25.01.2022 Professor Clare Murphy, Director of UOW's Centre for Atmospheric Chemistry and a team of UOW researchers have identified a number of ways to mitigate air pollution, including phasing out wood heaters in urban areas, reducing the number of vehicles on the roads, encouraging low-emission vehicles, and improving air-quality monitoring.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to Professor Victoria Traynor and Professor Val Wilson on the launch of their latest delirium project. The project is aimed at creating a screen test for delirium in post-operative patients, a condition which often goes undetected.

23.01.2022 The team at the Centre for Sustainable Ecosystem Solutions were devastated in January this year when bushfires tore through the Kosciuszko National Park. Only one month earlier, 115 laboratory-reared corroboree frogs had been relocated into purpose-built enclosures, in a bid to increase the population of this endangered species. Miraculously, 40 of the 115 survived and the melted field cameras captured exactly what the frogs had endured.

02.01.2022 Researchers from the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute have received a share of $1.5 million from FightMND to further investigate the causes and treatments for motor neurone disease (MND). MND is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that causes motor neurons, the pathways between the brain and muscles, to degenerate and die. The disease develops when proteins in the body become misshapen, clump together, and block the pathways. MND is rapidly progressive and leaves patients with the inability to walk, talk and eventually breathe.

02.01.2022 Professor Sharon Robinson researches how Antarctic plants respond to climate change. She uses radiocarbon signatures, left behind in the atmosphere by nuclear testing, to date mosses and track environmental change around the coast of Antarctica.

He has developed a research program at UOW that has transformed our understanding of how bacteria copy and repair their DNA and the role these processes play in the development of drug resistance.
