23.01.2022 Hey UYBA family! Our sporting community welcomes the recent announcements by the Victorian Government regarding a return to community sport. As our peak body, UYBA continue to be guided by Basketball Victoria, to ensure we consider all regulations at any given time, and how they will impact and change the way we operate and interact with each other. ...Continue reading

23.01.2022 Att: all UYBA rookies and UYBA teams that train with Paul and Cooper on Tuesdays. Due to finals there is no training until after Easter.

22.01.2022 Here we go.... Rules for covid 2020 NO one is to enter stadium without 1. Signing in and 2. With out the permission or escort of a UYBA official. ONE guardian per player under 18. If you have come with someone else. That is your guardian. No Subtitutes. Siblings can not come into the stadium, if you've got kids not playing, you must remain out side with the non playing children and send the player in with their coach. Each team must bring their own warm up ball. ... You must stay in your spot, no moving around. Arrive early to tick your name off. If you are not registered. Do it know. If you are still not registered get there 30 min before your game so you don't hold everyone up. Rules will be explained when you arrive. Be calm and nice. If you don't think you can do that, send someone else with your child. It has been a very long 2 weeks for all UYBA VOLUNTEERS. Thank you. See more

21.01.2022 Attention: We will be revising our scedule regarding finals at 7.30pm tonight. Could you please comment below: yes if you think we should cancel all UYBA games. No if you wish to play. Basketball Victoria has cancelled all games at a Rep level. Major domestic comps have also counciled their comps.

21.01.2022 *** UYBA Needs You *** Are you a community minded person, tech savvy, and wanting to contribute to the running of our basketball association?? We've got a few gaps in our duty officer roster that we are looking to fill, and we are seeking an expression of interest from our basketball community, to be trained in running the basketball duty desk on game days. The last few seasons have seen a shift in the duties of the desk official, as we've migrated to an online registration..., scoring and sports management platform. We're also in the process of onboarding to a cashless payment integration, so we do need people who are high level multi-taskers, can whip around multiple tabs on web browsers, be app savvy, and be able to assist our members with their technology challenges. You will support committee and referees on game day to administer the collection of fees, uniform queries, set up of equipment, organisation and smooth running of all fixtured games. Those familiar with UYBA will know it can be chaotic at the duty desk, so people interested will need to work well under pressure, and be quick thinking and always planning two steps ahead. Cash handling experience is preferred, as a daily cash reconciliation will be required after each session. A current WWCC is mandatory and you must be willing to undergo police check and provide references. IMPORTANTLY: We need people who display great confidence, and emanate authority, to maintain order in the stadium. To assist the referees to enforce the rules and it may involve escorting ejected players/spectators from the stadium (not a common task but happens from time to time unfortunately) Duty officers are reimbursed for their time and training will be provided. We are seeking people who are RELIABLE and flexible with the roster (games currently run on Sunday arvos, Monday evenings, Tuesday evenings, Thursday evenings, and Saturday all day) If you love basketball, if you've got the attitude to match, and the tech know how that we are looking for, then please send us your expression of interest now: https://uyba.squarespace.com/roles-uyba Applicants who match our criteria will be contacted in due course.

21.01.2022 A big thank you to players and parents today. You were patient, kind and respectful. All games were played in great spirit. The UYBA committee really appreciated it. And most importantly, the kids had fun.

20.01.2022 Hi UYBA Family, You're probably following the updates as closely as we are regarding the current physical distancing restrictions - Basketball Victorias update is on the below link. http://basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19/... In summary: - domestic basketball will be reviewed again at the end of May - No indoor training is permitted at this time - Any training must be outside and comply strictly with conditions set out in BVs link (including practicing strict hygiene procedures) Please note UYBA will NOT be organising any official training at this stage, although we are considering creating some online coaching content and will let you know as that develops. Individual teams are entitled to arrange their own training sessions but it rests with the coach to organise their outdoor team training sessions, and they must ensure that conditions set by Basketball Vic are strictly adhered to. Any teams who do decide to arrange outdoor training, we ask that at the conclusion of each training session, that your coach/team manager email us ([email protected]) the details of the training session (date, time, location, attendees) so we have the records on file should they be required. #staysafe #keepplaying

20.01.2022 Hi All UYBA people. Please read this carefully. We are about to change from TGSPORTS to PLAY HQ. This is not a UYBA decision, it is a directive from Basketball ...Victoria. Play HQ is only basketball and will work alot smoother, (we are told). So please get your team for next season ready. We will tell you what to do and when to do it. We are trying to get it up and running this week. --------------- Finals for Saturday, Sunday and Monday start from next Saturday. We will be on TGsports until the grand finals are over so you can check through the normal routes. Good luck See more

20.01.2022 As promised, we will still hold our MVP awards ceremony this Friday evening - at 6pm. If you would like to watch it LIVE, the live feed will be here on our Facebook page. A recording (if we are tech savvy enough to press record) will also be uploaded shortly after the live feed, to our new YouTube Channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmJEQxIms5jBU5J8pB1cZNg Either way, we're looking forward to sharing a bit of joy with you all, after having to halt our return to play to return to lockdown... See you tomorrow!!

19.01.2022 From 1991. Do you know any of these faces?

19.01.2022 *** GET EXCITED *** We have a plan - it looks a little like this... Our return to play road map is taking shape!! We are still jumping through hoops and waiting on approval from council, but tentatively, ... - WE HAVE DATES - .... and we are excited to say we are honouring our commitment to finish what we started - WE ARE FINISHING OUR SUMMER FINALS - (Yep, even though its now winter) We want to give you your finals that you worked hard for, but we also want all teams back playing asap - so yes, we are proposing to start playing the prelim finals on the Saturday BEFORE school goes back which is one week earlier than we would normally. The restrictions announced that juniors can return before seniors, therefore it is going to be a bit of a mish-mash restart, which for SOME comps, will see a scratch match/grading style game on court two, while the finals are finalised on court one. Before any grumbles start, we fully acknowledge ... its not ideal - but what is, in these crazy times? We're taking the lemons and trying to make something resembling lemonade! We're asking for your patience while we collate more info and get it out to you, and if you haven't registered for the new season, you now have a date so please GET ON IT Get out your pencils/smart phone and mark the dates in your diaries/google calendar - BALL IS BACK!!

18.01.2022 Update: We are still uncertain of a start date for or new season. At this point in time we are still hoping to run the two finals we missed out on (Before the shut down). We are also hoping to start up as soon as possible with the new season (When allowed). To be ready to go, we need you to register your team. We understand the hardship that some members may be going through. With this in mind we will be offering discounts of up to 100% on the UYBA portion of your rego fee. ...(Not the Basketball Victoria one, we are however trying to get them to reduce there fees). We will have the discount codes up in the next few weeks. There will be no questions asked if you decide to take a discount on your registration. Just choose the one that suits you. If you can however afford to pay the full cost we ask you to do this. UYBA is not run for profit but we know every little thing helps. Stay safe UYBA Committee. See more

18.01.2022 Att: Hampton 7. The trades have forfeited tonight's game at 7.45.

18.01.2022 Hi All, One of the ways we will be let back into the stadiums is via registration on a COVID list. Basketball Victoria is asking all coaches and officials to do a COVID course going forward. This might be mandatory or not? at the moment it is. Just in case, here is a link to a website where you can do the online course for free. It takes about ten to twenty minutes. While you are at home hop on your phone and do it.... https://www.openlearning.com//covid-safe-sport-coach-cert/ Get ahead of the curve and it is one thing less to do or think about before you are swamped with "normal" life again. 17.01.2022 Happy Return To Ball Day If you're helping on the score bench today - don't forget, it's a new system! Luckily, we've made an easy "how to" video so you'll know what to do before you even get there! ... watch it now here: https://uyba.squarespace.com/how-to-score-play-hq... Its super easy!

16.01.2022 Dear Members, Our UYBA committee voted this evening (5 to 4) and we regret to inform you that all UYBA programs and games are cancelled until further notice, which is in line with advice received from Basketball Victoria today, and follows similar action from other associations in the state. While we do not feel we would be considered a mass gathering (500 or more), and we do not feel running the competition poses a big risk, we cannot ignore the measures taken by other assoc...iations. UYBA apologise for any inconvenience, but the welfare of our members is paramount. We will continue to be guided by the state governing body and resume finals as and when it is advisable to do so, and we will updates in due course. Our new Winter season registrations should continue to come in although the start of the Winter season may be put back a couple of weeks. We thank you for your understanding and well keep you informed as best we can. Regards, UYBA Committee See more

13.01.2022 Coaches / Parents Basketball Victoria has a number of free training opportunities that you might like to complete in this "down-time" to improve your coaching skills. Aussie Hoops Course - ... https://aussiehoops.basketball/coach-education/ The first is the Aussie Hoops Coaching course, aimed at providing coaches, parents and teachers with a basic understanding of basketball in order to provide parents with the confidence they need to help coach an aussie hoops program, or a junior team. Once the course is completed the participant will be sent a certificate of competition and be placed on the national coaching database. Sport Australia Coaching Course https://www.sportaus.gov.au/coaches_and_officials/coaches This is a sports coaching course that covers all sports, and covers the role of the coach, communication, group management and inclusive coaching. This course is more in depth than the Aussie Hoops course and expands on many topics. Both these courses are FREE and we encourage any coaches or parents with free time on their hands, jump online, enrol and upskill yourselves to better serve your kids in their sport :-D

13.01.2022 Update: We're going back on hold... :-( We'll digest today's announcement and we'll touch base soon ...Update: We're going back on hold... :-( We'll digest today's announcement and we'll touch base soon ...

12.01.2022 Check out these UYBA champs

12.01.2022 Open men and adult games. There are to be no spectators. You can bring in a scorer per team. And a guardian per player under the age of 18. That person must be directly akin to that player. No adults can have guardians. You can not go into the stadium until escorted by a UYBa person. Please wait out side.

11.01.2022 ** IMPORTANT ** We've hinted at changes in the registration system and we are in the final stages of set up. For those not aware, the previous system of registration involved UYBA collecting registration fees and then, through a census to Basketball Victoria, UYBA would then forward a portion of your registration to Basketball Vic twice a year. ... Basketball Vic is changing this process to a national registration, where they charge an annual registration fee per player ($25 per junior / $39 per senior), and that covers a player at any stadium/association they play in for 12 months. This registration will be tied to a Play HQ profile. UYBA will still be charging a registration fee per season of $20. So for example, the coming Winter Season will see a junior pay the BBVic annual fee of $25, plus $20 for the Winter season, but then come Summer 2021, they would only need to pay $20 to UYBA. We understand some of our members might be annoyed by the new registration process, but its a far simpler system than Sports TG, and its been built specifically for Basketball, and all associations nation wide will soon be uniform with this system. TO HELP us get ready to open registration, we need to advise that all players/parents will need to set up a Play HQ account. Help us save time now, and get your account set up: https://www.playhq.com/signup All you need is an email address to register (if you don't have an email address, you can create a free one at www.gmail.com) It doesn't cost to set up the Play HQ account, the fees are only applied when you register to a season. The registration will be online only, and not only this, payment will need to be paid at the time of registration - there is no way around this. If you simply can't pay with cash, we are working on a system to allow you to pay at the desk with cash, but we can't register you unless you pay. With the end of the season here and we are still working on sending reminders out for unpaid rego (partly the members fault, and partly our fault for not following up sooner!) Under Play HQ - this is very important to note - you will not be able to register unless you are paid upfront. If any of our members are experiencing financial difficulty, they are encouraged to speak to the treasurer to work out a payment arrangement (email: [email protected]) - but unless a payment arrangement is approved, payment will be required BEFORE the season starts and we will advertise a few registration sessions before the season begins to assist those who need to pay in cash, or need help setting up their Play HQ account. More information is coming - however if you can help us out now by creating your Play HQ account (parents create an account and then add your kids once you log in) - then that way when we release the registration information - you'll be ready to hit the ground running! Stay tuned for the next steps!

09.01.2022 We've been given access to sneak a peak at the new scoring platform - so we've put together a little video for all the scoring geeks who want a preview on what the new scoring system looks like, and how it all works - you'll find it here: https://uyba.squarespace.com/resources PLAY HQ is coming - are you registered for Winter yet? We can't fixture without your team entries, the time to ACT is now! If you are unsure, we're here to help so reach out :-D

09.01.2022 *** WINTER 2020 UPDATE IMPORTANT *** Please take a few minutes to listen to our winter 2020 registration update. UYBA understands families in our community will experience varying levels of financial distress due to COVID-19. While we must ensure UYBA can pay its bills (refs, duty officers, court hire fees etc), we DO NOT want kids to miss out on playing basketball if money has become a genuine barrier - so tune in here for the update on how UYBA can help you with a discou...nted registration. Importantly, we don't have an update on when we can return, but when we do, we expect it to happen relatively fast - so we NEED you to register NOW to prevent further delays to setting up the new season. Please get your teams/players registered, so once we can, we will be back bigger and better than ever!! Edit: I thought I would be all fancy and put the discount code into the video - and one of them has a typo!! Whoops! Please refer to our website to confirm the correct codes - you'll find them here: https://uyba.squarespace.com/covid19disc

08.01.2022 Finals times!!! Hey UYBA family, we are so excited to be bringing our finals series back to the teams who have unfinished business - game times for the finals are now up on the web - https://uyba.squarespace.com and also on the game day sports tg app Team managers, coaches and players will all have a role to play and we've got more info coming re: what the games will look like under the restrictions. Some of these check lists are now also on our web page under the covid tab if you'd like to have a look, but pencil in your game times for now and you'll hear more from us soon :-)

06.01.2022 **AUSSIE HOOPS TERM 2 ** - registrations for Aussie Hoops term 2 are now open, so jump online now, or sign back up this Saturday - either way, we'd love you to join us again for another fun term of hoops! https://uyba.squarespace.com/aussie-hoops-uyba ** TERM 1 HOOPERS **... Just a reminder - this Saturday is your final hoops session for Term 1 (don't forget to wear your singlets for the term 1 presentation!) See more

06.01.2022 Hi All, There is a sniff in the air that we might be back quicker than you think. BV meet on the 8th of May to discuss what getting back to ball might look like. If this is true then we might be playing ball sooner (In some form) rather than later. This makes it important to make sure your team is in and if you don't have a team, make sure we know. We will be going as soon as we have the green light. if your team is not in, you will miss out for the first few weeks.... Start organizing............ See more

06.01.2022 Att: 28men This wildcats season. Our Mvp will be called "The Big Nath". In honour of Nath. It will be voted by the players. Each team will choose the 5 top players who they feel, represents Naths attitude to all. Friendly, loves to play and would do things without reward. They don't have to of played every game. The list will be on bench. Make sure you fill it out as a team, before or after your game. Then hand it back to the desk. The big Nath, will be given out after the grandfinal.

05.01.2022 Just a snippet of the challenges we are all working through to get back on the courts

05.01.2022 FINALS AND QUALIFYING For those wondering, here are the dates of the upcoming finals series (noting there are no games played over the Labour Day long weekend. Times and courts will be released on sports TG as the last rounds are played. We'll be updating the qualifications every few days and putting the list on our website if you need to check who has qualified - check here:... https://uyba.squarespace.com/qualify-lists-summer-2020 Also if you have not yet paid your rego, you need to do that before your finals games as you will not be permitted to play finals with money owing to UYBA for rego.

04.01.2022 Hi All, UYBA have been getting a few questions regarding patronage of the stadium whilst games are being played. Here are a few points that we hope will clarify these questions:... :Only one parent/guardian per U18 player. No siblings are allowed - even young children. No spectators at all. :You can only have an assistant coach if they have been part of the team for the season. You cannot introduce an assistant coach just for the finals. You can register an assistant coach for next season. :Everyone will sit in the centre of their designated space. Players on CRT 1 will have the whole bottom row as players only. Parents/guardians will use seats that are higher up. CRT 2 players only on wall side. There will be chairs on the curtain side for parents and guardians. : You will be unable to enter with out a UYBA escort. Arrange with your team manager to alert a UYBA official when you arrive. You still may have to wait until they are ready to come out. :These rules have come from Basketball Victoria. We regret that they won't suit everyone and that there will be people who cannot play within these parameters. If UYBA is found to be breaching these rules or we can't control our members from breaching them, we will be forced to shut down our games and return to no games at all. Please don't ask for special consideration due to your circumstances. We hate it when we have to look you in the eye and say no.

04.01.2022 Coming to you live from the UYBA hotdesk, Cat and Deb give you a quick update on our re-start, and also testing this whole "live" thingy in preparation for something exciting!!!

03.01.2022 Welcome back Aussie Hooper's #saturdaybasketball #itsback #aussiehoops #uyba

03.01.2022 MVP Summer 2020

02.01.2022 Att 28 men. Note the time change to tonight's games due to finals on both courts. Back to normal Next Week.

01.01.2022 Play HQ update from UYBA

01.01.2022 While we are excited to be playing our finals, the normal presentation after each game will be impacted by the restrictions we are working with ie. only players of the grand final will be present. Therefore the MVP awards will be announced via a live social media stream - FRIDAY 10th July at 6pm - so ALL our players can tune in online to hear who has been awarded the MVP from Summer 2020. MVP awards will be available after the announcement, to be collected from the stadium a...t the players next scheduled game (or by other arrangement). Again, its not our ideal way to award our MVPS, but its a great way for ALL our UYBA family to tune in and hear the awards live, and we can all give them a big, virtual, socially distanced, pat on the back :-) Details on how to tune in, will be posted later in the week!
