23.01.2022 At long last we are finally digging up the verge! We have decided to take out the lawn and put in a waterwise native garden. We have ordered a skip to take away roughly 2 cubic meters of excess soil. This will provide a more level surface which will prevent runoff and will also allow us to add a soil improver as well as mulch.

23.01.2022 Look at this great specimen that we found in one of our gardens today! Gerberas are actually quite easy to grow, as long as they have full sun, free draining soil and regular watering (early in the day) through summer.

22.01.2022 Cleared this overgrown Lantana bush from our clients driveway so that she could have access to her garage.

22.01.2022 When it comes to gardening there is nothing more satisfying than dealing with a weed invasion!

21.01.2022 Our new website has just been published!

20.01.2022 We have just had a wonderfully busy month in the gardens of Perth! Lots of reticulation installations and mulching, so let's hope that we have saved a few gardens from our toasty summer weather! (Agave Attenuata from our last reticulation installation)

20.01.2022 Whoo-hoo the rains have finally arrived!!! "The Bureau of Meteorology forecast for Perth is: Cloudy. Isolated showers, increasing to rain in the late afternoon with isolated thunderstorms, gusty winds and heavy falls possible. Winds north to northwesterly 20 to 30km/h tending west to northwesterly in the evening.’’ A strong cold front and associated rain band will cross the west coast Wednesday evening, moving across the state during Thursday, producing a period of heavy rain and gusty winds.

18.01.2022 A waterwise garden makeover that we put in for a wonderful client last month! Using mostly Australian native plants as well as a good selection of succulents it all came together really well.

18.01.2022 It's that time of year for cleaning out your gutters. Very glad that we got this job done before the rains came!

18.01.2022 The verge is now lawn free and the excess soil has been removed. Now to dig in the compost and add a section of retaining to keep the mulch in place.

17.01.2022 From knee high grass to a lovely lawn. Always best to have your lawn mowed more regularly if you want to keep it healthy!

16.01.2022 Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year from all of us at UrbanEco!

16.01.2022 Painted up some old wheelbarrows in bright colours for a client that is visually impaired. It was wonderful as she could actually see them once they were done!

15.01.2022 It's time to start weeding again! So if it's not your thing or you don't have the time, give us a call as we LOVE weeding!! Here are some before and after pics of one of our jobs:

14.01.2022 Merry Christmas Everyone!

13.01.2022 It's that time of year again! Give us a call to have your gutters cleaned and ready for all that winter rain! Also a good time to trim back anything that does not belong.

12.01.2022 We have been too busy for facebook, so our apologies for the lack of updates over the last few months! Here is one of our most recent water wise garden plantings that we completed for a client in Palmyra. We went with the drought tolerant Gazania 'African Daisy' and a good bed of jungle mulch. Gazanias' are easy to grow, flower almost all year round and form a thick carpet that will keep the weeds out.

11.01.2022 Came away with a great selection of plants from Blooming Nursery in Jandabup. Excellent customer service and a really good selection of healthy plants!

11.01.2022 A wonderful start to our day working in a garden in Carmel.

10.01.2022 Tried and tested and works well on aphids taking over your garden.

10.01.2022 Here are some before and after photo's of last weeks garden clean up in Crawley. The site is dominated by 4 large gum trees and the undergrowth consisted of a good size, healthy Japanese Pepper Tree, a few Geraldton Wax's that had lost their will to live, a good selection of half buried Lomandra's, an Aloe and a trailer load of leaf matter. After a good morning with the chainsaw and a few trips with the trailer we had it all cleaned out. Looking forward to planting out this garden with some appropriate plants that will tolerate sharing their space with these lovely big gum trees!

09.01.2022 Good Morning Sunshine...

09.01.2022 Just picked up these beauties from Landsdale Plants! Strelitzia Reginae (Bird of Paradise) - indigenous to South Africa and a very popular choice in our gardens here in Perth!

06.01.2022 Cabbage Looper (Trichoplusia ni) making a meal of this Geranium! To save your plants you thankfully have a few options. If you have veggies your best option is using a barrier method like netting that will stop the moths from getting to the leaves to lay their eggs. Another option (if you have the time) is hand picking the caterpillars off the leaves. You can also mix up a garlic & chilli spray which is very effective and works quickly. If you don't have the time for any of those options there is always good old Dipel, which you can pick up from your local Bunnings!

06.01.2022 Happy Easter! What a wonderful morning we had here in Perth for an Easter egg hunt. For those of you who lost kids in their overgrown gardens, give us a call and we will make sure that it's only Easter eggs you are hunting for next year!

05.01.2022 We have had a very busy year so there has been little time for updates. We have had some really great garden clean ups and landscaping jobs in the last few months. I thought I would share a recent garden clean up and landscaping job that we carried out at the Mount Medical Centre:

04.01.2022 Came up with this idea after spending many hours gardening with elderly people. A lot of them could no longer have a veggie garden as they could not bend over due to back, hip and knee problems. This solution is waist high and you have access from all sides. It's made from treated pine so can tolerate the moisture. The base is made from mesh which allows for sufficient drainage. The inside was lined with plastic before filling with vermiculite and a good veggie soil mix.

04.01.2022 After having the most incredible start to the year we have finally found some time to pull ourselves away from our gardening and spend some time in the office! We will be sure to share some highlights over the next few weeks. Here are a few pics from this week's garden cleanup in Cannington:

04.01.2022 This past year has seen many a visit to properties around Perth where trees have been the cause of damage to walls and driveways. So it's worthwhile researching the species before planting as you may end up with a costly problem a few years down the line. If you suspect your tree's or large shrubs are causing problems, give us a call and we will come out and advise on your best way forward. We are licensed to lop trees up to 3m and can have a qualified arborist contact you for anything larger.

03.01.2022 After a few visits we almost have this garden back in shape. There's nothing better than a garden that provides a challenge which leaves you feeling like you have made a difference!

02.01.2022 Here are two small Peppermint Trees which were cut down and these photos show us digging out the root balls. The root system is quite invasive and as you can see from the first picture, it was not a good choice of tree to grow up against a wall.

01.01.2022 Inchworm that I found in my garden...
