17.01.2022 Uptown Apartments here to stay We start this correspondence with our heartfelt thanks to the men and women on the frontline of this pandemic, selflessly doing their job in such trying times, no doubt deflecting any notion of being heroes. We are in your debt as a nation and a community, and we stand by you. Many, if not most of us, are struggling to some degree with the restrictions we are experiencing in our communities and our economy. It is an ever-changing landscape, an...d we are in the unknown. Thankfully, Australia has a strong and reliable system of government, and the procedures that have been put in place seem to have steadied the ship for the time-being. Nonetheless, there has been significant disruption, and we will most likely have to learn to live with a new state of normal over the coming months and years. At Uptown Apartments, we have built on our years of experience to adapt to these changes. We are grateful that our relationships with our owners and landlords, which have been built up over many years, have enabled us to negotiate a path through these times, building a bridge to the other side. While many of our competitors have temporarily or permanently closed their doors, WE ARE HERE TO STAY. We are not suggesting it has been or will be easy, and we will be feeling the sting of the mass cancellations we have experienced for some time. However, we will get through and we believe we will be better for it. We are still finding some avenues of business that are enabling us to source income for our owners, albeit at heavily discounted rates. Some people are wanting to shift to short-term arrangements rather than renewing long-term leases. Some people are wanting to self-isolate away from elder family members or housemates. Some people need an office away from home to maintain productivity whilst children are home from school. There are sources of current bookings, and if you need help in one of these areas please contact us. If you have an investment property, especially if it is already furnished, and you are experiencing issues getting tenants, please get in touch with us to find out if we can help. We are not profiting at the moment - we are simply trying to cover costs and help others where we can. Our hope is that we can build stronger relationships that will come to full fruition once things improve. When the crisis is over, and it will be over, we expect a large increase in domestic travel. People will want to visit loved ones interstate. Corporate meetings and relocations that were previously put on hold will need to be reorganised. People will want to get away from where they have been confined. You, our valued customers, will want to travel. And we will be here for you. Stay safe, stay at home. We are all in this together. 05.01.2022 Would you like fries with that a Guide to Sydney seafood Sydney has netted a host of hot seafood joints where quality and sustainability are equally paramount. Leading the trend is North Bondi Fish and Cranky Fins Holidae Inn up at Palm Beach, all showing that punters expect more from their seafood today than mass-farmed Vietnamese basa fish in a greasy joint with poor lighting. Neil Perry recommends sourcing the best and freshest seafood available, then being sure to not ...overcook it. The flavours should speak for themselves, but a quick little marinade never goes astray. Mix a bit of olive oil, lemon, pepper, chilli, garlic and cumin together, marinate for 10 to 15 minutes and throw it on the barbecue grill (a Weber is ideal), Perry says. Squeeze over a bit of fresh lemon and it is good to go. Oysters at the Ivanhoe Hotel Oysters go just as well with champagne as with a thick beer, belonging to that fantastic group of foods you can scoff wearing a black tie or board shorts. At Manlys No. 1 Hamptons-style pub The Ivanhoe, the thonged and saronged can knock back a dozen Sydney rock oysters for $32. Prawns on the beach Head to the Sydney Fish Market, grab a wheelbarrow load of crustaceans and consume on a beach with gusto. Seafood guru John Susman suggests looking for prawns with the feelers present, all 14 legs accounted for, bulging eyes, a head firmly attached and the sweet aroma of the sea. Whole fish at Chiswick Head chef Richie Dolan roasts a beaut whole rainbow river trout at Matt Morans and Peter Sullivans ode to the country garden. The 600 to 700-gram trout is boned and stuffed with lyonnaise onions, wrapped in Chiswick garden herbs and then wood-fired en papillote (thats in parchment for those who dont work in the French stationery industry) and garnished with more fresh herbs after cooking. School prawn popcorn at Hartsyard Hartsyard in Newtown is famous for its fried chicken and eye-popping cakes, but there is also silly deliciousness in a bag of fried prawns with Espelette pepper, sour cream and lemon. The popcorn component comes via a greater union of real-life movie popcorn and salty shrimp. Addictively ridiculous stuff. There are many more places to eat great seafood in Sydney and Google will lead you to them. Eat well and have one for us (prawn that is) Dave and Nicki Lee. See more
