25.01.2022 Every day is different at Upper Yarra - today we took part in some interviews for upcoming online training modules https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMJBYVehS/

24.01.2022 Hey Neighbours! Pretty dodgy weather expected for Wednesday so please be mindful of your surroundings and stay safe! We’re expecting strong winds, heavy rain and hail to top it all off, there is also the below warning for Thunderstorm Asthma. If you know you get affected by asthma, please take extra care tomorrow and if possible stay indoors... As always; If you need, call us. 24 x 7 000 132 500 Stay safe!

23.01.2022 Hey neighbours! Another windy weekend meant another weekend clearing trees for the crew at Upper Yarra - this is just a few pics from some of our jobs over the past couple of days. Now if the wind could ease up a bit that’d be great thanks

21.01.2022 Hey neighbours! Just a little update from our last few days! We have spent the past three weeks conducting socially distanced training relating to flood management. Two weeks ago, we did a scavenger hunt, locating local flood gauges and landmarks for reference. ... The first photo was taken during that scavenger hunt at a local property that is at risk of flooding. The second photo, is that same property on Friday after a week of continuous rain. I’ve also included some other snaps of RFAs (requests for assistance) our teams have responded to since Friday. More rain expected this week so as always stay safe, stay vigilant and don’t drive through flood waters

21.01.2022 Today our team had the pleasure of meeting beautiful Chewie Chewie and his humans are from out of town and decided to visit some of our local attractions however were misled by their Navman and ended up bogged on a 4wd track at the back of Warburton. While making arrangements to get them to safety and have their car safely removed, we were met by three other vehicles who were also led astray by their gps and were certainly not equipped to be venturing down muddy 4wd tracks... Thankfully everyone made it back to civilisation safely today but this is a great reminder to follow your instincts - if you pull onto a road or track and it is above your vehicles ability , don’t proceed. Get yourself to safety and seek another route. Chewie - we love you and hope to see you back to visit again soon

21.01.2022 Our teams are still out and about trying to work through the chaos caused by high winds over the past 18 hours. We have requested assistance from neighbouring SES units and will continue working into the night to ensure all requests for assistance are resolved as quickly and safely as possible. If anyone knows who we can bribe to get this weather to stop, please let us know - we are exhausted

21.01.2022 During the storm event on Thursday night, Upper Yarra SES attended to all of our designated jobs. Our actual job count was significantly higher than the actual pages we received as it was necessary to cut our way through dozens of trees to be able to access the actual job sites. Our last count of trees cleared from the roadway or houses was 79. ... Please be advised that BoM have updated their Facebook to advise of further weather warnings for tonight (Saturday 29/08) and also this coming Wednesday 02/09 so please ensure you are prepared and stay safe. During these weather events, if you can avoid being on the roads - please please please do so! Be safe

20.01.2022 Hey neighbours! MISSING FROM LAUNCHING PLACE 14 year old William Wall has gone missing after his (usually 15min) run this morning in Launching Place on the Warby Trail at 6:45am. He has not returned.... He is described as Slim build with short Brown Hair, and approx 180cm Tall. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded jumper, dark-coloured track pants, black runners and had a hydration pack across his chest. Police and family hold serious concerns for William’s welfare as he has high functioning autism and he may become disorientated without food due to the length of time he has been missing. If you have seen him or happen to see him, please contact Mooroolbark Police Station on 9725 9999 or his brother Jake on 0450 349 414

20.01.2022 Another windy night for Upper Yarra, fair to say we’ve probably been hit harder in the past 12 hours than we were during that first storm event a few weeks ago. Our current tally sits at 29 requests for assistance since last night and they are coming in quick and fast. As always, everyone please stay safe!

20.01.2022 Hoping that this one misses us but if it doesn’t - 132 500 and we’ll be there As always, stay safe neighbours !

19.01.2022 This afternoon our team attended a high angle rescue at Seven Acre Rock to assist in a large multi-agency retrieval of a 20 year old male whom had fallen over the edge and plummeted 50m and was luckily perched on a tree. This saw attendance from multiple Police crews, multiple Ambulance crews, Little Yarra CFA , Wandin CFA Monbulk Fire & Rescue (CFA) Dandenong CFA Police Search and Rescue and multiple regional and state officers from CFA , FRV & SES. Thankfully, the patient ...was lifted to safety and literally walked away relatively uninjured. All in all a great outcome and a fantastic show of interagency partnership

17.01.2022 Another windy day today for the team at Upper Yarra, hopefully we have a few quiet days before some crazy weather again midweek Stay safe everyone! https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMJBUytbT/

17.01.2022 Heya Neighbours! It’s been a while since we made one of these posts but just wanted to let you know that some wild weather is expected to come our way Friday and Saturday! Please bear in mind the following tips. ... Never drive on flooded roads. A car can float in as little as 15cm of water (that’s the size of a standard pen) We are expecting damaging winds - it is safest to tie down or store outdoor objects such as furniture and trampolines. Be mindful of trees and falling branches. The safest place to be in a storm is indoors If you need SES assistance in an emergency contact us on 132 500. For all life threatening Emergencies please call 000 Stay safe!!

14.01.2022 Another windy day around the state meant another busy day for the team at Upper Yarra! We’ve lost count of how many requests for assistance we received and how many trees were cleared but here are some snaps of today’s best

14.01.2022 Upper Yarra was joined today by our friends at SES Pakenham Unit Lilydale State Emergency Service SES Monash Unit and VICSES Greater Dandenong Unit in the search for local missing person, Susan Shaw. The search is ongoing so we will be back at it again tomorrow and will be joined again by our neighbouring units. Presence of emergency services and other support crews in the Warburton area is increased so please be mindful that they are working in the area.... If you happen to see Susan while out and about, please call 000 immediately

13.01.2022 Today marks the 12th anniversary of the Black Saturday bushfires which devastated Victoria in 2009 and tragically took 173 loved ones from us. The scars on thos...e effected by that day, including emergency service workers still remain. Our thoughts go out to all those impacted by that tragic day. - Photo taken at sunrise, Old Kinglake Rd, Steels Creek, Monday 9th Feb 2009.

12.01.2022 Hiya Neighbours! So you probably are all aware that we’ve had a pretty interesting few weeks with some pretty wild storms causing havoc around the area, hopefully these are starting to settle down...Just in time for our next challenge - FLOOD SEASON! Practical training will be resuming COVID-style as soon as we get the thumbs up. Training is essential to help maintain high quality emergency response, so when we are allowed to return to physical training, it will be in sma...ll sessions while maintaining social distancing measures. Our first refresher will be sandbagging (right in time for flood season) So we are wondering if there is a lovely local person or business that would be interested in kindly donating a meter or two of clean sand that we can safely use during our training sessions? If you would like to help out with this donation, we would be incredibly grateful - please send us an inbox or email to [email protected] to make arrangements (Please do not just leave sand at our unit - if you did, we wouldn’t know who to thank ) Thank you all for your ongoing support!

12.01.2022 Howdy neighbours! Another wet and windy day predicted tomorrow folks Here’s hoping this warning fizzles out to nothing but if not ;... SES are just a call away 132 500 For any life threatening emergencies, dial Triple Zero Please be prepared, be aware of your surroundings, keep safe and if you can avoid being on the roads please do so!

12.01.2022 Hey Neighbours, Finally our day is coming to a close. We had some incredible help from our friends at SES Chelsea Unit , Lilydale State Emergency Service, SES Malvern Unit, SES Whitehorse Unit and SES Essendon Unit - we are so appreciative for these units for lending us their volunteers to help us resolve your requests for help so much faster! ... Sadly you may have seen on the news tonight, a local family has lost their home after not one, but FOUR trees fell through their home. A GoFundMe has been created to help them as they unfortunately do not have insurance. We know times a tough all round but if you would like to contribute, please visit https://gf.me/u/yxcbfm

11.01.2022 The search for Will has come to an end this afternoon and sadly not with the outcome we had all hoped for. Our thoughts go out to Wills family and friends as well as the wider community who have been concerned for Wills welfare throughout this time. Thank you to all our fellow SES units, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, various other agencies, local businesses and the public whom were involved in the search and/or offered support in other ways

11.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to the incredible Dads, step-Dads, Grandfathers and father figures in our unit, our fellow units and associate agencies who constantly sacrifice time with their families to help someone else’s in a time of need! And Happy Fathers Day to all of the Dads and father figures all over world! Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers, and singers of song - Pam Brown

10.01.2022 Hey neighbours, A couple of our crews are heading out tonight to help out our neighbours at Lilydale State Emergency Service with some requests for assistance they’ve received throughout the day - returning the favour for the assistance they’ve offered us over our crazy past 6 weeks #weworkasone ... Fingers crossed for an early night and a sneaky trip to McDonalds on the way through

09.01.2022 The start of what will no doubt be a busy night for crews all around the state

09.01.2022 Hey neighbours! We have had a quiet week or so, knew it was too good to be to be true Fingers and toes crossed that this one magically skips over us - but as always be prepared, stay vigilant and where possible please avoid being on the road ... Stay safe

08.01.2022 Hey Neighbours! Did you know that an average everyday basic pen is 15cm long? No? Well nifty to know for trivia nights or something although pretty useless information for us to be posting right ?...... Ahhhh but no, not as useless as you may be thinking - a pen is a pretty small object, pretty insignificant and relatively tiny in the grand scheme of the world. But did you know that a car can float in as little as 15cm of water? Literally water that is as deep as the length of a pen can cause your car to float. While a pen is pretty small and insignificant at only 15cm ; 15cm of water can create a situation that could risk your life or the life of someone you care about. The Bureau of Meteorology have warned to expect higher than average rain fall between now and at least November with the possibility of a La Nina weather pattern occurring. We recommend you all to take steps to protect yourselves, your families : - Never drive through flood water. - Monitor local conditions and updates. - Prepare yourselves and your home, much like you would if you were preparing for bushfire season ; this is no different and requires the same level of personal planning and vigilance. - Learn about your local flood risk areas using the link below If you have any questions or require any clarification, leave a comment or shoot us a message ; we are here to help :) And as always; if you need us, call us 132 500 24/7 https://www.ses.vic.gov.au/get/your-local-flood-information

08.01.2022 Take note kids : do not try this at home....

08.01.2022 Hey Neighbours! Due to the nature of COVID-19, over the past few months we have had to take a break from face-to-face skills maintenance and training to focus on keeping healthy and safe so we are available to respond to emergencies. From this week, you might see us back out undertaking training in small groups to ensure we have the essential skills and capability required to respond to an emergency.... Emergency services as a permitted industry are able to conduct critical training and exercising under the directions, as endorsed by the Victorian Chief Health Officer. Our crews are following all the COVIDSafe principles, wearing masks and working hard to ensure we are there for our community.

07.01.2022 Our friends over at Chelsea had the cutest request for assistance this weekend

06.01.2022 Vale Mrs Olive Blyde. The Upper Yarra Unit is saddened to hear of the passing of a much loved past member Olive Blyde. Condolences to the family Michael Young Unit Controller

06.01.2022 Hi neighbours, Please take care on Woods Point Road, East Warburton near Riverside Drive. A multi-car collision has caused substantial damage to the bridge.... 06.01.2022 Hey Neighbours The search for Will continues today as unfortunately he has not yet been been found. Please keep his family, friends and all involved in the search in your thoughts today and fingers crossed he is found soon!... Again, if you have any information or have sighted Will - please call Mooroolbark Police Station on 9725 9999 Thank you!

04.01.2022 You know it’s been a busy night when we nearly forget to make a TikTok! Few quick clips from last nights jobs, our teams are back out again today with further clean up. There is lots of debris and dregs on the roads so please take care when driving https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMJkw1R3h/

04.01.2022 Frustrating story out of Perth yesterday, seems the lack of brain cells we have experienced recently isn’t isolated

03.01.2022 I know it’s a fair hike from our patch of grass to Moe but if any of our neighbours hear anything about the whereabouts of these items, please let the police know. We are volunteers. We do not get paid for the assistance we offer. Our government funding is minimal. ... We fundraise and apply for grants to buy our equipment. To have our buildings broken into and belongings stolen is a pretty disgusting lowlife act. This is equipment that is used at the drop of hat to respond to emergencies. The unplanned absence of this equipment has the risk of being the factor that could ultimately change the outcome of a request for assistance - safe to assume these thief’s didn’t stop to consider that it could be a loved one of their own in need of assistance .... Hoping for the sake of not only the team over at VICSES Moe Unit but also the local community who rely on them in times of need that these vital items are returned quickly.
