23.01.2022 Anyone that works in aged care will be aware of the 'dreaded' food audits. To make life easier for the kitchen staff to remember important information, the Food Supervisor (and her 'hands on' assistant) produced this ditty direct from the kitchen, of the Jindera Gardens Aged Care Facility.

23.01.2022 Walking on Sunshine... With the weather beginning to warm up, and the sun brightening our days, the residents of Murray Vale Shalem have finally left the hostel for a much needed walk and breath of fresh air. Staff from the hostel and regional office, along with village residents take a relaxed walk through the Murray Vale village each morning (weather permitting, but so far its been kind)
22.01.2022 Years of Service awards were presented to Murray Vale Shalem and Community Care staff members yesterday, in a somewhat nontraditional celebration. No crowds were roaring with applause, no fancy sandwiches or delicious cup cakes.. Awards were presented by Riverina Murray's Regional Manager - Tony Dunn, for 5, 10, 15 and 3 x 30 years of service! (how fantastic is that!!) Such amazing dedication to UPA, and continued care of residents and consumers at Murray Vale Shalem and the local Lavington area. Once the awards were presented, pizza was on the menu. Doesn't appear that anyone missed the fancy afternoon tea or the audience
22.01.2022 With Covid-19 lockdowns of aged care facilities, no visitors, and boredom & isolation rife, a member of the CWA Pleasant Hills Riverina Group, Nett Maloney thought of a way to help ease the loneliness of our aged community. Together with President Lyn Jacobsen, and other club members, the ladies sent letters to various local businesses, requesting their support for care packages. Businesses quickly jumped on board donating items to be included in the packages. From Prima ...juice boxes, tissues and moisturisers to snacks, chocolates, puzzle books and journals. All donations were greatly appreciated! Since commencing the care package drive, more than 200 bags have been distributed to residents at various residential aged care facilities, and homes of elderly residents within the community. Those included were UPA’s Myoora Homestead & Village Henty, and today, the residents of Murray Vale Residential Aged Care Facility in Lavington. UPA Riverina Murray Region, would like to thank the CWA Pleasant Hills for their thoughtfulness during this difficult time, and the generosity of the companies who donated to the care packages. #woolworthsthurgoona #coleslavington #terrywhitechemartlavington #chemistwarehouselavington #blisshairandbeauty #officeworks #cwapleasanthills #covidcarepackages

18.01.2022 Myoora Residential Aged Care facility has been the lucky recipient of 3 iPads (currently on loan) from the Greater Hume Council to create and deliver innovative programs to assist older people connect with each other through online engagement or other methods that maintain social distancing. While use of technology to connect with families is nothing new to this intrepid group of residents, the opportunity to try something new has been welcomed. The iPads have been trialed w...ith a few games, used as a warm up. We await the training to support interaction with others outside their group. The funding for the iPads was awarded to the Greater Hume Council, who were one of 24 organisations to receive grants. The grants were available for organisations to create programs that foster social inclusion for seniors. Greater Hume Council have used the $22,860 funding to purchase 30 iPads to loan across the Shire to seniors who are aged 65 years and over, or 55 years and over for Aboriginal people. The NSW Government has awarded more than $700,000 in funding for projects that reduce social isolation for seniors during COVID-19. This includes $100,000 from the Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing (MACA) for projects that support their work plan.

13.01.2022 About a month or so ago, Murray Vale Shalem received an email from StageKings offering a donation of a brand new IsoKing Puzzle Board for our residents. Like a lot of people, we’ve been affected by not being able to see loved ones in Aged Care facilities at this time. So, we’ve been giving a lot of thought to what we can do to help. Considering in Victoria, and most of NSW it’s not possible to visit these facilities, we thought we’d donate 20 IsoKing Puzzle Boards to give ...our most vulnerable, and at the moment bored, relatives, an ergonomic solution to get into some puzzles to help take their minds off the situation, wrote Ro Eras of StageKings. So we put the puzzle board to the test and had our PuzzleKing , resident Cliff, to try it out. It’s certainly a winner! Thanks again to the crew @ www.stagekings.com.au/

08.01.2022 Recently, the Kinder and Year 2 class from St Johns Lutheran school in Jindera wrote some beautiful letters to the residents of Jindera Gardens Residential Aged Care facility. Unfortunately, most of the children have not had the opportunity to meet the residents this year due to the pandemic. Usually the school children would visit every other week, so the cards and letters they have received are a great way to help keep in contact with the community. The letters and cards certainly bring a smile to their faces and help to brighten their days. The residents also love to hear what the children have been up to as well. #stjohnslutheranschool
