20.01.2022 The border is open! Today we celebrate the fantastic efforts of everyone from Victoria and New South Wales, which has allowed for the NSW/VIC border restriction...s to be lifted. You can once again cross the mighty Murray River from New South Wales into Victoria's High Country. There's a number of border crossings that connect NSW with the Upper Murray region of the High Country. You can once again explore these scenic crossings at: Bringenbrong, between Corryong and Khancoban, where you’ll find an ode to the mighty Murray Cray. Tintaldra, where you'll find a Murray Cod sculpture perched on the border. Bellbridge near Albury, where the steel truss Bethanga Bridge carries the Riverina Highway across Lake Hume. Plus several quiet single lane crossings around the backroads of the Upper Murray.

20.01.2022 If you’re looking to do your bit to help out bushfire affected communities, here’s your chance! On New Year’s Eve bushfires tore through our the Snowy Valleys d...estroying homes and so many businesses. Adrian Brayne from Obsession Wines lost his home, his vines and his income for the next 5 years. Adrian was spared his cellar stocked with 2017 and 2018 wines, so if you pop onto his website you can purchase a bottle (or maybe a few!) and know you have helped a local business get back on their feet Look for this sticker ‘2020 Recovery’ and you’ll know they are from a bushfire effected wine region. https://www.facebook.com/Obsession-192323467535322/

16.01.2022 Not long now ‘til cod season opens! Just remember to wait a couple more weeks before you start targeting them. Fisheries Officers recently returned this undersi...ze 51cm cod back to the lower Goulburn River, which had been caught and kept by a fisher. They were issued with a $496 fine. If you can’t wait until December 1, Lake Eildon and the waters south of the Great Dividing Range (except the Yarra River) are open all year round to cod fishing. You can also order a FREE Murray cod ruler sticker to make it easier to measure your fish. Email [email protected] with your details so we can send you one! #fisheriesofficersatwork #murraycod #notlongtogo

15.01.2022 Planning to Visit The Murray this weekend? (Warning: Long but important post ) We can’t wait to welcome our friends from NSW and regional Victoria to ...The Murray region (we’re thinking of our Melbourne friends too and hope to be welcoming you back real soon). Your visit to The Murray looks a little bit different at the moment, so please be patient with us as we all navigate these unchartered waters. If you live in the NSW or Victoria 'designated border region', the good news is you can cross the border this weekend and enjoy all the great things The Murray region has to offer on both sides of the river, but you MUST have a border entry permit to cross the border. Check to see if you live in the designated NSW Victoria border region and apply for a permit (it takes about 2 minutes) at: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au//apply-covid-19-nsw-border- If you’re visiting us from regional Victoria and live outside the designated border region, you can only visit the fantastic places on the Victorian side of the Murray River and not on the river itself. Sadly, you can’t go on a paddlesteamer or houseboat or put your own boat in the river from Victoria just yet. If you’re visiting us from NSW and live outside the designated border zone, you can only visit all the fabulous places on the NSW side of the Murray River, as well as on the river itself. You can put your boat in the river from NSW if you're a NSW resident. Don’t be put off, there’s still heaps to see and do whichever side of the Murray River you're on. Our tourism businesses have had it really tough over the past few months and they'll be eternally grateful for your visit you’ll be helping them to survive. Many businesses are reopening for the first time this weekend so please be kind. Where required they have capacity restrictions to help keep you safe and it will really help if you can book ahead. We can’t wait to see you in The Murray whether it’s in NSW or Victoria - except if you’re feeling unwell. If you’re feeling unwell please stay home and visit us when you’re fit and healthy. Health information for NSW residents: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19 Health information for Victorian residents: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus

03.01.2022 Riley’s Ride Do you know what it is or it’s history? The Riley’s ride is a step back in history. An event that follows the path of Jack Riley’s last ride fro...m the mountain high country into the local town of Corryong on horse back. The ride is held annually and commemorates Jack Riley’s life, the part he played in the early days of this district and to laud the efforts of those who selflessly sought to rescue him under hard and trying conditions when he fell ill on Tom Groggin Station in 1914. If you are wondering who is Jack Riley? Here’s some little facts to get you started on the history trail of Jack Riley. Jack was a overseer at Tom Groggin Station - a high country mountain run owned by John Pierce. Legend has it that in the mid-1800s, Riley joined a party of mountain stockmen who were attempting to recapture a thoroughbred stallion which had escaped and was running with a mob of wild horses near Mount Leatherhead. A stockyard was built on a creek at the foot of Leatherhead and the mob was located, as Riley had predicted, on a high ridge. Upon meeting Jack Riley on a camping trip into the mountains Banjo Paterson spent a entertaining night with Riley at Tom Groggin hearing these tales around the camp fire. Some say Riley is who Patersons poem ‘The Man From Snowy River’ originated from. Either way he became a local legend to the Upper Murray area and is celebrated to this day 106 years later. His legacy and the legacy of the mountain men are honoured and respected as the men and women that take part in this ride every year feel they are riding along the trail of history with these men.
