04.01.2022 Dear Dharma brothers and sisters, The recent outbreak of coronavirus has put our understanding and the practice of Dharma to test. Because of the spread of the epidemic, many people panicked and started hoarding. This fear and anxiety reflected the sufferings mentioned in the First Noble Truth and reminded us to apply Buddhas teachings to our daily life. In time of crisis, we should pause and... 1) Look at our anxiety and fear. 2) Do not dismiss or suppress our anxiety or fear, but acknowledge them. 3) Understand the existence of anxiety and fear and dissociate ourselves from them because they are not ours. Example: "There is anxiety", not "I am anxious". 4) Although there is an outbreak of coronavirus, we need not to be frightened. Fear is like a rocking chair; it gives you something to do but brings you nowhere. 5) Meditate to calm our mind. A healthy mind can boost the immune system. 6) Practice loving-kindness every morning when you wake up: a. May I be carefree b. May my family members be carefree c. May everyone be carefree 7) Spend valuable time with your family members at home. 8) Be aware of unauthentic forwarded mails or fake news on the internet. Reading too many of these mails would only cause more anxieties and create negative emotions. Finally, may everyone be carefree in body and mind. Yours in the Dharma, Juedi
