20.01.2022 Tap water not running clear? 1. If it's white or ‘cloudy’ could be air in the water. Fill a glass and let sit for 5 mins, the air should dissipate and water turn clear. 2. If your tap runs ‘dirty’, could be a dislodgement of sediment in the pipes. Run the tap for a few minutes and the water should clear. 3. If water quality issues persist, contact Council on 6540 1100 with your address, so officers can investigate the network in your area. If the network is fine, you may have an internal plumbing issue and should contact a licenced plumber.

08.01.2022 WORKS BEGIN TO REPLACE OMADALE BROOK BRIDGE A new 42 metre long, dual lane, concrete bridge will replace the existing timber bridge providing increased load capacity to 68 tonnes and a safer passage over the brook. The new bridge will be built in the same position as the timber bridge, so a temporary all-weather side track with B-double capacity has been constructed adjacent to the bridge to detour traffic around the construction. The side-track has been sealed.... As the side track has a 40kmph speed limit and is a single lane crossing over the brook, drivers are asked to slow down and to exercise patience through the construction period. The timber bridge is being demolished in early September, followed by construction of the new bridge - planned for completion by the end of 2020. The project is funded with $1.847 million provided by the NSW Governments Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads program and $70,000 provided by Upper Hunter Shire Council, which is delivering the works. Council awarded the tender for the demolition of the old bridge and construction of the new bridge to Waeger Constructions Pty Ltd of Rutherford in April. Council will construct new road approaches to the bridge.

07.01.2022 Expect some heavy traffic at Aberdeen Reserve due to earth works to prevent Hunter River erosion. Gully stabilisation will be underway near St Andrews Reserve, Aberdeen for approximately two months from 21 September 2020. Work hours will be between 7am and 5pm, Mondays to Fridays and no weekend works are anticipated. The works at the southern end next to the Hunter River will include site mobilisation, vegetation clearing, earthworks, delivery and placement of large rock an...d demobilisation, including revegetation of disturbed areas with native seeds and riparian vegetation where possible. The gully, which joins an outside bend of the Hunter River, is a natural stormwater drainage channel for a large portion of the Aberdeen township and has eroded over time. The erosion will likely worsen if not addressed, threatening property and Council infrastructure. This is a joint project funded by Council and Local Land Services. Soil Conservation Service have been contracted to design and construct the works. There will be increased traffic movements on local roads, including heavy vehicles, floating heavy plant and delivery of large quantities of rocks and boulders. Primary access to the site will be via Perth St and Segenhoe St, from the New England Highway (see attached map). Residents and visitors are asked to follow advice of any signage and barricading, and to not enter works area. Neighbouring properties and St Josephs Aberdeen are being advised by letter box drop. Once the work is completed, Council Parks and Gardens staff will undertake ongoing vegetation management in the area. Please contact Council on 6540 1100 for questions relating to these works. The contact information for any emergencies or issues during works will be posted on site signage.

04.01.2022 Scone Gymnastics Centre has had a $164,370 upgrade funded from the NSW Governments Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF). It was opened today by Michael Johnsen MP - Nationals Member for Upper Hunter, Mayor Maurice Collison, and reps from Scone Gymnastics Club and Scone Youth Centre, the main users of the space. The upgrade is expected to attract other fitness users, including seniors groups, to use the facility. "This funding of the Gymnastics Centre is great news for ...Scone, and I know it will be made good use of by our local community, Mr Johnsen said. Mr Johnsen said the Stronger Country Communities Fund has over the years already delivered much-needed infrastructure for Upper Hunter. Other Upper Hunter Shire projects funded under SCCF (round 2) upgrades are: Merriwa Showground, Merriwa Oval, Merriwa Skate Park, Scone Field, Harrison Oval, Jefferson Park and Wilson Memorial Oval. Amaroo Park toilets have been completed. Projects from SCCF (round 3) due to be completed later this year or in 2021 are Murrurundi skate park and learn to ride track, Bill Rose netball courts, Merriwa CBD Revitalisation and McKinnon Oval. Mayor Collison thanked the NSW Government for the funding. We love our sports and it is fantastic to have great local facilities so people dont have to travel long distances to exercise, play and cheer, he said. The gymnastics centre project included removing all the asbestos, putting in a new floor, lining inside and outside walls, new windows, efficient LED lights, an accessible bathroom, kitchen, entrance foyer, new storage room, and a new accessible entrance and path at the back. The work was undertaken by Council staff and local contractors and suppliers (Bailey Plumbing & Gas Services, Brooks Bros Engineering, Country Carpets, Faulkner Electrical, Geoff Eveleigh Plumbing, No Bull Building, Allday Concreting, Our Town Fencing, PB Eveleigh Plan Service, Paint Place Scone, Saw Building, Scone Temporary Fencing and Scone Landscaping Supplies. Head coach of Scone Gymnastics, Nicky Western said, We cannot thank Council and the State Government enough for the work completed at the youth centre. These upgrades have enabled the club to use the entire area of the hall, which under current COVID-19 restrictions has meant all enrolled gymnasts can still access their normal classes. The increased space and additional equipment allows the club to offer an improved training environment, similar to a regional facility. These upgrades will benefit the Scone Youth Centre attendees as they will be able to enjoy the gym equipment in the air-conditioning whilst being COVID19 safe. We will also be able to take bookings for the hire of the centre and kitchen to community groups for meetings or gatherings, said Councils Youth Services Supervisor, Mary Spora.

03.01.2022 Blandford, Wingen and Parkville residents who were unable to attend the initial village meetings on the water project, can read a transcript or view video of the meeting, at the link below. Please return your feedback forms (also available at the link) by 30 September. Your views will be taken into account in the next version of the concept design, that will come back for more consultation. As stated at the meeting:... "We are at the very, very start of doing the concept designs of what a water supply system in the villages might look like. We have enough of an idea to now come to you and get feedback. We dont have a design that we are trying to sell to you, or get you to agree to. The design that we have now is just an example, and its based on what reticulation in the villages would look like if it was built to the same standard as the systems in Scone, Aberdeen, Murrurundi a full service, and what the real world costs would be."

01.01.2022 "Looking to the skies" Mayor Maurice Collison Shire Notes on the Scone Regional Airport project. Construction work will begin this year on a $23.5M upgrade of Scone Regional Airport which is a valuable asset for the entire Upper Hunter, and is expected to be completed in 2021.... The first stage is much needed airside works, such as runways, taxiways, drainage and lighting, so the airport can upgrade from a registered to a certified airport as required by CASA under new rules brought in this year. The airport is used by many businesses such as equine, mining, farming, and tourism but also and this affects all of us - lifesaving aviation emergency services including fire-fighting, air ambulance and the rescue helicopter. The second stage of the project is building a Warbirds Visitor Attraction and Terminal, including flight stimulators, displays, and working aircraft, which will be a year round attraction, and continue to host the Warbirds Over Scone air shows. Combined with extra facilities such as hangers available to lease, the airport will eventually pay for itself. This is a big investment in the region by three levels of government - NSW (almost $13M), Australian ($3M) and Upper Hunter Shire Council (a $7.75M loan). A project of this size is not undertaken lightly and there has been years of planning, development and grant applications, probity audits, independent reviews of the business case, and independent reviews of the independent reviews. After months of negotiations with potential contractors for the work, Council has just awarded several tenders and stayed within the budget. Im excited about this major investment in essential infrastructure and there has been a lot of support from many members of the community. The real returns on this project will be obvious not just on completion of the buildings, or at the ribbon cutting, but over decades as we see visitor numbers to the region rise and the expansion of industries and services that require a modern regional airport.
