24.01.2022 How does stage 4 affect your Podiatry care? - Face to face appointments are reserved for emergency treatments only. A condition that could escalate to hospitalization if not treated ... - Suspected infection - Severe and debilitating injury - We are still here to assist via telehealth appointments to help keep you moving
24.01.2022 Well see you soon _ 10 years ago 2 strangers from the burbs met for a pot and parma in St Kilda. Little did they know it would be the start of something special. A business, a partnership and a friendship. _ Today will be one of the toughest days weve faced. We have decided to close Up and Running Podiatry for at least the next 4 weeks. We understand this same advice is on its way from government, but we cant wait it out any longer. ... _ The safety or our team and our clients will always come first. You guys have spoken. The demand for a podiatry service beyond next week isnt there and we totally understand. We have moved all patients who need our care in the next 3 weeks to today. After today, Its time to stay home. _ The positives. Were young, were fit, were healthy. We will take this time to make Up and Running Podiatry the best possible version of itself. If you would like to share in that journey, you can still support us. Weve got the option of Telehealth consultations... more to come on that in a separate post. _ For now its THANK YOU and well come out the other side of this together See more

20.01.2022 A HUGE thank you to Ian Griffiths @sportspodiatryinfo for joining our team PD all the way from the UK! _ We discussed how the terms FLAT FEET KNOCK KNEES and ... INSET HIPS Are not accurate diagnoses and are rarely the cause of running related injuries. _ Ian coined the term COVerload and we love it! _ Since COVID-19 isolation we have seen a dramatic spike in running related injuries. _ Scientific research tells us that up to 80% of these injuries are due to overload ie. too much, too soon. _ Forget about your inserts or the heel drop of your shoe. Theres no substitute for incorrect training! _ Dont believe us? Then jump onto the @physicalperformanceshow and listen to episode 172 with Dr Stephen Siler, the pioneer of the polarised training method (80/20 training). See more

18.01.2022 THANK YOU Weve certainly been through a lot as a team and business since March this year. Its been extremely difficult on many fronts but we also acknowledge weve been very fortunate to keep the operation rolling along, like many havent been able to. Our heaviest blow was having our Altona North site shut down along with our partners Symmetry Physiotherapyand the BayFit Leisure Centre. Both have both been huge supporters of our brand. ... We would not have built the foundation in the west without Mark Round and the team at Symmetry and are extremely grateful for the opportunities they have provided us. With the uncertainty and despair looming, we reached out to a trusted local partner in Williamstown Health & Lifestyle for some help. Cliff Butler from the outset was empathetic, accommodating and flexible in providing us exactly what we needed to keep our head above water. Without this lifeline we simply would not have had the ability to achieve our dream of a stand-alone clinic in Williamstown, and are still finding it hard to believe it actually came together. Thank you to everyone who have backed Up and Running Podiatry over the years and to this day. There are still some bumps ahead, however were reassured the support around us and the strength within our team will ensure a bright and secure future.

12.01.2022 In light of the current development of COVID-19, tomorrows Wellness Day (Sunday 15 March, 2020) has been cancelled. While the individual activities are well below the social gathering limit of 500 as set by the Department of Health and Human Services, we want to put the health and safety of the community first. 12.01.2022 If there’s one thing outside of triathlon and podiatry that our directors are passionate about, it’s their business. _ Our clinics were rebranded in 2015 and @upandrunningpodiatry was established. We’ve had multiple sites & locations over the past 5 years, yet it’s the consolidation of these over past 12 months that we’re truely proud of. _ The addition of our ‘client experience team’ and the growth of the podiatry team to 5 means the business is in its strongest position y...et. _ Matt and Gary have embraced their role as coaches and mentors, thriving with the challenge of blooding the next generation of sports podiatrists. _ 2020 was a difficult yet extremely rewarding year, culminating with @upandrunningpodiatry winning the New Member of the Year at the @hivepractice awards. _ Congrats to all of our amazing team! 10.01.2022 A big thank you Williamstown Health & Lifestyle who played host to our business for the last 3 months! We tried to stay as close as possible!
10.01.2022 FLATTENING THE CURVE. Our social responsibility. _ The pressure for Australians and Victorians to stay home is increasing. We are acutely aware of this. _ We continue to source all the latest information from medical experts. That advice (to this point) is this. Health care workers deemed essential should stay open to help save lives. _... Yesterday our podiatry clinics performed 2 x onychocryptosis nail surgeries (ingrown toe nails with previous infection), we treated a diabetic foot ulceration, we saw multiple patients with comorbidities to help keep them active and healthy. _ By the end of the week we will have fitted new orthotics to a patient recovering from a collapsed lung and another who is a lung transplant recipient. _ We are not naive. These patients are in the extremely high risk category. They will stay in their car. They will not enter the clinic. We will organise billing over the phone and mail out orthotics where appropriate. Why? Because foot pain has plagued their recoveries and they need to move to stay alive. _ Stage 3 restrictions are coming. It is very likely we will he asked to close our doors at this time. We will do this! _ But for now our diaries remain busy. People need to see a podiatrist and we choose to be there form them. On the surface it might seem like were not doing our bit, but by reducing the burden on the public health system, I can assure you WE ARE.
10.01.2022 Training = Workout + Recovery Thanks to Coach Chris from GoRun Australia for letting us share his thoughts about training and recovery. Check out a recent article for his runners in the GoRun group below: "I'm borrowing this little gem from Dr Phil Maffetone, who often writes about health and endurance sports. To me, the value of this equation cannot be understated. So many runners or athletes only look at one part, the workout. They hit the treadmill, trails or track ever...y day, stacking up the km's on Strava as they go. Don't get me wrong, working out is addictive and recovery, lets face it, can be kind of boring, but recovery is where the magic and the adaptations to your body happen. Recovery allows you to keep doing the fun workouts. This equation simply shows that if you aren't recovering, then you aren't training. Yep, it's that important. So what does recovery look like for someone training for a longer event such as a half, full or ultra marathon? Well, you are going to be putting your body through more than normal, so it will need more than normal recovery. After those long runs or tough sessions, you are likely to be tired, possibly depleted of nutrients and your muscles might feel sore, so taking care of your body becomes doubly important. That care comes in the form of more sleep and rest, but also more help for those aching muscles in the form of massage, rolling and stretching. Good planning of your routine should include strategically placed days of total rest and lighter recovery days, where the aim is just to get the body moving again. Remember, you can not finish the race if you don't make it to the start line, so getting on top your recovery in order to avoid injury, particularly in the last few weeks of your training becomes really important in just getting to your start line. You can check out GoRun and their training plans here: www.gorun.com.au

06.01.2022 How far from home can you exercise in Melbourne? Thanks to our friends at GoRun Australia for the detailed info. ... Please read this clarification regarding what you are / are not allowed to do in terms of travelling for exercise if you are based in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire at the moment. Basically, you are not allowed to stray from home to do exercise. Anyone who does, faces a hefty fine. No more long bike rides to Beach Rd to stay fit, no more running around The Tan if you live three suburbs away. Here are the rules: Locked-down Victorians will be fined $1652 for travelling out of their neighbourhood to exercise. In a significant shift, the state government has issued clarified advice which explicitly limits where people can pursue outdoor recreational activities such as walking, jogging, cycling, playing golf and fishing. Here is what you need to know: WHERE YOU CAN AND CANT GO TO EXERCISE: Q. What is the updated advice? Victorians in lockdown areas metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire must exercise and shop as close to home as possible. Q. My favourite coffee shop is three suburbs away. Can I go there? No. You should go to the one closest to your home. Q. I live in Spotswood but go walking around the Tan because I feel safe there. Can I continue to do that? No. You should go walking at your nearest safe place. Q. I am a member of a golf course 15km away but there is a public course around the corner from my house. Where am I allowed to play? If you are a member of a sporting club, you can attend. This does not apply if it involves entering regional Victoria from Melbourne. Q. I live in Coburg but I love exercising around the Botanical Gardens. Is this OK? No. You should exercise in the park closest to your home. Q. I want to take the kids to the next suburb for a bike ride. Can I drive there and then go riding? No. You should bike ride at the closest available location to your home. Q. Ive been looking forward to doing the Bay Trail bike ride but I live in Mulgrave. Can I drive my car down to hit the trail? No. You should go to your closest bike trail. Cyclists are no longer allowed to take long rides around Melbourne to stay fit, even if they dont get off their bike to stop for a coffee. The State Government says you must ride as close to home as possible. Q. How far away from my house can I ride my bike, power walk, jog or run? You should show common sense and go the minimum distance to achieve your exercise needs.
