24.01.2022 What a gorgeous weekend for chickens My stomach always sinks a bit when I see a hen not upright Until I realise it's just sun baking

22.01.2022 The new baby chicks delighted with their GVG baby food (turn up the volume

21.01.2022 The hens are enjoying dust baths, sun and fresh

20.01.2022 What a pretty pair! These 2 are from a suburban home where foxes are becoming too brazen and as a result took their sisters in broad daylight So for their safety they were given to my sanctuary to live out their lives ... Welcome. In quarantine today, out tomorrow

19.01.2022 This new addition has decided the compost pit is her favourite spot At least we don't have to turn it over ourselves now

18.01.2022 The girls wondering what are these things doing in their yard

18.01.2022 Do you have pet chickens you can no longer care for? I can offer a home for life, photos and updates offered. Your hens will graze on 1 acre until their last breath. ... Located Bayles, Victoria

17.01.2022 I actually love lockdown. I am lucky that I have employment and one that affords me to work from home. The hens love it when I sit outside with them in LD. This is one of the twin chicks that arrived here last year. She's the only hen here that loves a pat. She loves her wattles being gently rubbed. I know her old owners raised her with much love and attention. She still accepts it I just love her

17.01.2022 This area of the yard would be the equivalent to a day spa for hens. They spend hours here dusting and preening. It's under a large conifer so it rarely gets wet Rolph stands guard policing who's next in line

16.01.2022 Happiness is a Sunday morning dust bath

16.01.2022 I found this at my local feed store. I've bought 'pecker' blocks before and they usually get left untouched. They seem to really like this one

15.01.2022 What a lovely day for some winter sun

12.01.2022 3 city hens made their way here yesterday morning. Very heavy ladies who have been lovingly cared for, for 4 years. Now retired to the farm

12.01.2022 8! These sweet hens made their way to me this morning from 2 families who wanted to see their girls on larger grazing land bigger than their backyards. I applaud those that track down my page and send their beloved pets my way. ... Chickens like to scratch around and can outgrow their family suburban backyards very quickly. No chance of that here. My farmlet is 20 acres, so if ever I need to build them another grazing yard I will

12.01.2022 3 more ladies joined the flock late last week - 2 Isa's & a white Leghorn. They were quarantined during the day in a separate run, and placed in the coop overnight. Now they are out today with the rest of the flock and being accepted. Hens can be territorial and reject newbies if not introduced slowly

11.01.2022 The Isa Brown is a common backyard chook who dominate the flock here. I love the variations in this hybrid cross breed. This lady was one of 4 who joined us last year. Her owners are older folk who buy 4 chooks a year, and re home them after 9 months so they can go travelling 3 months of the year. ... They rehomed 4 pretty ladies who all have dark necks

11.01.2022 Today is International Respect For Chickens Day https://www.facebook.com/14652665129/posts/10160805772390130/?sfnsn=mo

08.01.2022 This new darling old girl joined us yesterday. She was the last man standing from an inherited flock. Her owners have done a wonderful job keeping her in such great nic for an Isa, and they wanted her to continue living out her senior years with others in the retirement she deserves. Welcome Cheeseymite scrolls are the bomb

06.01.2022 This young lady was surrendered as she started to crow in suburbia and the neighbours didn't appreciate it. Hens can crow either because there are no roosters around to dominate or her left ovary stopped functioning causing a rise in testosterone, instead of oestrogen. Either way, we love her singing! She also taps on the windows to come inside sometimes

06.01.2022 I sometimes read comments on FB from people saying their chickens dig up the garden and vegies so it's time for them to go When we moved to this new property, you could see the garden was once much loved and thought out with ornaments, trees and garden benches. But it was very neglected and knee high in grass everywhere The chickens have been an incredible asset turning over once loved areas that were in fact garden beds. This year is the first year the old bulbs I ne...ver knew existed, have reared along with a huge patch of garlic! All thanks to the chickens removing the choking grass and disrupting them No chemical sprays or elbow grease required I also have a thriving vegie garden which they help with. I do lose a few low hanging cherry tomatoes and strawberries, but hey, at least they don't take all of them

03.01.2022 The hens are kept safe during the day by these 2 . We've never lost a hen to a fox while they roam around the acre eating grass and picking up bugs Huntsmen spiders are an Isa Browns favourite snack!

03.01.2022 Because I have so much spare time () I foster or volunteer with a dog rescue group. This girl came back into care from a failed adoption (she's perfection), and her last carer couldn't take her so I Being under 1yo it's important to keep an eye on their excitement still, but look at this girl ignore the hens The Koolie breed has never let me down
