS FROM CSU BRANCH COMMITTEE A short update on what’s been happening: Superannuation on severance payments: You may remember from the last update the CPSU was in dispute over the application of clause 33.9 in regard to superannuation on severance payments. The university, while not accepting it has breached the EA has advised that clause 33.9 will be applied as it is written in the agreement. This means that for staff who took voluntary red...undancies in OR1 they will be paid any superannuation payments that they are owed (in some cases over $5000). The impacted staff will be those that have more than 15yrs full time service and have taken or been made redundant in OR1 & 2 The clause will also be applied correctly for those taking VR in OR2. Weekly meeting with P&C: Your delegates are meeting weekly and sometime twice a week with P&C to sort out any issues that arise. Please if you have any questions or issues you would like us to deal with send them to me. OR2: we have been pushing P&C hard to give use firm dates on the change proposals/Possible VR round for Professional staff in the faculties. There are delays around this process due to a dispute over change processes by the other Union. We are hoping this will be resolved this week. P&C have indicated that staff will know before Xmas what is proposed however implementation may be delayed until early 2021. We remind you to use the support services that are available including the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). It is available to all employees to provide confidential and professional support with personal or work related matters should you need to contact them. We are here to assist.
