25.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all of you. A little trip down memory lane. What a ride the last four years have been xxx

25.01.2022 I stand up against bullying of all types. There has been some really abhorrent bullying going on the past few days in the pilates world and I have been thinking and observing before I wrote anything. I don’t begin to understand all of what lead to the horrid comments that spewed from one person towards another. But to be perfectly honest, I don’t think anything would make me think that these comments were acceptable or warranted. I don’t know either of them personally but th...e person being bullied is someone that I’ve followed for several years now and admired for her approach to the method. She works to challenge the stigma that can sometimes be associated with the industry and the shapes of bodies that should or should not be doing it. We need people like @anula to question the status quo and make us think about how we treat people of all shapes and sizes. Yes, there are many lithe ballerinas that love pilates but there are so many other people with different shaped bodies who use the method to give them freedom to live their lives. Is the pilates that I teach exactly as Joe taught it? No, but does it really matter? I started pilates for something different and fell in love with it straight away. It was something that challenged me each week in ways I had not been challenged before. Most studio owners have a story similar to mine. They got into it, fell in love and then wanted to teach others how amazing it was. Classical or contemporary, ballerina or not, pilates is wonderful and perhaps the industry needs to stop and remember that the clients aren’t coming because they want to look a certain way. Yes there are aesthetic targets that we all want and pilates can help but I would think that 99% of clients keep coming because of how it makes them feel. This feeling has nothing to do with what they look like before, during or after class. A good instructor should be doing this rather than trying to make a point about what type of pilates they teach and what body is the ‘best’. There is no best. You only get one body so just move that one. Like Joe said change happens through movement and movement heals Anula. I am sorry you have had to go through this

22.01.2022 Sometimes you have to just take a few steps back (or even a leap) to keep moving forward. I’ve been trying to do too much and it’s meant making sacrifices I don’t want to make. I am trying to find a balance between being a mother, business owner, wife, daughter, sister, friend and myself and it’s really hard sometimes. I’ve been spending a lot less time here so sorry if you missed me. It’s meant I’ve had time to do things with the kids and make some progress on home project...s which has been nice. It’s gotten me wondering though, will I ever find the balance? Let me know your tips to finding a balance

15.01.2022 How rough is a broken nights sleep? For the first time in a while we had a terrible night. Valentino was up from 3:30. I was too sleepy to realise that his nappy was full or that he was probably cold. After three hours of broken sleep I’m grouchy and not the happy calm mum I aspire to be. It’s taken me right back to those early days of sleepless nights, constant feeding and a desire to run away at times. ... And if you’re there now, give yourself a big break. Don’t worry about the housework, let the toddler watch some tv and have a rest. Make yourself a smoothie to boost your nutrition for the day (It’s also way easier to drink a meal with one hand). As always, remember that this too will pass. There will be time for all the things. There will be time for exercise. There will be time for you too. Patience and kindness are what you need right now Who joined me on the broken sleep train last night? 12.01.2022 I is for inner thighs Otherwise known as adductors, this is a part of the leg that a lot of women want to change. I have never had a thigh gap and sometimes look longingly at those that do. Only sometimes though. I’m human after all - I don’t love all of me all of the time. The thing with the thigh gap is that sometimes it’s genetics and other times it’s amazing diet and exercise that cause it to appear. Pilates can definitely help to tone and strengthen this area of your le...g - I just can’t guarantee a gap ;) Apart from the aesthetic aspect however, having strong adductors is just as important as having strong glutes, hamstrings, external hip rotators, pelvic floor muscles, abdominals, shoulders and all the other muscle groups in your body.. Your adductors are a part of your hip complex and need to be strengthened and lengthened just like all the other muscles in and around your pelvis. Want to strengthen your lower half? 12.01.2022 Happy new year beautiful people! The studio will be back stronger than ever in 2021. I can’t wait to see all of my loyal clients and meet some new ones. 2020 had challenges but mostly I’m grateful for all it gave me - time with my little family, time to slow down and notice all the good things. Thursdays are opening the week of the 12th of Feb. A new refreshed website is almost finished. The post natal program will be bigger and better than ever and I’m working on a new onli...ne mat class option too. For the rest of the week though, I’m taking it slow and being as present as possible. I will definitely be sharing more incredible pictures by @jessicaross_photography I can’t believe how beautiful they turned out. Here’s to more happy memories being made this year. 12.01.2022 N is for neutral Neutral spine and neutral pelvis are two terms mentioned a lot in Pilates. So what do they actually mean? It all depends on what you’re comparing the spine/pelvis to. Let’s say for example you are lying on your back. Neutral pelvis would mean that your pubic bone and front hip bones (ASIS - Anterior superior iliac spines) are parallel to the surface and your natural spinal curves are present. ... The theory is that when the spine and pelvis are neutral, movement will be easier and more efficient. The thing with neutrality though is that it’s not always as easy as it seems. Your posture throughout the years preceding your foray into a studio will occasionally make it harder to move into a neutral spine/pelvis and stay there. Sometimes muscles need to be lengthened to allow you to get into the position and forcing it can lead to other problems somewhere else in the body. I will assess your pelvis and spine during your initial consultation and ensure that we are gently moving towards neutral with each session. Want to know more, get in touch. 10.01.2022 D is for DO NOT COMPARE it was supposed to be for diastasis but I’ve changed my mind. I’ve also posted twice today. I’ve been thinking a lot about things the last few days and I wanted to just catch YOU if you’re scrolling through and remind you not to compare yourself to anyone on here. It’s easy to look at my pictures and think lots of things but here are some truths that aren’t captured on the gram ... On Friday I yelled at the boys louder than I ever have before My kids say the f word all the time and it’s because of me I’m 10 kg heavier than I want to be Some days I want to work more because the kids are challenging me Other days I want to quit it all and just spend every minute with them Most of the time I don’t really know what I’m doing from a business point of view I’m having conflict with my little brother I can’t remember the last time I had sex Or the last time I had a proper conversation with a friend Or people’s birthdays other than my kids Point is, everyone has shit going on behind these little squares and that it’s ok to be a mess sometimes. I am too. As always, be kind to yourself and if you need someone to listen to you, just send me a DM Have a good night and don’t forget pre sale goes live in the morning for my post natal program This little content series I’m sharing is part of a challenge I joined to celebrate the release of Idiello’s signature Tactical Masterclass in Integrated Marketing. 10.01.2022 W is for Wunda Chair It’s the smallest of the three main pieces of pilates equipment and is often loved and hated by clients in equal measure. I love the challenge that it offers by forcing people to use their muscles to sit or stand up taller. Quite different as compared to the trapeze or reformer where most exercises are performed lying down. Love it or hate it, when you nail a new exercise on the Wunda chair, the smile is often big and the sense of achievement fairly lar...ge. 09.01.2022 Do you really get a workout in if the kids are with you? It really depends on the kids and the day. Most of the kids are really happy to play in the studio. Occasionally they will come to you to show you something they’ve found but often then will go back. Occasionally, they will need to be near you at all times and I can accommodate them in most instances or distract them with the small studio props. It’s not an inconvenience - it’s just par for the course of a studio where ...kids of all ages are welcome. If your child really loves a type of toy, let me know. 07.01.2022 I was fortunate enough to spend 24 hours in Sydney this weekend with girlfriends. No kids. No husbands. Just great people who I’m so lucky to know. I am so grateful for my boys and motherhood but I really needed a break just to refresh my batteries. This year has been tough but I feel so much lighter for having been able to talk about whatever I wanted without interruptions. And drive the car with a podcast on rather than the Moana soundtrack. It was also a novelty to use the toilet by myself. I thoroughly recommend carving out time for you to do something all by yourself. It was in the diary for about six weeks and it did seem selfish. But sometimes you need to be a little bit selfish so you can keep giving to those that you love.

04.01.2022 I’m scared to do exercise after having a baby This is actually more common than you may realise. I totally appreciate that there is an overwhelming amount of information out there about what you can and can’t do. When you’re ready, I will do my best to help to allay some of those fears. DM me or call/text me. I will answer what I can and when I don’t know, I’ll refer you to someone that knows more than me. I want you to move because I know it can help you. Yes, there may be ...some things to avoid in the early stages of your post natal journey but there is still so much that you can do to make you feel great both physically and mentally. The toughest part is reaching out. Did you know I have a post natal program to get you moving again? It will help to reconnect you to your pelvic floor and abdominals, bring awareness to your breath and get your spine moving again. Next intake starts on October 12. Waitlist below. Tag your post natal besties below to let them know. P.S. This was taken 5 days after my second was born. I don't what I was doing taking both of the boys to shops so soon after birth but I felt good and went for it. It was a quick in and out, I got what I needed and went back home. 03.01.2022 Getting the most out of life Sometimes we just need to take our kids lead and get lost in the moment. 03.01.2022 U is for upper back. We all know that we spend waaaaaay too much time looking at our devices. There is a new documentary all about social media and what it can do for our brains but today I’m going to talk about what all the looking down does for your body. Think, lengthened neck ligaments, potential for headaches or a dowager hump and rounded shoulders - all in all, nothing particularly desired. It can be combated though with some specific upper back strengthening. Almost e...very session with me, whether it be in the studio or online, will include upper back strengthening work. I know how important it is to have a strong upper back and will use all the tools I need to get you stronger in the back. Need to strengthen your back? Get in touch with me. . . . . . 02.01.2022 Along the train of thought from yesterday’s post about taking leaps backward to keep moving forward, I’ve been having lots of conversations lately about just this. Often your postnatal journey is not linear. Some of you will be lucky enough to sail through fairly easily and for others it will be marked with spots of darkness. There will be times when you simply cannot imagine a time when things will be better. When you won’t feel your prolapse every single day. When you won...’t want to pee every time you cough or sneeze. When sex with your partner won’t be painful anymore. On those days, just let out the emotions, cry if you need to. Eat that chocolate or drink that wine. Text a friend or even me. I’ll remind you gently that tomorrow is a new day. And that it won’t be like this forever. Your babies will grow, the demand for you will get less and you will finally have time and energy to work on making yourself whole again with some help from your special people. Sometimes a backward step is just what you need to remind you to look that way and remember how far you’ve already come. This pic was taken about 12 weeks post natal with my second. I was still technically on maternity leave and texted this to hubby at midday. Not dressed, not showered and breastfeeding again. I was saggy, tired and there was probably a toddler at my feet glued to the tv screen ;) I’m not there now but at the time couldn’t imagine when I would ever feel like myself again. Tag your friends below that are in the thick of it and let them know there are others out there too going through the motions just like them.
