25.01.2022 Introducing our fourth panellist Kayla is currently the Program Support Officer for the UNSW Institute for Global Development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney and a Master of Development Studies from UNSW. She has undertaken research on Fairtrade coffee production in Indonesia. Kayla is broadly interested in issues related to equitable economic partnerships for smallholder producers and understanding the application of business models such as certification systems.



18.01.2022 Introducing our third panellist Kimberley Bates is a Communications Specialist in Humanitarian Affairs and was awarded the Global Youth Icon Award at the United Nations in Bangkok Thailand. She is an alumni of Australia's New Colombo Plan Scholarship and was recently awarded the 2020 Jack Cranstoun Scholarship by the Queensland Department of Justice, Dispute Resolution Centre. Kimberley has extensive experience in cross-cultural studies having travelled to China, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Thailand to undertake research, where she has focused on a range of topics including mental health, domestic violence, and cyber security.

17.01.2022 Introducing our second panellist Thom Dixon is Vice President for the Australian Institute of International Affairs NSW. He is undertaking a PhD at Macquarie University looking at engineering biology and international security. Thom is an honorary research fellow with Remi AI, an artificial intelligence company based in Australia and the US. In 2018, he completed a Non-resident WSD-Handa Fellowship with the Pacific Forum on synthetic biology and Australian foreign pol...icy. Thom is an Emerging Leader alumni of the 2017 EU-Australia Leadership Forum and the National Research Assessments Leader at Macquarie University. He writes on issues that cross research, innovation and international affairs. He is particularly interested in the convergence of the life sciences and information sciences and the impact this has on international relations. See more

10.01.2022 Introducing our final panellist Alyssa Leng is a Research Associate in the Asian Power and Diplomacy program at the Lowy Institute. Alyssa works primarily on the Lowy Institute Asia Power Index, a data-driven project launched by the Institute in 2018 to map the changing distribution of power in the region. Her other research interests include international macroeconomics and geo-economics, as well as Southeast Asian economics and politics, particularly in Malaysia and Indonesia. Before joining the Institute, Alyssa worked on Australia's economic policy response to the COVID-19 pandemic and infrastructure policy at the Australian Treasury. Alyssa has also worked at the Reserve Bank of Australia and holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney.
