23.01.2022 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipMUY3_AmKKsnXQDxx1 SOME CUTENESS FOR YOUR MONDAY!

21.01.2022 Winter is truly upon us! The mornings are getting very chilly which means all your pets will want to snuggle up in bed & keep warm. It's a good time to keep an extra eye on your elderly pets who may be a bit stiffer and slower during the colder months. There are a number of things you can do to help keep them comfortable, such as ensuring they have a warm, draught free area to retreat to. Make sure beds are well cushioned and stable, (raised a little off the ground for bigge...r dogs) and invest in a cosy winter coat for those pets who spend time outdoors or have a sparse coat. If you notice any changes with your elderly pet over the cooler months please don't hesitate to give us a call on 3425 1544 to talk it through. There are a number of things we can help with from pain relief, supplements and diet. Also ask about our "Senior Pet Program" which includes a free consult every 6 months, free urinalysis plus discount on any in house blood testing. Enjoy the cuddles! See more

18.01.2022 FREE on-farm metabolic testing for ponies Why? Changes in insulin concentrations are common in ponies, mainly in the overweight ones and in specific families... of ponies. If left undiagnosed and unmanaged, this problem can lead to laminitis. Thus, we are studying the prevalence of insulin dysregulation in our Queensland ponies to better understand the problem. Who’s eligible? Purebred ponies of Shetland, Australian Riding Pony and Welsh A breed between 5-10 years old in South-East Queensland. What do you get? Free on-farm veterinary assessment and insulin testing for your pony. How do I sign up? Contact Dr Brianna Clark or Dr François-Rene Bertin at UQ VETS ESH on 5460 1799 or email [email protected]

17.01.2022 Did you know these common flowers and plants are toxic to our fur babies? However, not all types are toxic to both. For example, not all lilies are toxic to dog...s, such as the Easter lily. So it’s best to do some research before adding new plants or flowers to the family. For a full list of flowers and plants toxic to our pets, visit > https://hubs.ly/H0r0GSK0

17.01.2022 It's spring time, which means snakes are out and about (I’m sure you all saw the two male snakes in the roof at Laceys Creek on the News)! We've had a lot of sightings in the local area over the past few weeks so it's good to know what signs to look for if you think your dog or cat has been bitten. Firstly, if you think your dog or cat has been bitten take them straight to a vet. Getting antivenin into them quickly can be life saving for your pet. Some of the most common sig...ns of a snake bite include: sudden weakness followed by collapse, shaking of the muscles, drooling salivation or frothing, dilated pupils, vomiting, loss of bladder control and blood in the urine. If you see the snake try and remember its markings and colour or take a photo from a safe distance away. Never try and catch the snake- leave that to the professionals! There are a number of local snake catchers in our area who you can contact. See the pictures below to help you out with identifying the different species of snakes in South East Queensland.

17.01.2022 Last Friday was our nurse Natasha Barnes birthday!! We put on a yummy lunch for her on Friday and then she was on call over the weekend with Kate Heathwood- luckily she loves her job!! Tash was lucky enough to do her first cow caesarean with Katie. They finished around 9:30pm and the calf and Mum were happy and healthy- well done girls. The owners even decided to name the calf after her for her birthday. Meet Tash everyone.

16.01.2022 This fledgling Little Wattlebird was dropped in this afternoon after being found in a dogs mouth. A fledgling is a baby bird learning to fly from the nest. Little Wattlebirds are a common breed around the Dayboro area. If found injured, please don't hesitate to drop them into the clinic. Otherwise, if you see them on the ground wobbly, clumsily fluttering around they are just learning how to get around. It's best to leave them in the area found as their parents will be close by watching on.

15.01.2022 Sunday Funday!! Pick your pets and add them as a comment. Lets see who has the most varied pets

14.01.2022 This little owner is super excited about her new family member, Betty- Lou. She had an adventure exploring around the clinic on foot and loved getting cuddles from the vet students, nurses and vets. Betty- Lou was here today for her puppy vaccination to help protect her against viruses and diseases. What a little cutie!

08.01.2022 Does your pet's breath smell fresh? Did you know that 80% of dogs over 3 years and over 70% of cats over 3 years have dental disease. A dental checkup every 6- 12 months is recommended for all dogs and cats over the age of 3 years. The vet will check their teeth and gum health. Older pets and smaller breed dogs are especially at risk of dental disease. Inflamed gums are the first signs of periodontal disease, it can be reversed if treated early. The best ways to keep your pe...ts teeth clean are: - Using a toothbrush & toothpaste (pet paste) every 1- 7 days - Chew toys - Dental chews - Raw bones - A scale and clean with your vet every 12 months - Dental specific dry food Call us today to book your pooch or feline friend in for a dental checkup- 3425 1544. You can discuss all of this information with your vet in consultation to determine the best plan for your pet's dental health.

08.01.2022 Check out 'Tidda' the Tabbie Sphynx cat who visited the clinic yesterday. DID YOU KNOW? Sphynx cats are not actually bald- they have a very fine layer of fuzz. The breed isn't hypoallergenic like most people might think and they are actually 4 degrees warmer than most other cats. They have the coolest leg markings too- check out the pictures. We also had 'Dixie' the Silkie rooster who was limping after being stepped on by a horse. He was the sweetest, most personable guy and loved all the cuddles. Silkies look more like bunnies with chicken legs due to their fluffy coat. In fact rumours have it that people in the Netherlands tried to market them to tourists as the first ever bird mixed with bunny. So if you want a "bunny chicken/rooster" these guys are the best family pet.

06.01.2022 A great read on "The 10 Most Common Mistakes We Make on Dog Happiness". Sounds like we can be way off sometimes. Listen to your pet, they're always trying to talk to you in other ways https://www.sciencealert.com/dog-behaviour-happy-important-

05.01.2022 We've just had a call to advise that there are 3 loose dogs running down Mt Pleasant Road. One blue cattle dog, one red kelpie and one white fluffy dog. If you know the owners, please give them a call.

04.01.2022 Today we had a 6.1kg Coastal Carpet Python dropped into the clinic after being attacked by a dog in Samford. It had multiple lacerations- a superficial 3cm laceration on the left lateral and a deep wound to the mid body. It also had a suspected fractured rib but no obvious lacerations to the organs. Hopefully it will make a full recovery at Australia Zoo. Thanks to Dr Meghan and 5th year vet students, Stephanie & Natalie for treating and bandaging the snake so it can be driven to the zoo. We love wildlife at UQ VETS Dayboro so if you find an unwell or injured animal, please drop them down to us (all free of charge of course).

04.01.2022 Say hi to Dot, an 11 week old English Springer Spaniel. She was here today for a puppy vaccination, parasite prevention and to purchase some new toys. Dot tried to pay for her bill but the eftpos machine wouldn't take puppy kisses. Cuteness overload!

04.01.2022 Are you aware of your dog's body language? They are always telling you more than you realise. This is a helpful article with some basics to start you off.

02.01.2022 PUPPY PRESCHOOLS STARTING AGAIN... We are delighted to inform you all that our Puppy Preschool Classes will be starting here again on Thursday 24th September. Spots are very limited so please contact us on 3425 1544 if you are interested in joining. We would like to welcome Lisa Reynolds as our new puppy trainer. Lisa owns her own business, "Taking the Lead Pet Services" and comes highly recommended from our previous trainer, Jen Davy who she has worked alongside. ... A BIT ABOUT LISA: I’m Lisa, the owner of Taking the Lead Pet Services. I live with my husband, Jamie, and our beautiful dogs, Darcy, a yellow Labrador and Buddy, a black Labrador cross Wolfhound . We are originally from the UK (except Buddy) and moved to Brisbane is August 2018 to start a new life here in Australia. That is when Taking the Lead Pet Services was born. Darcy moved from UK with us and Buddy joined our family in June 2019. Darcy and Buddy’s favourite place to visit is the beach! We have also adopted a horse called Dori. I’ve always loved being around animals but Darcy is the reason I found such a huge love of dog training and it pushed me to start looking into why dogs behave the way they do and what we can do to help them. This led me to start training with The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers and I went on to pass my assessment with them. I believe there is always more to learn so I am continually expanding my knowledge with various courses, seminars & books and I am re-assessed every 2 years to ensure my knowledge is being kept up to date. I have a huge interest in canine enrichment and I’m always trying to find new, fun ways to keep dogs mentally stimulated through activities and physical exercise. I currently offer 1-1 dog or puppy training, puppy and adult dog classes, behaviour consultations and a new online course. I can’t wait to meet all of you and your wonderful dogs! Lisa
