12.01.2022 STOP GIVING UP! Athletes are often generally unaware that they are teaching themselves how to give up in day to day training. Of course, because of that, we fai...l to see the ways in which we give up in races. Giving up is a habit, dont make it an addiction. Because if you do, it will become a crutch that you will always lean on, and it will rob you blind of your talent. Doubt is a form of giving up that is like a parasite. It eats away at your potential, quietly in the dark, destabilising your structure. It keeps eating until your structure collapses under the weight, and you cant figure out what happened, because its happening in the dark place that we refer to as the unconscious mind. The unconscious is storing all of these doubtful thoughts that you keep feeding yourself, and the parasite is feeding off it. Im not just talking about the act of giving up completely. We learn how to give up incrementally through doubts, in small pieces, and even if we give up in tiny moments of frustration, there is a latent opportunity here that we are not looking at. We drag the threads of our lives behind us like a ball and chain, that thing someone said, that situation that is driving us crazy, all the pent up frustration and emotion that doesnt get a release. It has to come out somewhere. So a little transmutive training advice, for the purpose of clarity and session quality. See if you can bring a little mantra of letting go of everything outside of training in this moment for the session. Doubts, fears, frustrations, relationships, jobs, kids, the whole nine yards. Just commit before the session to let it all go. As you are getting ready for the session, breathe deeply through the stomach, in through the nose and out the mouth. As you breathe in, imagine that you are breathing in charged awareness and focus, and as you breath out, imagine you are breathing out black smoke. In that black smoke, imagine all the negativity, frustration, doubts and fears, all leaving your body, breath them out into the sky and let it all go. Make this a practise and the result will shock you. Can you challenge yourself to be empty of the junk that clouds your horizon? This way you are not only bringing the session into sharp focused awareness, but also in that act you are valuing the session and its position in the preparation. This is critically important, because once again a race is the sum it's parts in training. No value in training, and there will be no value in the race. Giving up is just too easy when there is no value. Another added bonus here, is that you are taking back your own power to take charge and change the direction of your own journey, simply through taking the decision to be an empty vessel in training. There is literally no such thing as a wasted session. To say that is a judgment and an act of giving up. So I'm not talking about continuing when you are sick, injured or completely gone, Im talking about the act of giving up. Its a choice we make based on conditioning. We give up in so many ways, that we are unconscious of when we do it, and how we do it. Im asking you to find out how you do it, for your own sake, and for the benefit of your own performance levels. Every session is an opportunity to improve, and if that means you can't reach the zenith of what was planned for the session, you can still focus on improving form in that session. Moreover, you are not giving up or quitting by taking the view that the session is not enough, or that you are not enough as you are now. This is pretty simple stuff. Just show up. Be real, give the stories a break. Because I'm telling you 100%, you are what you practice. The best thing you can do for yourself is to find out the ways in which you hide and sabotage yourself. That doesn't mean I'm calling you out. This is the human condition and one of the most profound ways in which we limit our possibility. We are so much more than this. I want to challenge your state of consciousness, and to make sure that it awakens from the slumber of being a human doing in this world and all the shit we have to deal with. Training is no place to drag unprocessed daily junk. Gilesy.
