25.01.2022 Were online! This is a first for us, and we hope you will join us for the new 2020 online format of the Uraidla & Summertown Country Show. This is a great opportunity to bring our community together for a virtual event that requires no public attendance. Were brainstorming ideas to create a condensed version of the Show, so thank you for your understanding and patience whilst we work out what that will look like!
24.01.2022 We have more work to do!! And any helpers would be much appreciated as always...pencil us into your diaries!

23.01.2022 The Horticultural Industry has called for an extension to the zero-tolerance policy to include the Ceduna quarantine station. The zero-tolerance approach on eas...tern borders has successfully reduced the risks of Queensland fruit fly coming into our State, however, with Mediterranean fruit fly coming from the West, the industry is supporting the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Developments call for an expansion of zero tolerance to the Ceduna quarantine station. We will continue to work with Government and Industry to tighten these measures. The horticultural industry is urging residents within the quarantine zone to comply with strict requirements and for the full enforcement of the zero-tolerance laws to be enforced on borders. For all commercial consignments, it may be time to revisit a central inspection quarantine facility within operations such as the South Australian Produce Market for all produce coming into the State. Fruit fly is the worlds most destructive and devastating pest for fruit and fruiting vegetable production. Tight border controls are essential in protecting South Australias $1.2 billion horticulture industry, as the pressure has never been greater. The sector consists of an estimated 3,500 small to medium sized businesses, employing around 13,500 permanent staff and an additional 24,000 seasonal staff.

13.01.2022 Following last nights post about my extra long #Tromboncino which we measurde at 168cm long, @Marie Kalkaus sent me a link to the Australian Giant Pumpkins and... Vegetables Supporters (AGPVS) website https://agpvsrecords.wixsite.com/agpvs/current-records which shows that the current Aussie record Long Tromboncino is 167.4cm grown by Danielle Napier (2020 NSW). Knocking the stem off means my #SophiesPatch special cant be official but I now get an honourable mention!? If you too are a bit competitive when it comes to vegies, check out the sizes of what people have grown its fascinating! And if you love a laugh, dont forget to tune in to #talkbackgardening with the one and only Peter Goers and myself at 11am SA time (EST) on ABC Adelaide. We talk all things gardening, including some of my favourite giant vegies, and answer questions in between! Hope you can join us .and call in with your questions. PS These photos were taken back in late March and I actually though it would keep growing a bit but it didn't. #mypatch #giantvegetables See more

The kindergym president role on average is an hour a week, done at kindergym or after the kids are in bed. Some weeks nothing, the first few weeks of term a few more. If you would like more details about the president role and the responsibilities, please email me and I will send you more information says Charlotte who has stayed on to help keep the kindergym running. We have a Committee Meeting this Friday night at 7pm at the Uraidla Pub. If you cant make the meeting but are interested email [email protected] Or call 0410 866 694 www.adelaidehillskindergym.com.au #adelaidehills #uraidla #mtloftykindergym

07.01.2022 After each show there is so much wonderful help to pack everything up til the next year. After last year, we've discovered that some of our show signage must be living somewhere else and we're hoping you can shine a light. We want to avoid the cost of reprinting, so if you have been taking care of the signs for us, please give us a call on 8390 3653 or drop us an email [email protected] and we'll organise to collect. Save the date - Uraidla Show - 1 November 2020!
07.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came out on the weekend!! Specifically, thanks to Jeanette Biggs, Tom FB, Lynne Norton, Russel Norton, Di Liebelt, Rhys Pup Liebelt, Murray and his bobcat, Irene and Paul Noakes, Barry Cummins, Oscar Walters, and John and Lesley Richards
06.01.2022 Do you catch the bus? You may not know that as part of the State government public transport review the 821 is proposed to terminate in Summertown. This means... it will not longer go from the City to Uraidla. We dont think thats good for many reasons: school kids, Uni students, businesses, people who work down the hill, tourism and people who choose not to drive. We encourage you to have your say via https://bit.ly/3fmZPKf Or google DPTI new public transport network to find out how to have your say. This is just one of the changes so if you rely on the bus check out what else is planned and make sure you have your say #imagineuraidla #adelaidemetro #adelaidehills

03.01.2022 This absolutely incredible lady turns 100 today!! Joyce Boehm is still actively involved with the Uraidla Show and wider community, and also still delivers Meals on Wheels! Joyce is a wealth of knowledge in anything involving our community (as you might have heard at the show last year!) and we cannot imagine how incredible it must be to have seen it evolve over the last century. She has already received her letter from the Queen, and we couldn't be more proud of this astounding lady! Happy Birthday Joyce

01.01.2022 Always Was, Always Will Be. Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. ...We are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. We built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Our adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled us to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and our cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. For us, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Check out all NAIDOC 2020 events happening here: www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/naidoc-week-events #naidoc2020 #adelaidehills
