11.01.2022 This is inside the NSW Health Pathology Westmead laboratory where COVID19 antibody testing is conducted for our studies. Here, pathologists have been analysing de-identified blood samples for a study into how many people contracted COVID-19 earlier this year and may have been undetected. Why is this type of testing important?... Antibodies are created when the body’s immune system responds to infection, and can be detected for months afterwards. Antibody (also called ‘serological’) surveys can give us a better idea of the number of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) than reported case numbers. This is because many people who have COVID-19 experience only mild symptoms, or even none at all, and may not always come forward for testing. Co-led by the Kirby Institute at UNSW, the study findings show the success of the NSW Health #COVID19 response and the importance of testing, experts say. So... How many Sydneysiders were infected? Here's what we found: https://unsw.to/COVIDAntibodyStudy

Why is this important?... Antibodies are created when the body’s immune system responds to infection, and can be detected for months afterwards. Antibody (also called ‘serological’) surveys like those demonstrated in these pictures can give us a better idea of the number of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) than reported case numbers. 03.01.2022 "When it comes to public health infrastructure and resources per head of population, Victoria is much worse off." Here's why UNSW's Prof Raina MacIntyre says NSW has a better resourced and accountable health system described as the "gold standard" of living with coronavirus.

01.01.2022 These new findings show the success of the NSW #COVID19 response and the importance of testing, experts say. A study co-led by Kirby Institute suggests less than 1% of Sydney contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus after the first epidemic wave a very small proportion.
