25.01.2022 The Garden is getting a new "waterless garden" feature below the existing beds, being constucted with donations from Darren McDonnnell and CEBA (Compressed Earth Bricks Aust.). It involves burying logs to absorb water deep in the ground, and covering with compost and mulch. This also makes for a fungal-rich medium in which to grow plants. The plan below shows the layout for the Gardens in 2020. Submitted by Julie Hicks.
24.01.2022 Here are some photos of what's growing at the Garden (May 2020). First photo shows carrots, garlic, cabbages and broccoli. At the end of this long bed are a variety of onions - seed just planted. Second photo shows Brussels Sprouts, pak choy, broccoli & cabbages and turnip. Other photos will show silver beet, tatsoi, and pak choy gone to flower (food for insects, then will save the seed for next season). On the 'upper deck are shallots, potato onions and leeks. The last photo shows a mass of self-sown violas putting on a great display at the Entry. Submitted by Julie Hicks.

20.01.2022 Growth leads to growth.
13.01.2022 Darren and I got inspired the other day and created some block tables and chairs at the front of the Project Garden. Surrounding them is a thick layer of mulch. In the Pantry garden, the onions, bush peas, broad beans and onions are powering on. On the menu at the moment are carrots, spinach, silverbeet and broccolini.
12.01.2022 It's early May 2019 and no frosts yet, again. The cabbages and silverbeet planted in March are being harvested. The produce selected this morning for the Food Bank at the Neighbourhood Centre are the above plus pumpkins, lettuce, rhubarb and radish. Delish!

03.01.2022 Julie with the Jobs Australia horticultural students, planting the first batch of autumn vegetables. What an awesome opportunity the UCG and Julie have provided to facilitate such an event. If any other groups/schools are interested in planning an event like this please get in touch with us through this page or the Uralla Neighbourhood Centre.
03.01.2022 The Community Garden is getting a new fence, funded by the Food Bank at the Uralla Neighbourhood Centre, to where the produce found within will go. Thanks again for the help provided by Belinda Milgate and her group of horticultural students doing a Certificate II course, and Nevyl and Julie of the Little Ladybird Plant Nursery.
02.01.2022 Rabbits are very present, and getting very hungry around north Uralla (breeding up in the gully around the rail underpass) so the Community Garden got a "quick fix" fence surrounding most of it with some rolls of silt retention fabric. This should also help with acting as a wind-break, and to slow down evaporation for a new hedge to be planted in spring.
