23.01.2022 RINK OF THE WEEK ROUND 18 What a great end to the pennant home and away season! Side 3 won their third match in succession to deservedly squeeze into the top four to play finals. Side 2 bullied their opposition to finish well clear on top of the ladder. Side 1 defeated 2nd placed Heathmont to chalk up four wins in a row. While not in the finals, they finished the year very strongly and should be striving for higher honours next season. Wins by all three Sides means yet anot...her President’s Shout! What is three President’s Shouts in a row called??? Congratulations to all three Saturday Pennant Sides on their achievements this season. We trust that Sides 2 & 3 will do our club proud as they play finals matches this weekend. Side 1: A brilliant victory away against Heathmont shows we can mix it with the best. A ladder since the Christmas break would have UTBC in 3rd position! Results: UTBC 83 (16 points) def Heathmont 64 (2 points). Despite winning, dropped a position to finish 7th on the ladder. Season goal achieved. Side 2: Opponents, Warburton, needed to win to avoid relegation. Showing no mercy, we crushed the opposition with an emphatic 65 shot victory, dropping just 3 Multiples a team record. An excellent preparation for this week’s home final. Results: UTBC 106 (18 points) def Warburton 41 (0). Play a home final on Saturday against Ferntree Gully. If successful, play Sunday at Heathmont in the Sectional Grand Final. Good luck! Side 3: Had to win to play finals and did it in style with a strong 32 to 15 last quarter. An especially fine effort as we had to beat two top 4 sides in previous weeks as well. Results: UTBC 85 (16 points) def Ringwood 64 (2). Play an away final on Saturday against Monbulk. If successful, play Sunday at Ringwood in the Sectional Grand Final. Good luck also! Rink of the Week: There were several outstanding performances at the weekend. The best two rinks both won 16 ends. They were only separated by the fact that one rink didn’t drop a Multiple the other dropped just one! With a final score of 25 to 7 it’s congratulations to Graeme Mather, Jeff Blastock, Trevor Robertson and John Jennings. Coaching Tip Treat finals like any other game. Get your delivery process right and the result will take care of itself

22.01.2022 Mountain men and barefoot bowls is cancelled tonight due to the forecast extreme heat conditions.

21.01.2022 Round 1 pennant results It was not the start to the season we’d hoped for. Side 1 struggled on the super slick green at Pakenham and Side 3 just went down in a valiant effort. Fortunately Side 2 reversed the trend with a solid win at home. Hopefully Sides 1 & 3 can both achieve success on our home turf this week. Side 1: Off to a slow start as players took time to adjust to the very challenging surface. Improved quarter by quarter but our opposition were too good. Having one ...rink up was a great achievement. Results: UTBC 65 (2 points) lost to Pakenham 110 (16 points). Side 2: Any win is a good win! But it seems that the home green advantage we once enjoyed has dissipated to some extent. Mulgrave CC quickly adapted to the new surface and were within striking distance all day. Results: UTBC 77 (14 points) def Mulgrave CC 67 (4). Side 3: Playing on a newly opened grass green, players adjusted relatively quickly to the conditions and remained in the match right up until the final end. Results: UTBC 65 (2 points) lost to Cranbourne 70 (16). Rink of the Week: There were four rinks who qualified for rink of the week by winning on Saturday. But with 14 Ends and a final score of 25 to 12 it’s congratulations to Blake Bartrop, Mike Lindrea, Jeff Blastock and John Jennings. Coaching Tip Pressure always comes from within. If you are negatively affected by pressure, you are the cause and the solution

16.01.2022 RINK OF THE WEEK ROUND 4 Upwey Tecoma Bowls Club | News | by Gavin Bransgrove There was another strong win by Side 2 and two honourable losses to Sides 1 and 3 last Saturday. After four rounds, Side 1 is tracking well with 2 wins and two losses from three away games. Side 2 has done everything right and is sitting atop the ladder undefeated. Side 3, while bottom of the ladder, is only one good win away from 4th spot, after playing three away games....Continue reading

14.01.2022 Round Two - Saturday 5th December. Two wins and a close loss were the outcomes from Saturday’s round of matches. Side 2 is sitting on top of the ladder, undefeated. Side 1 has sneaked into the four after their big win, while Side 3 is seventh after two narrow losses. Side 1: Tested on our new home green for the first time, and came home with flying colours. Led 42 to 19 at the half way mark, lapsed to lose the third quarter 12/25 (only 62 excellent bowls) before finishing str...ongly 39/13 (83 excellent bowls). Another highlight was that the team only dropped 3 Multiples for the match (11 shots) but won 11 Multiples (41 shots). This 30 shot differential was virtually the difference in the game (36 shots). Results: UTBC 93 (17 points) def Berwick 57 (1 point). Play away to 7th placed Burden Park this week. Side 2: Any away win is gold and it was a fighting victory at Cranbourne on Saturday. With one rink drawing and another down by just one shot, it was almost an 18 point day. Understandably, we took a while to adjust to the green, trailing mid-way by 27 to 34. A strong second half (48/32) consolidated the win. To win 46 Ends and drop only 5 Multiples was an excellent performance. Results: UTBC 75 (15 points) def Cranbourne 66 (3). At home to 3rd placed Cockatoo this week. Side 3: Got off to an even start then accelerated in the third quarter (22/11) to lead by 10 shots. However, we tapered off in the last quarter going down 14/30 to lose overall by six shots. Won 41 Ends but dropped eleven Multiples which hurt! Results: UTBC 69 (4 points) lost to Churchill Waverley Golf 75 (14). Play away this week at Keysborough. Rink of the Week: There were seven winning rinks on Saturday. One rink won 16 Ends, did not concede a Multiple and won by 20 Shots 26/6. Congratulations to Ross Linton, Damien Jones, Chris Green and Andrew Walters. Coaching Tip Positive self-talk is one way to release self-imposed pressure. For example, ‘I must not let the team down’ becomes ‘I have practised well and am going to enjoy the match’

07.01.2022 Pennant results round 3 Saturday 12th December. Three great wins on Saturday has really got our season up and running. Side 2 had a battle at home but overcame the opposition to remain on top of the ladder, undefeated. Side 3 and Side 1 both played thrillers, each getting over the line by just one shot. It goes to show that every shot (and indeed every bowl) really does count! Side 1: Got off to a reasonable start on the quick grass green at Burden Park, trailing narrowly dur...ing the first half. In a game that was close all day, the momentum swung each end. Scores were level with one End to play and we went on to score the one shot required. This match illustrated the importance of hanging in there. One rink trailed 1/19 at one stage, but instead of dropping their heads, they rallied to pick up a further 18 shots to 7. Without their comeback, the match was pretty much gone! Results: UTBC 83 (14 points) def Burden Park 82 (4 points). Placed 3rd on the ladder we play away to top side Keysborough this week. Side 2: After an uncharacteristically slow start at home, trailed early. Gradually wore the opposition down to record our third successive win by 9 shots overall. Ordinarily, to only win 39 Ends is not enough to get over the line. But 11 Multiples won vs 6 Multiples lost made the difference. Playing against Cockatoo’s number 1 side, this was an important victory. Results: UTBC 75 (16 points) def Cockatoo 70 (2). At home to 2nd placed Carrum this week. Side 3: Playing third placed Keysborough away, but leapt out of the blocks to lead early by 20 shots to 8. The opposition came back during the middle stages of the game to be virtually level with 20 Ends to play. With one rink well up and the other three trailing narrowly, it was a mighty performance to come out on top by the barest of margins. Results: UTBC 70 (12 points) def Keysborough 69 (6). Play away again this week, this time at the Dandenong Club who are currently bottom of the ladder. Rink of the Week: Although we won all three matches, there were only six winning rinks on Saturday. Pleasingly, most losing rinks were close. The Rink of the Week won 13 Ends and won by 14 Shots 31/17 to get their team over the line. Congratulations to Frank Van Vloten, Mic Kimmit, John O’Sullivan and John Tucker. Coaching Tip A good Skip (and a good Third) must be good communicators. Always give clear concise instructions, both verbal and non-verbal. Always display positive and encouraging body language. Always provide accurate feedback. Know how to get the best out of each player in the rink.
