17.01.2022 A few weeks ago, Sophie Rutter, one of the Sustainability Office's own spoke virtually at the graduation ceremony for the Lord Mayor's Young Environmental Leadership Network. The program, run by Brisbane City Council, is a unique learning and leadership program that directly engages and supports schools to be cleaner and greener. Through their projects in 2020, Year 10 students from 33 schools were empowered to create positive environmental change in their school and commun...ity. This is Sophie's second year speaking to the graduating class, and she wishes to continue using her own experiences in persuing a passion for sustainability and finding purpose to show young leaders they have the power to do the same!

The 'Brisbane Carbon Challenge' is supporting 20 Brisbane households to reduce their household carbon footprint by 50% and save on household bills. Successful households will receive a $2500 'incentive package' to help them cut their carbon footprint!! ... To be eligible for selection as a Champion Household, you will need to live in the Brisbane local government area. Applicants will also need to be over 18 and authorised to submit an application on behalf of their household. The environmental effects of bottled water use are extensive. It takes more than 6 litres of water to produce a 1.5 litre bottle of bottled water.
