23.01.2022 Planting at home today, we normally plant our shelter belts in spring but this year are trialling two autumn plantings, well it was supposed to be autumn but early winter now due to getting busy but we got in before the workforce goes back to school! This short section along a boundary fence connects two existing shelter belts and will provide welcome shade and shelter from the west. We are also trialling using no guards, this wouldnt be an option everywhere but we felt it worth a try, check back in later in the year to hear how its gone.

23.01.2022 Last Friday was National Schools tree day, unfortunately due to Covoid19 the local school kids were unable to join us, so on a beautiful sunny day Birregurra Landcare members symbolically planted a river red gum on their behalf at platypus point along the Barwon River. #NationalTreeDay #SchoolsTreeDay Landcare Victoria

21.01.2022 What is Regenerative Agriculture? Take two minutes and watch this video from our fellow Landcare friends, this is one of the best descriptions I have heard yet, explaining six key principals - minimise soil disturbance, maximise plant diversity, maintain soil cover, maintain living plant roots year round, integrating livestock/grazing management and integrating trees - sounds like common sense!

06.01.2022 An alert from one of our members African Weed Orchids are now emerging in the Deans Marsh area and are growing very quickly. As you can see from the attached photos the plant consists of two or more monocotyledon, straight, green leaves which can be seen above ground and, below ground a pinkish base to the leaf with one or more corms. These plants like dam banks, and waste places. Please keep an eye out and weed and dispose of appropriately.
