20.01.2022 ARCH7007: Architecture and Urban Design progress images The studio takes as a springing point a fictional narrative in the tradition of a Bartlett unit, in this case a strike from an unknown group. This is a vivid form of an otherwise familiar occurrence: cities are regularly called upon to reassess themselves in response to serious crises: economic, natural, social/political, technological, etc. The crises are destructive, but are also opportunities for regeneration and ch...ange. It is a space for the architect as protagonist 1: Qiyao Liu, sanitorium on St Helena Island 2: Elizabeth Robbins, toxic substance released in the city centre and decision is made to seal off and abandon areas ground plane 3: Lachlan Sweet, Funerary architecture where a ceremonial route weaves through existing urban landscape 4: Malakai Smith, Dystopian enclave 5: Matthew Walton, severing of an already marginalised area of City of Logan. An isolated community proactively has to reshape their natural and built environment 6: Malakai Smith, first of a series of apocryphal towers 7: Hamish Buchhorn, existing monumental industrial buildings as a complex of baths and lidos This studio is led by architect Peter Besley.
