24.01.2022 Depending on the amount of energy and enthusiasm we bring to the mat, our balance is going to shift from day to day. A bad night's sleep (hello early motherhood) an agitated mindset (hello all stages of motherhood) are all things that can easily affect the practice of balancing. Read on for my top tips for enjoying your balancing practice - and let me know if there are any specific balancing postures you would like help with! https://www.updogyogamamas.com//the-magical-balancing-act-

24.01.2022 Yoga can absolutely help with maternal mental health. There’s research after study after peer reviewed publication proving this. BUT it’s not the only thing that’s going to help and it’s probably not the active, hot yoga style that’s going to do the trick either. It’s the slow moving, deep breathing, listen to your thoughts kind that’s going to make a change in your nervous system. It’s the repetition of practice that’s going to make a difference in those spiralling, heated... moments when you need your #pranayama practice just kicks in. BUT it’s not going to be the only thing that moves the mark towards a healthy mind. It’s the combination of seeking out support, keeping up connections and fuelling your mind and body with nourishment that’s going to move the mark. . . As a yoga teacher, I wanted yoga to be my cure all. And I sure tried to make it so. But it wasn’t. It was admitting that I didn’t feel right then utilising the combination of it all that brought healing. . . Yoga is amazing and I believe in its powers, but it’s not the end all be all. Remember you can ask for help mama, and remember you’re not alone. #updogyogamamas #mentalhealthawarenessweek #maternalmentalhealth #postnatalyoga #postnatalanxiety #postnatalanxietyawareness #yoga4mentalwellness #reachoutforhelp #postnataldepletion See more

19.01.2022 #liveingratitudeweek Day 3: mamas of the world How great are #mamas? I have a fantastic relationship with my mama and am so thankful for that relationship. She was here for each of my births and was so essential in caring for all of us during those times. She’s my first call, whether it be for a baking question, advice on the kids or career advice she’s my first call. I love that about mamas, they always seem to know what to say or not say and can always provide that sense o...f home. I’m so #grateful for her, for her advice and to be able to call her my #mama. I’m also incredibly thankful for the mamas in my #mothersgroup. I joined this group when Finn was a little baby, and these women have been such a strong support in my life ever sense. We might not all be best friends, but we all have a sense of understanding for where the other is at in life and I have found that so helpful in this chapter of life. Mamas are amazing, they bring life into the world. They can sustain and nurture that life and then amazingly evolve their relationship to continue loving that life how that person needs. Let’s #givethanks for the mamas in our lives today, from those who gave you life to those who guide you through life let’s say #Thankyou.

17.01.2022 It’s #Thanksgiving this week in America and the in me feels it’s the perfect excuse to practice gratitude (and eat a feast). So, I invite you this week to live in gratitude each day with me! Each day I’ll share a category for us to find gratitude in with #liveingratitudeweek. I’ll share what I’m #thankful for, and encourage you to find something to be thankful for on that day. Together we will share a week of giving thanks for all the good we have in our lives and all tha...t makes each of us, us. Join in each day by sharing your gratitude photo with #liveingratitudeweek or enjoy a quiet #journal practice at home. My hope is by the end of the week we’ve shed light on all the love we have in our lives and given light to our little corner of @instagram. Stay tuned for today’s gratitude category coming up next! #givethanks #gratitudeisthebestattitude #practicegratitude #liveinlight #updogyogamamas #gratitude #thankful #instagramchallenge See more

17.01.2022 #liveingratitudeweek Day 2: support crew! I’m shouting it out from the rooftops that I’m grateful for my husband, partner and co-parent: Timo. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork. As I mentioned yesterday we’re an international family without any family support in Australia, so we’ve got to have each other’s back to keep this family ship sailing smoothly. We’ve had to make some difficult decisions this year for our family, had to realise how far away we truly are from our parents, and... felt the challenges of having 2 under 3....but I never once felt alone in any of these. Sometimes we drive each other mental because it can feel too much to be each other’s only family on this island nation, but I always know he’s got my back and I’ll never have to go at it alone. Im grateful for that sense of support and that sense of belonging. Ok enough gushing from me, over to you all to share your #gratitude towards your support person/system/team. #husbandlove #supportcrew #myperson #thankfulforhim #updogyogamamas #iamthankfulfor #morningmeditation #internationalfamily See more

17.01.2022 Those little baby Sharing your #yogapractice and your yoga space with little ones isn’t always cute and instagram worthy - but such is #parenthood. However, I have found sharing the practice of yoga with my little ones to be oh so special My 1 year old is still getting used to yoga time - she would rather be outside moving rocks #itsaphase. But I can attest that the repeat of exposure does wear off on them. My 3 year old will practice with me about once a week ...and loves to show me any of his new and improved moves. We are still working on getting that deep breathing happening during tantrums tho #arentweall. I’m sharing all of this to say, remember that parenthood is messy, so sharing your #yogatime with kids will probably be messy too...and that’s OK. Create time for your own practice when you can and share #yoga with them when they want. I’ll be posting more here and updogyogamamas.com on tips to share your practice and create your #yogaspace in the coming days. Until then, embrace the mess and enjoy the memories in the making. #yogawithkids #mamababyyoga #yogaformoms #babyfootprints #motherhood #yogamama #updogyogamamas #yogawebsite #onlineyogaclasses See more

17.01.2022 In light of #MentalHealthAwareness week here in Queensland I wanted to shed some light on maternal mental health and highlight some ways that can help mamas to get mentally healthy. My latest post on www.updogyogamamas.com covers what I like to think of as a scale for maternal mental health, begining with Baby Blues and sliding up to Postnatal Depression. Inside Mental Health for Mamas, you will read a few snippets from my own journey, but because I truly believe sharing is caring I will be sharing more of my own #maternalmentalhealth journey on updogyogamamas.com in the coming days. #sharingiscaring #mothercare #postnataldepletion #knowledgeispower

11.01.2022 Today our family is proudly wearing pink for #breastcancerawareness Both of Leona and Finn’s grandmamas are #breascancersurvivors and we couldn’t imagine a world without either of them. In Australia this year, it’s estimated there will be just under 20k new cases diagnosed - there’s still plenty of work to be done to find a cure! We’re more than thankful for how far #breastcancer research has come and are hopeful that a cure is found in our children’s lifetime.#cancersucks #checkyourboobies #breastcancerawarenessmonth #wearpink #pinkribbon #pinkforbreastcancer #welovegrammy #welovemummo

11.01.2022 Balancing while preggos- should you, shouldn’t you? I say YES! But with support . . As with all elements of a yoga practice in pregnancy, it’s a time to accept support from props and check in with your ego. Ask yourself why are you wanting to practice a certain balancing posture, and how does it make you and your baby feel during and after. Utilise the wall, a chair and blocks when practicing a balance. Even if you think you don’t need a prop, I always suggest having one c...lose by in case you start to lose your balance. Babies move around in that belly, so maintaining a balancing posture can be a bit harder and long holds are not necessary/can cause discomfort. My last #hottip, but certainly not least: don’t practice new arm balancing postures. A rule of thumb in pregnancy fitness, if you weren’t doing it before you were don’t start it while you’re . . . Got any other #prenatalyoga questions? Ask away in the comments or shoot me a DM. I’m certified and passionate about making sure pregnant mamas continue to enjoy their #yogapractice whole #pregnant. #prenatalyogateacher #onlineprenatalyoga #onlineprenatalclasses #updogyogamamas #yogaondemand #onlineyoga #yogaathome See more

09.01.2022 #liveingratitudeweek Day 4: Local or Seasonal Food Such a simple thing to be thankful for but such a #blessing to have yummy food on your table. And for the Americans reading this it’s soon the be #Thanksgiving feasting time with all kinds of delicious dishes to give thanks for. In Queensland, Australia its #mango season, and these mangoes are pure magic. They are edible gold. They are not here year round; only when they are in season during the hotter months of the year and... my entire family can’t get enough of them. Their limited availability makes giving them thanksgiving all the more easier and worthwhile. I am so thankful to live in a place that grows such yummy produce. And that’s what’s amazing about a gratitude practice. You start in one place: giving thanks to a simple fruit and then you grow that gratitude to the land in which you live and the people you get to share that amazing food and land with. Give some thanks to your favourite foods today and allow that thanks to grow as far as it needs. #gratitudepractice #dailymeditation #mango #queenslandmangoes #localproduce #thankfulforfood #magicmangoes #thisisqueensland

06.01.2022 Give yourself these 40 seconds of stillness, Mama. Sit back | Relax | Listen to the waves Still with me? Take some slow, deep breaths. Let those shoulders melt away from your ears, allow your spine to be long but your belly to be soft. Still with me? Quiet your mind, still your body for just a little bit longer. Allow your breath to sink just a little bit lower. If you’re still with me and you’ve still got time, close those eyes on down. And let yourself drift away for as long as you can. Don’t worry a child will be there to pull you back to shore when it’s time #mondaymeditation #waves #remindertobreathe #mamameditation #updogyogamamas #mentalhealth

05.01.2022 Building on from last week's post about the physical act of balancing on the mat, how about creating a balanced life off of the mat? In my latest post, The Magical Balancing Act Part 2, I share my mindset on balance in early motherhood. Spoiler alert, I don't believe it's meant to be a balanced time of life. Some will agree and some won't...and I am Ok with that. What's most important is that each mother can choose how she wants to navigate her early motherhood years, without any societal pressure influencing her to be an imaginary superwoman. 04.01.2022 Proof that Leona likes some #babyyoga...when she’s up for it Yesterday I published a new class on updogyogamamas.com, that features a little bit of Leona and a lotta bit of my baby bear model. 04.01.2022 #liveingratitudeweek Day 1: Family! For me specifically I’m going to call out my kids. . . I’m so insanely grateful for these two nutters, I struggle to find the words. I love them like I love no one else, it’s truly unconditional...even when I wake up to sprinkles all over the floor . I always wanted to have my own family, but for many years I never thought I would have one. I allowed myself to believe I was too broken or too complicated. (boy did I need a gratitude practi...ce in those years!) My family set up is way different than I ever imagined, in a country far away from where I grew up with a husband equally as far from home. We do life on our own terms, and are super curious what accent our German, American little Aussies are going to come out with. I’m so lucky to be your mama and so thankful to love you Finn and Leona. . . Give thanks to your kids or family today with #liveingratitudeweek. Let’s light up our corner of @instagram with #thanksgiving . See more

02.01.2022 Someone snuck out of their nap and into my yoga practice...and his name is Finn! I’ve been hearing from some #updogyogamamas that they are struggling to get in #yogaathome with an active little one around & I do totally feel you. So here are some tips on practicing at home with your toddler in tow: Try to include them in the practice. Ask if they want to try the pose out or if they can show you a pose. Count out your breaths and holds, etc. I personally aim for practici...ng during nap times but if that’s not an option try practicing during a typically happy/quiet/independent playtime of the day. Have 3 time windows in your day for yoga. That way if the first window doesn’t works out, you’ve got a Plan B and a Plan C. Go with the flow, in more ways than yoga As with all parts of #mumlife, we might have one plan but the kiddos very often have another. Vinyasa class becomes a cuddle yin class, quiet restorative class becomes yoga animal shapes time. . . #updogyogamamas is here to make yoga more accessible for #momlife. I’m always here for tips and tricks and of course, #ondemandyoga classes. #yogawithtoddlers #yogaformoms #yogamamas #yogawhenyoucan #yogatips See more

02.01.2022 #liveingratitudeweek Day 5: where you live/how you live Building on from yesterday, and expanding the #gratitude bubble to where we live and how we live, I’m so grateful to live in beautIful #Queensland with my beautiful family of + . Since stepping foot in #Australia, I’ve never lived in any other state. While there are other stunning places to be I really love where we’ve decided to set up shop. We’ve had the good fortune to call the #SunshineCoast, #Brisbane a...nd now the #GoldCoast all home - and these are where some of the most beautiful places in the world reside. Our new home has room to breath, kangaroos hopping around, a col de sac for the kids to ride bikes in and most importantly a playroom for the kids toys to live #serenitynow. The Gold Coast is an amazing play ground to raise my children in and a great backdrop for me to continue to grow my thinking, my love and hopefully my business in. Of course when I think of where I live, I do think of who isn’t here. Our family and some our closest friends. This is a hard year for those of us who live abroad from our families. We are so far away, and have no idea when we will see each other again. I can easily drown in the sadness of that thought. #2020problems So instead I choose a #gratitudepractice for where I am now, and encourage you to do the same for whatever circumstance 2020 has given you. #Givethanks to your house, to your state to the nature or infrastructure surrounds you. I’m willing to bet most of you reading this post are #blessed beyond measure and have so much to be #thankful for in where you live. #lovewhereyoulive #lovewhoyoulivewith #gratitudeforhome #iamthankfulfor #updogyogamamas #dailygratitude

01.01.2022 Not an easy post to share, and honestly not one I'd ever thought I would be sharing. I always thought I was mentally strong, but that's part of the issue isn't it? Maternal Mental Health conditions can affect anyone, and by sharing my story I hope to help other mamas recognize the signs early and know that it is OK to ask for help. #qmhw #maternalmentalhealth #postnatalanxiety #mystory Beyond Blue Queensland Mental Health Week
