22.01.2022 Anzac Day Dawn Service update. G'day all, After much to-ing and fro-ing and moving of goalposts, we have finally settled on a plan for the Adelaide Dawn Service... that sits within the restrictions imposed by the state government. Dawn Service will be conducted at the National War Memorial, cnr North Tce and Kintore Ave, commencing at 06:00. It will not be open to the public. This also means that representatives of ex-service organisations and kindred organisations who usually place tributes cannot attend. This is deeply regrettable, but necessary. If you have not received an email from me inviting you to attend, do not attend. There will be an exclusion zone around the memorial, and police and crowd controllers will move on anyone who turns up uninvited. This is necessary as the RSL is legally responsible for the number of people who attend. The service will be shorter than usual to allow for live broadcast on both ABC News 24 TV and ABC891 local radio, and will finish at 06:30. Many people will be running their own #LightUpTheDawn ceremonies in their driveways starting at times of their own choosing, but if you would like to participate in a brief driveway ceremony then watch the Adelaide Dawn Service live on ABC TV or listen live with Peter Goers on ABC891 local radio, Peter will be reciting the Ode on air at 05:55, followed by the playing of the Last Post and two minutes' silence. This will conclude at 06:00 when he will commence the live broadcast of the service. Remember to maintain social distancing when conducting your #LightUpTheDawn ceremony. The RSL acknowledges the deeply-held feelings of members of the public who would like to attend a Dawn Service and pay their respects to the fallen. Unfortunately this year that is going to look quite different from usual. Please #LightUpTheDawn then watch or listen to the Adelaide Dawn Service on TV or radio. The Dawn Service broadcast will also be available live streamed here on our Facebook page, and later on ABC iView. We would like to acknowledge the long-standing commitment of the ABC in broadcasting the Adelaide Dawn Service and the other commemorative events for many years, and the assistance of the City of Adelaide and South Australia Police. Finally, the unwavering support of the Premier has been crucial in ensuring the Dawn Service goes ahead, and special thanks go to him. If you have any queries, feel free to contact me via [email protected]. Ian Smith Chair Anzac Day Committee

18.01.2022 All public Anzac Day services and commemorations are now cancelled. As many veterans would fall into the high at risk category for Covid-19 infection this is the right, and altruistic, path to take. RSL members Some sub-branches will hold dawn services for their members only. If you aren’t a member you are asked to not attend. Unley RSL sub branch will consider this and advise ASAP.... For members of the public. Whilst public services won’t occur this does not diminish the meaning behind Anzac Day. This is an opportunity to privately mark the occasion and we encourage you to plan, and take the time to do this appropriately. There will be live TV services and events.

17.01.2022 In line with both the national and state RSL, and the national and state government‘s recommendations, our Unley Sub Branch has observed the instructions to not hold the ANZAC Day service, breakfast and all of the activities we normally hold. A wreath will be placed at the Cenotaph on behalf of the Navy, Army, Airforce and RSL on the morning. We will resume when restrictions are lifted. We encourage you to Light up the Dawn.... http://rslsa.org.au/light-up-the-dawn/
