25.01.2022 Fire restrictions are coming! There are suggestions that we may have restrictions in place by mid December (TBC). This means that you need to complete you fuel reduction burns and property cleanup soon. If you are burning off please do so safely and consider whether the weather conditions are appropriate. We have attended a number of burn offs that have gotten away or flared up days later with windy conditions. The council has one more free green waste drop off weekend at Lysterfield tip in early December for residents to take advantage of if you don’t feel comfortable burning off

24.01.2022 Today we mark one year since the start of the devastating bushfires which deeply affected Victorian communities across the state. On 21 November, 2019 the first... ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland that started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months. Today we reflect on the devastation and challenges that followed 21 November and the incredible support from all emergency services who came together to aid the communities impacted by the unprecedented fire season. 23.01.2022 As we prepare to say goodbye to 2020, we ask everyone to please bring in the New Year safely by celebrating without illegal fireworks. With the grass drying out illegal fireworks present a high risk of starting dangerous grass fires or causing serious injury to yourself or others. We are sure you don’t want your New Years celebrations interrupted by the arrival of your local fire brigade and Victoria Police with the possibility of hefty fines and/or criminal charges that coul...d result in jail time. If fireworks are a key element of your New Years celebrations we encourage you to attend official community events hosted by licensed and approved pyrotechnicians. Please enjoy the New Years festivities safely, remember to look out for each other and your community. If you believe there is a potential risk to people, property or the community as a result of illegal fireworks please call 000 immediately. Have a safe and Happy New Year

22.01.2022 Tomorrow (Sunday 15th Nov) is the first day this season that the fire danger rating has moved off Low/Moderate (Green) to High (Blue) for our Central fire district. It is also a day of total fire ban in the Mallee fire district. This is your cue to tell you that summer and fire restrictions aren't too far away and if you haven't already, its time to prepare your property.... The fire danger rating will fluctuate throughout summer pending the relevant conditions in each fire district. Residents living in high risk areas should be aware of the daily rating in their area and it should also form part of their overall fire plan and be a trigger for decision making. You can check the daily fire danger rating on our Facebook page under the Fire Danger Ratings tab or on the CFA webpage here; https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-r/central-fire-district

15.01.2022 A year ago today, fires were ravaging parts of East Gippsland and the North East of the state. The destruction these fires caused for our communities is still f...elt by many to this day. It’s been an incredibly challenging year for everyone. From fires, to COVID and everything in between, our volunteers and communities have shown their resilience and spirit. We wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy New Year. ------- CFA Wellbeing Support Line - 1800 959 232 Lifeline 13 11 14

15.01.2022 Today marks the 38-year anniversary of the devastating Ash Wednesday bushfires that occurred on February 16, 1983 Ash Wednesday is a day that we will never forget. A tragic day where 75 people died in ferocious bushfires across South Australia and Victoria. In Upper Beaconsfield alone, 21 lives were lost. 176 of the then 230 homes were destroyed (by comparison there are over 1,100 homes now), 92 sq kms burnt, 500 kms of fencing lost and approximately 1,000 cattle/sheep lost.... 12 of those who perished in Upper Beaconsfield were volunteer fire fighters from the Narre Warren Fire Brigade CFA and Panton Hill CFA fire brigades who were working on a steep ridge in Critchley Parker Jnr Reserve near St Georges Rd when the wind change came through just before 9pm. Nearby localities including Guys Hill, Dewhurst, Belgrave South, Belgrave Heights, Narre Warren East and Cockatoo were also hit hard with many homes destroyed and the loss of a further 6 lives lost at the Cockatoo fire including one volunteer fire fighter from the Nar Nar Goon Fire Brigade - CFA fire brigade. Our thoughts are with the families and friends who lost loved ones on this day along with the many other residents and emergency workers who were deeply affected, many who still bear the scars and pain from the events of that devistating day 38 years ago. May those gone rest in peace and never be forgotton Please pause and take a minute to reflect at 8.50pm tonight

14.01.2022 Checking in on our community....R U ok? These are difficult times so be sure to check on family, friends and neighbors.

14.01.2022 This New Year's Eve, don't let your celebrations put your community at risk. With many official displays now cancelled, we urge you to avoid the dangers of illegal fireworks. Don't ruin the party by letting your fireworks become a grass or bush fire. We want everyone to have a good time but please do it safely. Happy New Year

11.01.2022 Today, 12 years on we remember those who lost their lives and made the ultimate sacrifice in the Black Saturday Bushfires. So many lives affected and changed forever. Rest In Peace

11.01.2022 Just after midday today the brigade was called to a very difficult to access grass & scrub fire on private property in Foott Rd Upper Beaconsfield. A tanker relay was set up to supply water and a number of lines were used to run approx 200m down hill to enable fire suppression operations to occur. Our fire fighters worked very hard in challenging weather conditions and terrain to bring the fire under control which was the result of a previous burn off flaring up with the strong winds. Thanks to Beaconsfield Fire Brigade - CFA, Narre Warren North Fire Brigade CFA, Narre Warren East CFA, Emerald Fire Brigade (CFA), Belgrave South Fire Brigade, CFA Cardinia Group & Fire Rescue Victoria Pumper 93

08.01.2022 With the weather warming up many residents will be preparing their properties and burning off accumulated green waste in preparation for the upcoming fire season. Whilst we encourage residents to reduce overall fuel loads and hazards safely on their own properties, we also ask that they familiarise themselves with the Shire's open air burning policy and bylaws around what day you can burn off (dependent on your property size - refer table below). Note there is no burning off ...permitted on Sundays on any property size. If you don't want these at your place follow these simple rules; * Register your burn off with ESTA on 1800 668 511 * Only burn off when it is safe to do so * Never burn off on windy days * Ensure you have adequate water on hand to extinguish your burn off * Never leave a going fire unattended If you don't wish to burn off, the Cardinia council are again offering 2 free green waste drop off weekends for Shire residents. Click on the following link for more detail https://www.cardinia.vic.gov.au//r/481/waste_drop-off_days

08.01.2022 Have you been burning off or had a fire pit going outside in the last couple of days? Have you checked and completely extinguished your fire. With the strong winds, fires that have not been completely extinguished with water can easily reignite and very quickly get out of control. Never burn off on windy days.

08.01.2022 UPDATE 2.07pm -THE FIRE IS NOW CONTAINED There is currently a grass and scrub fire in Burke’s Creek Rd Dewhurst near Chambers Reserve with 10 tankers attending. The fire is not yet under control. There is currently no threat to Upper Beaconsfield. Residents residing near the incident should remain vigilant and monitor ongoing developments.

06.01.2022 Today Victoria is set to face sweltering heat which means a busy day for our crews on the road and in the air. You can help us by staying cool and out of the sun. Handy numbers to have

06.01.2022 Today’s Fire Danger Rating for the Central Fire District is Very High. Stay informed and prepared.

06.01.2022 As summer approaches, now is the time to prepare and #getFireReady. Be sure to download the Vic Emergency App on your smart phone or tablet to have all the latest warnings and incident information at your fingertips. This is an essential tool for those living in high risk areas. The app can be tailored to create watch zones relevant to your home location and other places you frequently visit. 1. Download the Vic Emergency App from the App store or Play Store... 2. Create a login and password 3. Login and set up a new watch zone 4. Either use your exact residential address or just type Beaconsfield Upper as the origin of the watch zone 5. Choose a watch radius for receiving notifications. We recommend a minimum of 5km but 10km is probably better. Remember the larger your radius, the more notifications it will pick up in that search area (even those outside of Upper Beac) and the more notice you may have of any impending incident or occurring event. 6. Hit the next button and give your new watch zone a relevant name (you can have multiple watch zones in different locations if you like) 7. Scroll down to the incidents heading and under the Fire Tab, we recommend that you turn on the All fire Incidents tab as a minimum. 8. Customise and choose which other categories/notifications you wish to receive (as a general rule we don’t get too many shark sightings or tsunamis in Upper Beac so you can probably leave those ones turned off ) 9. If you find you are receiving too many or not enough notifications you can increase/decrease your watch radius or turn on/off some of the incident notifications Don't hesitate to contact us at the brigade if you need assistance. Stay Safe

06.01.2022 For all our friends with horses, this 'Horses & Fire" Webinar may be of interest to you. It is open to members of the general public. Details below.

03.01.2022 Change your clock + check your smoke alarm! As we move our clocks forward this Sunday, how about checking your smoke alarms? These pesky things that beep, go off unexpectedly, don't match our decor, also save lives. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/fires-in-the-home
