The laws and rules include: - Mandatory microchipping of dogs and cats - Desexing of dogs ...and cats born after the 1 July 2018 - New rules for breeders who sell dogs and cats - Introduction of a State-wide database, called Dogs and Cats Online. These new laws and rules will simplify dog registration process, make it easier to reunite lost dogs and cats with their owners, help identify and put a stop to puppy farms and reduce euthanasia rates. Microchipping From 1 July, owners must microchip their dogs and cats by 12 weeks of age or at the point of sale. Desexing Dogs and cats born after the 1 July must be desexed by 6 months of age or 28 days after purchase by the owner. Exemptions apply. 10.01.2022 This is a great "action shot" of what we start with after your dog presents for a Chocolate Toxicity. Thanks Dr. Antonucci for this picture. Thanks to the dog's... owner for allowing us to post and bringing her in to be fixed. Thanks to my staff for mopping up the floor. Thanks to the air filters for ridding the office of the smell of yucky chocolate. Thanks to the staff member who totally under estimated when placing a single blue pad to catch the vomit. See more
10.01.2022 Today is World Veterinary Day Whether youre a cat person, a dog person, a rabbit person or a bird person, theres one thing all animal lovers can agree on, and... thats the fantastic work carried out by veterinarians. World Veterinarian Day was created in 2000 by the World Veterinary Association to highlight and promote the lifesaving work performed by veterinarians around the globe. 09.01.2022 Microchip discount New laws for cat and dog owners are being introduced to South Australia from the 1st of July 2018. It will become compulsory for all dogs and... cats to be microchipped and also those born after July 1st to be de-sexed. Microchipping is a safe and permanent way to identify your companion and help ensure their return if they become lost. The procedure is quick, with no ongoing discomfort but must be carried out by a trained and authorized implanter. To help owners with these new laws we are reducing the cost of microchipping to $30. This can be done as a standalone procedure or with another visit such as vaccinations or health checks. Certificates are provided for council registration purposes. Call us on 8346 9666 to arrange an appointment for microchipping or to discuss any further questions. If your pet is currently microchipped, feel welcome to come in anytime during opening hours for a free scan to verify the microchips details and ensure they are functioning.

05.01.2022 Police Dog Koda, who many members of the public will remember was stabbed while on duty in 2013, has passed away. Koda retired in 2014, taking a well-earned br...eak as a family pet rather than a working dog. The officer in charge of the SA Police Dog Operations Unit, Senior Sergeant Kurt Newcombe, said the community had always remained interested in Kodas welfare following the attack, and that it was with sadness that he shared the news of his passing. The 11-year-old German Shepherd had been ill for some time, with what was believed to be a tumour totally unrelated to the stabbing, and unfortunately took a turn for the worse last week, dying on Friday. PD Koda was an excellent working dog and was, sadly, a celebrity for all the wrong reasons, given the stabbing in 2013, he said. During his career Koda was deployed more than 638 times and was responsible for 116 arrests and clearing 235 offences. Koda will be sorely missed by his handler and family. See more

04.01.2022 Happy Year of the Dog! This pup can't contain his excitement
03.01.2022 Codie is a young Kelpie who recently boarded with the amazing team at Hedgegrove Boarding Kennels & Cattery When he first arrived, Codie presented several conce...rning behaviours that included lunging, snapping and growling at his carers which made it difficult and unsafe for them to care for him properly. Our trainer Sam took him on as a side project to show how 'counter conditioning' can help in these circumstances. Sam quickly built a report with Codie which in turn saw him settle, decrease his unwanted behaviours and began to enjoy his surroundings. Today Mr. Codie was reunited with his family and it was heart warming to see the kennel attendants able to bring him out, for Codie to be wagging his tail and of course excited to see his guardian. The CC Crew are big advocates for more understanding, education and experience of behaviour and training in other areas of the animal industry. We LOVE working alongside the awesome team at Hedgegrove Kennels & Cattery as they are always keen to learn how to better their skills, spot areas to improve and are never afraid to step up to the plate to go beyond the call of duty. Boarding kennels are mistakenly put under a shadow as a place that animals with behavour issues should not go, however we find this to be the complete opposite. The right boarding kennel can be and are an amazing place to assist behaviour with the right staff and guidance from professionals. We hope to see Codie again in the future and continue helping him flourish in confidence and we relish the opportunity to continue working alongside other animal professionals and move animal care forward. Well done Samantha & The Hedgegrove Team! #animaladvocates #changlinglives
