25.01.2022 ANTI TECHNOLOGY?: People ask me all the time if I am anti-technology or if I am against gaming, or against all screens. People have assumed that we don’t have TVs in our home, or that my kids don’t watch any screens. This is not true. I mean, if I was anti-technology, or against social media, would you be reading this? Would I have a Facebook? An instagram? My point is, I’m not. Technology has its place. Screens, gaming, social media, kids on iPads, YouTube, they all have... their place. Balance. Moderation. These are the things I teach and encourage. Everything in balance. My daughter watches tv. She loves Bluey (so do I, SUCH a good show!) and she also loves Frozen (not my fav, especially after the 59th time, I’ll admit) A lot of my business revolves about being on my phone, and on social media, and my website. My daughter and I love playing reading eggs together on my iPad. A great way for her to have fun whilst learning, and something fun for us to do together #unpluggedpsychologist #techdiet #balance #screentime #readingeggs @readingeggs #gaming #kidsonscreens #technology See more

25.01.2022 Brad Marshall, a child psychologist and Director of Internet Addiction Clinic at Kidspace, tells 9Honey: "It is becoming more and more unlikely to stop your children seeing everything online." "The idea of preventing your child seeing inappropriate things is pretty unrealistic," he adds. Instead, Marshall suggests having "open conversations and open dialogue" about explicit content if it is encountered.... "Don't lose your cool. You need to be having calm conversations with your children to encourage them to be open about what they may encounter and understand it," he says. "Otherwise they're much less likely to come to you in future." Read the full article below. https://www.google.com.au//51eaa660-be05-42eb-a422-bb47dc2

20.01.2022 Anyone watched The Social Dilemma yet? Blew my mind to see industry insiders confirm what I’ve been talking to parents about for years! That doesn’t mean we have to throw our phones away though. You can take some simple steps to protect your child’s health, and I’ll help you. Even I am not immune to the effects. That’s why I limit my social media on my phone to 15 min per day and only my wife knows the passcode to unlock it! ... #thesocialdilemma #unpluggedpsychologist #techdiet See more

19.01.2022 Let’s face it, a lot of parents have a love-hate relationship with technology. It can make so many aspects of parenting a breeze, and others a living nightmare; and who has time figure out real-life strategies that actually work? For nearly a decade, I’ve been helping families find a balance between healthy screen time and internet and gaming addiction. When it comes to managing kids on screens, phones and video games, parents want real strategies and actual solutions, witho...ut the jargon. If this is you, keep reading. I’ve developed a two part video tutorial series for you - real world strategies you can use and actually implement in your home; these are my tried and tested 7 Unplugged Steps of how to finally achieve screen and internet balance in your home. This is not going to be a series about how gaming, social media, phones, computers, or laptops are the worst thing in the world - far from it - we're going to talk about how to get some balance in this area for your kids. I'm going to take you through a two-part video series There are 5 videos in Part One, and 8 videos in Part Two. Part One - I cover some of the research into gaming, social media, and gambling, as well as address the burning question of When Should Parents be Concerned Part Two The real world strategies you can use and implement in your home; these are my tried and tested 7 Unplugged Steps of how to actually achieve balance in your home. I also cover some common Q&A’s, and some troubleshooting of the most common issues I get asked in my clinic and at my talks. Some of you are going to be tempted just to jump straight to Part Two for the strategies, and skip Part One - now if you want to do that, that's okay, but I really do encourage you to take the time to watch Part One. Part One is so important because if you don't understand the basics behind what I’m talking about, I find it's really difficult for you to apply the 7 Unplugged Steps that I'm asking you to apply in Part One. So join me, go to https://unpluggedpsychologist.com//video-series-part-one-/ for more information or to purchase, and I hope you really enjoy these videos. -Brad

07.01.2022 Is gaming addiction real? Is gaming addiction a growing problem? Can gaming addiction be cured? Can gaming addiction cause depression? Can gaming addiction cause anxiety?... How is screen addiction damaging kids' brains? How can gaming addiction be treated? What else can gaming addiction lead to? Is screen addiction an epidemic? How does gaming addiction affect the brain? What causes gaming addiction? What defines gaming addiction? Is my teenager addicted to the internet? When did gaming addiction start? How do kids overcome screen addiction? When does gaming becomes an addiction? I get asked these questions (and more) every day. In my internet addiction clinic, with my clients, my patients, with parents, teachers, principals, school counselors, colleagues across the globe, via emails, and on my social media accounts. Every day. Clearly this is a problem. My wait list is as long as my arm. My clinic is busy. My dm’s are chockers. I wrote my book The Tech Diet for your Child + Teen to help the families who can’t access me in person. My next project makes me accessible to everyone, on a much more personal level. Stay tuned. Watch this space. Help is on the way.
