24.01.2022 HENDRA VIRUS FOUND IN UPPER HUNTER HORSE A case of hendra virus has been confirmed in an unvaccinated mare on a property near Scone in the Upper Hunter Valley. ...The Department of Primary Industries says the horse developed neurological signs last Friday and was euthanased after it became unresponsive. A District Vet from Hunter Local Lands Services visited the property on Sunday to collect samples, and the State Veterinary laboratory has confirmed hendra infection. DPI says no other horses are showing signs of ill health but they're being monitored daily. NSW Health is conducting risk assessments of people who've had contact with the affected horse and controlling the movement of animals and people on and off the property. There have been 22 horse deaths from hendra in NSW since the first one in 2006. The previous southern most case was in Kempsey in 2013.

22.01.2022 Hendra virus detected in a horse on an Upper Hunter property. I have spoken with the local district vet working with the DPI and as a result, our competition will be going ahead this weekend. The horse involved is on a property that has a resident fruit bat population and there is no indication that the virus has come from any other source. The other horses on the property are fine and the situation is being monitored. It is very unusual for the virus to be this far south... and the property is some distance from town. Hendra is really only a risk to horses being fed and watered under trees where fruit bats birth and feed. White park does not have an active fruit bat population and we don’t have any trees where horses are fed or watered under. It is as safe as it can be, bearing in mind nowhere is 100% risk free. The risk of horses attending this comp are at no greater risk than horses attending comps in Newcastle or Sydney. Please be sure to read your horse health declarations and put the preventative measures in place outlined on the form. Clean out and disinfect your float before attending the competition and on its return. Remove manure. And check the health of your horse. Ensure all you details including PIC numbers are supplied. 21.01.2022 I am in need of two pencilers this Sunday from 9-10:12 (novice 2A test) and a gear steward for the whole day, or a few people for part of the day. And ofcourse, people on the gate. We will have the draw out tomorrow and I have used most people who nominated penciling and a few that didn't (sorry!). But if you aren't riding and still want to come along, please offer to help in one of these areas. I don't want to load anyone in particular up so I'm hoping many people will volunteer to help in little ways.

20.01.2022 The committee have met and decided to cancel our competition on 29th March. None of us are panic merchants but with new information coming out each day about how other countries are coping or struggling, we want to help give ours a fighting chance of dealing with the virus. Of reducing the impact on our medical system. All the facts show that limiting unnecessary contact short term, while it won’t stop people getting this virus, it will slow the rate of spread and allow our wonderful doctors, nurses, paramedics and other medical resources to cope. Im sure you will all understand. At this stage our 5th July comp is still going ahead, but will advise in relation to our April and May members days.
