05.01.2022 When I was looking at a career I thought Social Work suited me as I love helping people and I like to take a holistic approach. A UQ alumni, Kirsten took up an 18 week placement throughout the later part of 2019 with Darling Downs Health where she spent the majority of her time at the Toowoomba-based Community Care Unit and then final weeks with Evolve Therapeutic Services (child and youth mental health services). Its been an incredible experience and has given me the bes...t opportunity to put theory into practice. I would one hundred percent recommend that other students choose a rural placement. For me specifically I gained experience in case management, learned about mental health care plans, saw the patient journey and how the whole health system works, she said. Kirsten was delighted to take up a Social Worker position with Darling Downs Health following her rural placement and is currently enjoying her career in regional and rural health. It is particularly impo...rtant this year as we face the COVID-19 pandemic. Students can access vaccination through UQ Health Care St Lucia and Gatton clinics for $17.
