11.01.2022 Salut! France is well-known for its film industry. I'm sure many of you have seen films such as "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" and "The Intouchables", but today we're going to take a look at French New Wave films. French New Wave (known in France as "La Nouvelle Vague") is a film movement that originated in the late 1950s. This filmmaking movement was pioneered by directors such as Francois Truffaut, Claude Chabrol, Agnes Varda, and Alain Resnais to name a few, many of whom we...re associated with the film magazine Cahiers du Cinema. This style is charcterised by a complete rejection of the mainstream "Tradition de qualite" of French films at the time, employing elements such as improvised dialog, long tracking shots, and featuring themes of existentialism and surrealism. The BFI has chosen a list of their picks for the 10 best French New Wave films: Hiroshima mon amour (1959) - Alain Resnais Breathless (1960) - Jean-Luc Godard Les Bonnes Femmes (1960) - Claude Chabrol Shoot the Piano Player (1960) - Francois Truffaut Lola (1961) - Jacques Demy Adieu Philippine (1962) - Jacques Rozier Cleo from 5 to 7 (1962) - Agnes Varda Le Mepris (1963) - Jean-Luc Godard Claire’s Knee (1970) - Eric Rohmer Celine and Julie Go Boating (1974) - Jacques Rivette These are all fairly dense and unconventional films, but in my opinion, are some of the best films of all time. If you don't know where to start, I would highly recommend starting with Breathless (1960), which is regarded by some critics as the best film of the French New Wave. A la prochaine! 09.01.2022 Salut UQFS! As winter is now over and spring begins to warm us all up, we at UQFS thought we would share the recipe of a classic spring Quiche Lorraine with Bacon and Gruyere. This quiche Lorraine recipe yields a rich egg pie and hails from the mountainous region of Lorraine in northern France. Sufficient for a filling meal in itself, quiche Lorraine has been adapted over the years from a humble custard and bacon pie to the substantial cheese, bacon, and egg creation that it ...is known for today. Ingredients as follows: 1 layer pastry dough 4 slices bacon (crumbled) 4 eggs 1 cup half and half 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon white pepper 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg 1 cup Gruyere cheese (shredded) Steps: 1. Preheat the oven to 190 C 2. Sprinkle the bacon onto the bottom layer of the pastry 3. Beat together the eggs, half and half, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Pour the eggs over the bacon and sprinkle with the shredded cheese. 4. Bake the quiche for 45 to 50 minutes, until the eggs are set in the middle. 5. Cool slightly and Bon Appetit
