21.01.2022 YOU CANT OUT RUN A BAD DIET!! ....this is just one of the messages I share at my health and fitness retreats. It doesnt matter whether you want to lose w...eight, improve your fitness or generally just get healthier...you cant compensate for poor nutrition choices no matter how much exercise you do. 20.01.2022 Out in the city today...and got to see the windows filled with Christmas decorations! This got me thinking about how much our environment influences our think...ing. And how our interpretation of the environment influences our individual state, ill explain what I mean! What you see, hear, taste, smell and touch all make up your environment. For me today, I got to see Christmas decorations. This made me think of family, summer holidays and Christmas carols and it made me want to exercise, shop for presents and organise my festive season break activities. I felt happy because I love Christmas and I have wonderful memories of Christmas time. If I had a goal to exercise, do some Christmas shopping and organise my calendar for the festive season, then this would have been a really resourceful environment to place myself in to achieve these outcomes. Sometimes the environment can have such a positive influence on you, like when you go on a holiday and have an experience of living in a culture that you just fall in love with it, that it can leave an imprint on you and you bring home with you certain aspects of that culture. It might be a foreign word you continue to use, a style of cooking you continue to use, a hobby you continue or even a way of thinking. Your environment can have a profound effect on your health and fitness outcomes because it can influence your behaviour and can change the way you think or do things both in the short term and long term. There are certain environments that will encourage the behaviour in you that will mean you can achieve your health and fitness goals. Reflecting on my week this morning and the great conversations I’ve had with clients and women over the phone who want to do something good for ...themselves by joining me on our next retreat...one thing I share with them all is the importance of their mindset when it comes to creating a better result... Trying to do a new behaviour like more regular exercise, eating better, treating yourself with more kindness can feel like paddling upstream on a fast flowing river if you haven’t shifted something within your mindset first. It can feel like hard work, your effort may not actually get you anywhere and you feel exhausted. To shift your mindset sometimes you need to take a little time out, step away from your ‘normal’ and take stock of who you are, what you want and what is important to you. 19.01.2022 FESTIVE SEASON TIP ...to look better and feel better! ....if you're wanting to eliminate a food from your nutrition for whatever reason... to lose weight,... to have more energy, reduce bloating, improve health...it is a good idea to not only recognise what you want to remove but also identify what you will replace that food or drink with. Our brain works in a way that we don't like having 'gaps'. Our brain searches for what is missing and aims to fill in the blank space. Our brains are problem solvers and solution finders and when there is nothing to replace a unwanted food or drink with your brain will keep searching for something until it does find something. If you don't have an ideal alternative in mind then you will likely find yourself reaching for the thing you're trying to avoid. So here's what you need to do: 1Acknowledge your reason why 2Identify the specific food or beverage you want to minimise or eliminate. 3Choose your timeframe - how long do you want to apply this (if not always) 4Find a replacement. Here are some tips: For alcohol - Sparkling water For sweet foods - Berry fruits like strawberries, blueberries For salty/savoury - Handful of nuts or roasted vege with some good Himalayan Rock Salt 5 Remove the food or drink you no longer want to consume from your home! 03.01.2022 Sometimes you just have one of those days!! When even the best of intentions and the best plans still dont get you the outcome you wanted! Today I had one of... those days...which is also why Im writing this post so late ! No workout for me today but I still ate well and I was passively active (thats what running around after twin 1yr olds will do for you! ) When you have one of those days, the best thing you can do is... Let go of any thoughts of how you could have done it differently...you didnt and thats ok. Accept that today doesnt need to affect tomorrow, draw a line in the sand, tomorrow is a new day with new opportunities. Find the good or benefit in what you did do today...reframe the experience, acknowledge the experience and forgive yourself for any guilt or judgement you may have inflicted on yourself. Have a good nights rest and start the day fresh tomorrow! Good night! PS this is what I did do today...we played with the sand in the pot plant outside!! Some may have ended up in the their mouth!!
03.01.2022 This morning I was pretty short on time for my workout...I had 30 mins exactly from start to finish. I normally like to have 45min-60mins to do my workout but t...his morning it didn't happen. So....rather than giving up on my workout all together, I simply made my 30 mins a far more intense workout...getting close to the same amount into my workout but in less time. The result....great workout, felt good, was proud that I did something and boosted my fitness by running about 20sec faster per km than I normally would...doesn't sound like much of a difference on paper but I can promise you my heart rate and my calves felt the difference!! So in the festive season, when your diary may be a little 'fuller' than normal, remember you don't need a lot of time to make it an effective workout. Get in, get it done, then go party!
02.01.2022 I've been speaking to so many women recently who are either stressed, exhausted or lost. Stressed by the pressures and responsibilities they face, exhausted by ...the inability to stop and lost because they aren't even sure who they are anymore. This makes me sad. To know that so many women live with an experience of life that isn't fulfilling, enjoyable or inspiring. I have recently been reminded that life is short and it is so so precious. Each day is worthwhile. The truth is that the way we experience our life is actually very much in our own hands. It can seem so very often that the twists and turns that life takes us on are out of our control, but what IS within your control is how you perceive them and that has the greatest impact on how your life plays out. When you're feeling stressed you can choose to take control and find your certainty. When you're feeling exhausted you can choose to rest and recover. When you're feeling lost you can choose to find yourself and explore what is important to you. THE QUESTION IS WILL YOU? Will you give yourself permission to seek those better outcomes? It sounds crazy but often we are drawn to the feelings of being stressed, exhausted or lost because it is familiar and therefore it feels safer than the alternative which is unknown. The challenge is that there is no letting up from feeling stressed, exhausted or lost until you choose to do something about it. So you can either choose to stay the same and comfortable but have more of the negatives experiences OR you can choose to do something about, embrace a little uncertainty as you embark upon your journey but ultimately land in a place with greater confidence, calm, happiness, energy, health, love and certainty within yourself. 01.01.2022 We moved house last weekend...which is why you haven't heard from me much this past week...but we're into our new place now and slowly unpacking! The girls show...ed us some good lessons in innovative play during the move...while their toys were packed away, they made do with what was left - the furniture. This chair became a great vehicle zooming around the living area. LESSON: if you can't do what you intended or what you normally do, find another way!
