25.01.2022 Youth Care UPA is a program managed by UPA Far North Coast to provide a quality out-of-home program, empowering children and young persons while creating opportunities for their future to enhance their quality of life. Have you considered becoming a foster carer? Youth Care UPA are recruiting potential Foster Carers from all walks of life. Carers make a significant difference to the lives of their foster children by providing them with a stable caring environment in which to live and thrive. 25.01.2022 Did you know our Foster carers are able to apply, if they wish, to become the child’s guardian until the child turns 18. This arrangement is decided by the court on the basis that there is sufficient evidence that the carer can meet the child’s needs without support from UPA Youth Care. Under guardianship, the child continue to have contact with their birth family and one of the important roles of the guardian is to promote this contact.

25.01.2022 Did you know volunteers are that amazing that a whole week is dedicated to celebrate them? Even though this celebratory week is held in May, we missed thanking our Home Care volunteers due to COVID-19... so our team members are thanking our Home Care volunteers with a beautiful hamper filled with lots of goodies as when possible. Our Home Care coordinator Michele recently presented one of these hampers to our dedicated volunteers on behalf of UPA North Coast.

13.01.2022 How did you celebrate Father's Day? Our Richmond Lodge resident David enjoying cooking up a storm with our staff member Lee. The food was delicious and was enjoyed by all the residents.

09.01.2022 Did you know Youth Care offers temporary care? Temporary care is also called short-term care and can range from an overnight stay up to 12-months. This type of care could be needed for a variety of reasons but the most common are: ... An emergency, eg illness or other family crisis. A young person chooses not to remain in the care of their birth family. Intervention by the NSW Department of Community Services, where a child is removed from their parents to ensure their safety and well-being.

This type of care provides short-term care, from overnights to a couple of nights, or up to a couple of weeks in some cases during school holidays. 08.01.2022 Our new therapy puppy, Max is cared for by one of the staff and comes to work with her everyday. Each morning our Richmond residents get very excited when they see max! Mardie was lucky enough to get lots of cuddles from Max on her birthday.

07.01.2022 In celebration of VP Days 75th anniversary our Greenhills resident Ron Sheppard was recently interviewed by an award-winning world news reporter, Stefan Armbruster, on his time at Hiroshima. Since the story went to air, Stefan informed Ron that his interview was the most popular story of the week. 06.01.2022 Celebrations were high as our Richmond Lodge team celebrated "Thank you for working in aged care day" with a special cake and morning tea. In what has been such a difficult year, we really wanted to acknowledge and celebrate all carers working in aged care.

Ron is 94 years young and went viral last year when we posted a post about him working weekly at a local butchery shop. Ron was recently interviewed as he was sent to Japan when he was a young man for clean up operations in Hiroshima after the atomic bomb was dropped on the city. ... 02.01.2022 Everyone at Rathgar lodge had a minute of silence on the 15th of August to celebrate VP day. This day marks 75 years since the end of WWII. Our resident Allison was an active serving member of the army during this time, she lost many close friends and spoke of this on the day. We would like to thank Bob McFarlane, one of our UPA volunteers and our Rathgar Lodge Auxiliary President, for coming in and conducting a service for us.
