17.01.2022 To all our postgraduate students please take some time and support our brother Dan Bonsu as he runs for postgraduate representative on the University of Adelaide council. To vote for him just click on this link < elections.adelaide.edu.au > and enter the number 1 in the box in front of the name Dan Bonsu. Below is a short article on what he has done and what he aims to achieve if he gets this position. My name is Dan Osei Mensah Bonsu. I am from Ghana and a current PhD... student at the Australian Centre for Ancient DNA (ACAD). I am contesting for the Postgraduate Representative position on the University of Adelaide (UoA) Council. I have held several student leadership positions (current postgraduate rep on the Faculty of Science Board) in my previous studies and successfully employed civil engagement with appropriate authorities to push for student welfare. Having worked for three years as a lecturer and academic advisor at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, I believe that I can bring my experience to bear on creating student-centred reforms, by being the mouthpiece of all students at the highest decision-making body of UoA. I would be a clear communication link, for all postgraduates to channel their challenges and grievances, and thoroughly present same for expedited action to the Council. A Graduate Students Association which collaborates with the Graduate Centre and whose executives will be the leaders of the already existing associations, should be able to organise and implement tailor-made solutions to the various inconveniences encountered by both coursework and research postgraduate students. As the first African to contest for this position, I am best placed to convey the many challenges we face in adapting to the new academic systems here and with settling in the community; and where best to get the necessary information than a collaboration with the leadership of the University of Adelaide African Student Association? I have taken notice of how the LCE nights are organised separately for specific countries, but done low-key for an entire (African) continent. I believe that with a united front, we can challenge the status quo, create a thriving student community and enjoy the university experience, which I will relentlessly spearhead via the platform as a Postgraduate Student Representative on the University of Adelaide Council.
