20.01.2022 Introducing our EVATT 2020 convenor Sara Possingham! Sara started out as a UN Youth delegate at State Conference 2016 and has never looked back! She went on to attend Evatt, day summits, state conferences and two international activities. Sara has since enjoyed facilitating every kind of UNYA event (except an IA - but it's on the top of her list!) When Sara is not facilitating, she works full time and is about to compete in two national tarmac rally competitions later in th...e year. --- To get to know Sara better - and find out her top tips for this year’s dels - check out our Q&A! What made you want to convene Evatt? Competing in Evatt was such an exciting experience as a delegate. I wanted to be able to create that exciting opportunity, and change things up a little in the competition! What part of Evatt are you most looking forward to? Seeing first time delegates get stuck in! I think there’s a lot of opportunity this year for new delegates to learn a lot and compete in a big way in the competition. The resolutions have a lot of potential, and we are offering training to delegates in the preliminary rounds. Got any tips for our delegates? Take every opportunity to speak up! You’re not going to be perfect every time, but getting your voice heard means getting noticed. Ask questions and don’t be afraid to give it a crack. Even a couple sentences are better than nothing! 10.01.2022 EVATT RECAP It was great to see students come and represent their schools at our Evatt preliminarily rounds - and to welcome so many first time delegates! A first time Year 10 student kindly shared their feedback with us after the first debate - This is my first time at Evatt! I decided to do Evatt because I’m a big lover of politics and diplomacy and I wanted to really strengthen my knowledge. The first round got intense! Everyone was in the moment and it was exhilarat...ing. Now we know how it works we’re going to speak out and be more assertive for our country in the next round. 02.01.2022 This #WorldMentalHealthDay, we shed light on what is in the #FederalBudget for support in youth mental health. Mental Health was the third biggest issue raised by young people in the 2019 Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations listening tour. One of the key recommendations of the 2019 Youth Representative Report was building the capacity of the Medicare system to provide affordable mental health care to young people experiencing ongoing conditions, this budge...t goes some of that way.
