16.01.2022 High point teaching violin this week -this student was indisposed and unnable to drive to her lesson but could talk on the phone. All she could do was lay her hand down on a cushion palm up as she had joint pain. We worked on playing embellishments using her left (violin) hand and basically THINKING it through, some rhythms in a duet and her bowing arm. Effective lesson and all on the phone. Yay!

14.01.2022 Love this. From children I teach online. They have to send a report on piano morale before the lesson so I can begin with a strong sense of what we call the long term relationship (to piano learning).

Maybe there's a class of elderly students who love learning together and now the rug has been pulled out. My expertise is using the Zoom platform and I have been online teaching very effectively for around 8 years because of my own rural isolation. I believe you can teach anything on...line and have fun. Group sessions will be run for a month to trial effectiveness at 9 00 AM. Session will run for an hour and numbers limited to 20. First in best dressed. Email [email protected] to register. Mention the skill you wish to impart and the group size. Lets keep community alive.

02.01.2022 We've fallen head over heels for Unmani, her Unmani Music business and her entrepreneurial qualities. Armed with a laptop and webcam, Unmani teaches piano, vio...lin, guitar and accordion to people all around Australia and the world - and she does it all from her farm at Wal Wal, 40 minutes from Horsham in Western Victoria! It demonstrates how technology is closing the divide between city and country and that it's becoming easier to turn an idea into a business and create an income no matter where you live in Australia! Unmani has also built a super adobe music studio by hand - with outstanding acoustics and sweeping views of her farm - which is available for hire for meetings and events, musical or otherwise. Mallee Rising has just completed building the new unmani.com.au website with Unmani to tell her amazing story to the world and we think this project is a regional success story: using a webcam and online collaboration tools we developed and launched the website as well as trained Unmani to edit her website and gain autonomy - the same way she teaches people to play an instrument. And we did it all without the need to travel to her farm or her travelling here! The future of regional communities and economies will be bright if we harness technology the way Unmani does and this project did!
