09.01.2022 WE LOVE 'RIGHT TO REPAIR' Have you heard of the 'right to repair'? It means having laws that ensure ALL new products : - can be easily taken apart - have spare parts available... - can be repaired with standard tools Do you think we should have a right to repair law in Australia? Then have your say! The government is currently accepting submissions and comments here (until Jan 2021) https://www.pc.gov.au/inquiries/current/repair More on Right to Repair here: https://www.abc.net.au//smartphone-electronics-ri/11462572

06.01.2022 HELP UNLEY DECLARE A CLIMATE EMERGENCY On 26 October, Unley Council will debate a motion to Declare a Climate Emergency. This will only succeed if sufficient residents voice their support. Please speak up if this is important to you! LETTER/PHONE... Contacting councillors is crucial (contacts from young people and school students are also important). As far as we can tell, four councillors who may have not made up their minds are: Cr Jordan Dodd - 0421 418 428 Cr Nicole Sheehan - 0403 051 079 Cr Emma Wright - 0488 523 777 Cr Don Palmer - 0414 820 773 It is also worth contacting other Councillors (including your local Councillor) to register your support. Contact details: https://www.unley.sa.gov.au//Councillors/Councillors-wards IN PERSON Join others in the visitors gallery and outside the Council Chamber, 6:30pm 26 October, to show your support (RSVP to [email protected] to let us know you are coming). ----------------------- Why should Unley declare a climate emergency? To keep warming below 1.5C, we need to halve emissions by 2030 - but emissions continue to rise. Unley Council is doing good work on trees, waste, water and installing solar PV, but more must be done. The Council needs a clear plan to achieve net zero emissions. It must advocate for action in our community and to all levels of government to address the climate emergency. We all have a role to play - we need to get behind the science and act immediately. If the motion is passed, Unley will join over 90 other Councils in Australia (which include the neighbouring Cities of Burnside and Mitcham) that have declared a climate emergency. We would really appreciate your support. Let’s get this motion passed first time! Please pass this on to friends, family, neighbours, colleagues and others who live, work or play in the City of Unley. This infomation is being shared on behalf of a friend of the Unley Repair Cafe.
