17.01.2022 A history lesson, on pallets The humble pallet is said to have been invented way back in the 1930s. Forget the flapper dress, where would we be without pallets?? Carrying bricks one at a time,.forget that. Our friend the pallet came about first in the 1920s as a sled of sorts, being lifted by a single platform lifter. It was later in the 30s that the central stringer and bottom deck pallet was designed. At the same time, the trucks used to move the pallets evolved. Now w...ith tusk like appendages the forklift, as we know it came to be. By reducing the width of the pallet, adding the central support, and using forklifts the pallets could then be reduced in width and be made using thinner planks. End result; a lower cost pallet. So which came first, pallet or forklift? A bit like the chicken or the egg, no one is really sure. But either way, the forklift, and the pallet are certainly inventions worthy of admiration.
