25.01.2022 ATTN! Our first UQPaeds Journal Club of the year starts tomorrow and we can't wait to see you all there! The theme this week is Paediatric Surgery & the paper we will be looking at is posted on our event page. Come for some complimentary dinner and some stimulating learning! Professor Roy Kimble, a paediatric burns and trauma surgeon from the Queensland Children's Hospital will be helping to facilitate the discussion.



25.01.2022 Introducing our first set of speakers at our Pathways to Paeds event! A/Prof Nithin Kapur and Dr. David Levitt are the QCH Directors of Paediatric Education. They will be taking us through the application process for paediatric basic physician training as well as the requirements that we should complete during our resident years.

24.01.2022 As the COVID-19 situation continues to unfold, we regret to inform our members and medical community that our events have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. As the situation progress, we will keep you updated on whats to come. A quick update to our members from our 2020 President Jack Hill-Rennie: "UQ Paeds will be postponing our events for the next couple of months. We will be looking to kick start again in the second half of the year when the time is appropriate.... It's obviously a very dynamic ever-changing scenario and at this stage it is more important to keep ourselves, clinicians and patients safe. Stay safe everyone"

21.01.2022 Dr Boyd is a Brisbane trained general paediatrician with 19 years' experience. She has a special interest in the medical assessment and management of children and adolescents with eating disorders and currently leads the inpatient care of medically compromised children. She is also part of a State-Wide service, providing education and training to medical, mental health and allied health clinicians. 20.01.2022 Dr Derek Chong is Queensland's first Indigenous psychiatrist. He is the Senior Psychiatry Registrar at the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health. He has worked at the coalface in health, starting as a residential care worker, then a psychiatric nurse, then studying and practicing medicine before becoming a psychiatrist. His mother's people are from Mt Tamborine: the Wongaburra clan of Mullanjarli tribe of the Yuggerah Nation, and his father's people are from the Tate Region and Kowanyama. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Derek Chong will also be joining us at the Paediatric Mental Health Seminar. Saturday 16th of November Last year our wonderful UQPaeds members helped to raise over $12 million dollars for the Childrens Hospital Foundation to help work wonders for sick kids and their families! ... This year, we are aiming even higher! If you would like to get involved, you can join us at the Telethon Contact Centre on Saturday the 16th of November. There will be lots of activities, live television performances and plenty of wonderful generous donations! Come along and join in all of the fun! 06.01.2022 Prof Christel Middeldorp has a conjoint appointment with the Child Health Research Centre (CHRC), UQ, and Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS), Childrens Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CHQ HHS). She is also affiliated to the department of Biological Psychology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her research interests involve the role of genetic and other familial influences on the development and persistence of psychopathology across the lifespan. We have had the honour of securing her as one of our speakers for the Paediatric Mental Health Seminar.
